Should programs such as dotakeys be allowed?

You better check YOURSELF before you speak, because you can change all the spells hotkeys in customkey.txt as long as they are spells that already exist in warcraft 3 FT wich is a fair number already.

And this point isn't even of interest, your whole reasonning is about ARBITRARY difficulty and thus is wrong. I proved it in many point, yet you answered NONE of them except that customkeys.txt thing about wich nobodies gives a shit.

Get real : hitting "alt" every fraction of second like a monkey on cocaïn, or learning by heart every stupid hotkey for every hero and positionning your hand and fingers in a different weird position for each and every single hero (wich, btw, IS GONNA get you carpal tunel syndrom, and this is the expertise of a doctor, you're not a doctor are you ? ...) is NOT skills.

A skill is something that decide the outcome of the game. And this do not.

Now if I want to take the liberty to bind the keys for my items to some keys that are closer to my finger and play, this is NONE of your business. Here or in a tournament or ANYWHERE I LIKE. And if you think it's a hack, then I'm sorry for you, but you are utterly wrong, and it must be sad for you. Because last time I check a Hack is a software that either :

1) Providing you with strategical information about the ennemy that they don't have about you.

2) Automate for you multiple simultaneous actions that would not be possible under normal condition, like for exemple the "Macro" commands that allows you to hit multiple keys at the same time.

Beside this :

Moving the key for my items to a position on the keyboard that is closer anatomicaly to my FINGERS is something that I and many others will ALWAYS DO (even at tournament, sanctionned by peoples that knows BETTER THAN YOU) whether guys like you, that claims useless "skills", like it or not. Get this deep thru your head.

there is absolutely NO skill in being able to press t,d,g,7,8,t,d,g,7 clicking on the hero after each interval.
just REALLY LONG FINGERS.
if you were to remap there is just as muck skill in press... q,w,r,alt+q,alt+w,q,w,r,alt+q

(btw that was the amazing lina combo with a dagon and refresher)

and there is NO SKILL AT ALL in holding down the alt for healthbars, it is easier just to press ` at the start of the game and have them sitting there so you don't get a RSI.

Hmm, you defeinitely can get carpel tunel or at least other physically debilitating (SP?) hand problems from playing lots of computer games.... but its probably just as bad no matter where the hotkeys are lol.

I think, like most other people, and like the RULES SAY, that there is nothing wrong with these programs.

I use warkeys, and autowarkeys. The way the warkeys changes spell hotkeys is by simply generating the correctly written and programed customkey.txt, while only requiring the ability to point and click a friendly user interface.
So I guess those people who choose to write their own customkey.txt instead of use warkeys have proven superior programming and computer language skills than the rest of us. But really, when was the last time you heard someone argue they were better at Dota, or warcraft just because they know C++?

The lifebars thing also should not be compared to anything like maphack. Displaying life bars is a part of the game, every one can do it with the alt-key, it just flickers, and requires lots of clicking. So having these always showing is not ADDING anything to the game play. Maphack reveals the whole map, at all points in time, there is no way to actually do that at all, for any period of time in normal gameplay, thats why maphack is illegal.

Finally unlike hacks, which are often distributed on seedy sites, with filth included, and you run the potential risk of getting viruses and worse from trying to download them, warkeys is openly sold where it is safe, and FREE to use. If you have the internet (which you must to play battlenet, and complain about this in the first place) you can also get warkeys and autokeys. So I say, if you don't use them and I beat you... It is because I AM MORE SKILLED AT WEB BROWSING AND DOWNLOADING. :P [those caps weren't angry or flaming, just wanted emphasis.]

so yea, these programs don't ADD anything EXTRA to the game, nor is there limited distribution, nor risky distribution, nor costs, so I don't see what the problem is.

It's pretty much useless in my opinion. Since I've long gotten used to the keyboard, numberpad and mouse. but yea, dotakeys is like a wheelchair for the uhh physically disabled. Otherwise, I dont see why it should be illegal at all.

Carpal tunel syndrom is the N°1 Illness of Pro Gamers. You don't trust me ? Google is your friend : search for interviews of Starcraft Professional money players, as well as any Pro gamer at large, even Fatal1ty (from Quake, for those who know) is officialy complaining about having to take surgery for his hand now (even if he stopped playing at WCG and CPL for like 4 Years now ...)

But to know that you have to be informed about many things, including the anatomy of the hand, phalanx, the "flexor digitorum" muscle and the peripheral wrist nerve, all those things that you actually stress VERY MUCH while playing Dota or any game wich use a keyboard and mouse, especially if you have to keep your fingers in particularly fixed positions for a long time (wich in case you don't realise, is exactly what you do when you play, and even more with badly spaced hotkeys).

Now I'm sure many smartasses here will think "what the hell the guy talk about ? I'm gonna get hands problem by playing dota ?! ROFLMAO LOLOLOLO !!!!1!!ONE!"

well let me give you some statistics you have when it's actually your job to work in a hospital :

Before our time, regular people never had carpal tunel syndrom, the only few that had it where people that used their hands for some meticulous manual work like tailors or pianists, for example, and even then, they use to have it at around 70 years old.

Today you have tons of Korean kids with CTS at age 16 wich is just a coincidence, right ? And hospitals are litteraly flooding with 30 years old guys who ask for a hand surgery and who, guess what, all work with computers.

Now if you tink i'm making this this up, good for you, but just use your brain a bit :

1) Last time i checked, google is still free, so a 10 mins search about this will let you seated on your ass with your mouth open at the extend of the issue CTS is today.

2) I don't really see what I would have to win by talking about this here, in fact I might even lose something precious : my Time. Me, I'm just stating what I know, studied, and see in the hospital I work in. People think it's not true, good for them. We need people like them to get Hospitals working, and me paid.

Now keep talking about things you know nothing about, and have a good night.

unless you are really really pathetic you will NOT get CTS from playing computer games.
sure if you are one of your "Pro Gamers" playing DotA/Unreal Tournament/Counter Strike 12 hours a day, you will get it, but if you play that often you probably deserve it.
And yes if you work with computers (as a day job not video games) you could develop it but OHS has implemented guidelines to minimise the risk.

anyways while I professionalise in infectious diseases, I do have knowledge of human anatomy as well for part of my studies and I believe that you making a broad generalisation of the public is a very very stupid thing to do.

oh and google isn't necessarily free.
Google how much it costs to use google?
A 10 minute search is all it takes.

Oh yeah, my retort. I will prolly install dotakeys someday maybe only because my laptop doesn't have a numpad which makes playing atropos a pain. I refuse to use the QWER keys because 1. I already memorized the hotkeys 2. using the same keys over and over again is boring.

Want this thread re-opened, PM me with a GOOD reason.

PS. CFX was banned and made to a VIP all in the same day.
