You can not target friendly units with this spell?
Posted: Fri May 09, 2008 7:30 pmI think they should get rid of the inability to target friendly units regardless of the spell. In all reality why would you be unable to target anything you want with any spell you want??
There are plenty of situations where targeting a friendly hero could be in the best interests of the team. For example:
DENY
1. You are Zues and your friend is about to die to Stealth Assassin. You want to deny him but your attack does like 50 damage and he has 100 hp. You have plenty of mana but you cant target him with Lightning Bolt.
KILL
2. You are Medusa(Full HP). You and your teammate, Centaur(Full HP), are chasing Lycanthrope (100 HP). Lycant is outside your casting range for Chain Lightning and the distance between Centaur and Lycanthrope is growing. If you could cast Chain Lightning on Centaur the next jump would catch Lycanthrope and kill him.
SURVIVE
3. You are Pugna(30 HP). You just fled from battle successfully but there is a Zues on the enemy team and you know he is going to ult any second. Centaur is on your team with full HP standing next to you. If you could life drain him for a few seconds you would live. (Also could do it to a creep if friendly units were target able)
PREVENT
4. You are Skeleton King soloing Rosh. Your teammate Magina Blinks in to try to get the last hit on Rosh for the gold and probably steal your Aegis. You would like to Hellfire Blast Magina to prevent the steal but you cant.
It really just makes sense that you be able to cast these spells (and others) on your friendly heroes because that is the nature of the game. What are your thoughts?

Dont play with noobs then.
I understand your concern about the game play and have thoughts along the same line. But noobs ruin the game as is and can attack you if they want when you are low on hp... right? The question is whether or not a hero "could" or "should" be able to cast his spells on who ever he wants.

i agree with CF[X]
it's like if Leshrac on your team can hurt his own allies with AoE moves. Unless you're talking about just targetting spells. But with the whole Chain Lightning thing, this could happen:
You use Chain Lightning on Centaur to hit the running Banehallow but when you cast Chain on Centaur it bounces back to you and all the allies near you instead and kills one of your allies who would've lived even though he had 30 hp.
OR
Ally Lich casts Chain Frost and your whole team dies instead

No. You are missing my point. Area affect spells should be designed to hurt enemies not friendly because you can not decided which one to effect or not to, that goes also with chain lightning and all the others you listed. The only spells I’m talking about are those where you select which hero with a click (i.e. the first blast of chain lightning [secondary blasts only hitting enemy units])
You are right about those other spells and how you would not want them to affect your allies and I agree with you. That is not the point of this thread. However, thank you for you input.
P.S. I cant respond instantly, Im at work.
P.S.S I am going to make a list on monday of the spells Im talking about and the ones Im not and why there should be a diference.

if we where to able to target our team mates we would allways have eachother being killed constantly.
like a team killer such as naix at the fountain could atatck hs own team mates a while ago.
every time you played a game someboyd would pick naix and kill his whole team for fun.. then ruin the game.

He's talking about spells only NOT attacks. I think it's a good idea but it'll require a lot more triggers and there could be a lot of bugs resulting from it. There's also the possibility that you mean to stun an enemy and you misclick on an ally. This would suck if you landed a multicast with Ogre.
