The Defense Of The Ancients
Posted: Thu Oct 02, 2008 10:51 amHey dudes!
This is my first attempt at a fan fic and i need brutal honesty. No seriously im a big boy i can take it.
I thought instead of using dota characters in different scenarios, why not write a story about a good old 5 vs 5 dota match!? Well here is what i have so far, so please give me comments, whether u think its worth carrying on etc... thanks.
Sentinel Chapter 1
They awoke from an animated slumber, which felt not like sleep, but more like hibernation.
They shook their heads and wiped their eyes, surveying their surroundings. There was a fountain similar to ones found in the Night Elf forest of Rivendell. It was said to replenish all health, heal all wounds, and renew all spellcasting abilities. The Fountain of Health.
As they stood and tried to grasp where they were, a telepathic voice spoke to them.
“Friends and allies, you have been chosen as an extension of my hand, to protect our most valued asset, The World Tree. You will defend the life of the Ancient with every ounce of strength you can muster.”
From the tone of the voice they recognized it as Zeus, the Lord of Olympia. The highest general in Furion’s army.
They looked at each other and slowly recognized the faces around them. 5 in all.
Puck, the Faerie Dragon. Kardel Sharpeye, the Dwarven Sniper. Yurnero, the Juggernaught. Rooftrellen, the Treant Protector. Chen, the Holy Knight.
“You have been chosen to defend our ancient against the Scourge. They have rallied 5 warriors to attack and kill our life giving tree, but we shall not only defend. I have a more important mission for you all. The Frozen Throne lies Northeast of this position, it is your goal to destroy it. The Frozen Throne is to the Scourge what the World Tree is to us, so you can imagine the significance of its destruction.”
“There are three clear paths that have been bolstered with 3 Spirit Towers each and they send ghouls, necromancers and meat wagons as infantry, and the supply of these creeps is endless. Fear not for we have matched their Spirit Towers with Treants, and our creeps shall match theirs in endless supply. This forest is home to many creatures, neither friend nor foe, if you come across them they will attack you so defend yourselves, and their deaths shall yield unto you gold and fighting experience. Weapons and other items are hidden in the forest as well and we have managed to collect some for purchase here at the Fountain. We cannot give them to you as these items belong to the goblins of the forest, and they shall not yield their keep without reimbursement. All things you kill yield gold, so make sure to lad as many finishing blows as possible and your battle prowess, and indeed your gold, will increase faster than that of your enemies. As to the identity of these 5 chosen by the Scourge, they are unknown but their power shall be great, of that we can be certain.”
“There is one more being I must tell you of. The most ancient of all the Ancients, the defender of none but his grotto, the behemoth of granite who fears and serves none. His name is Roshan and he lurks in these woods. If you are able to find him, make sure you are of adequate strength to fell this beast, as his death shall yield a bounty only told of in the sung tales of the Bards, said to give the power of resurrection to those that carry it. That is all. All power upon you and thank you for taking up this burden. You are all heroes.”
With that, the voice was gone. No fear ran through these soldiers, as they all felt as though they had been in this same situation before. With all the information that Zeus gave them, they quickly bought what items they could afford with the paltry gold they found on their persons, and started to spread out into the forest…
Scourge Chapter 1
In much the same way as the Sentinel heroes were briefed by Zeus, the Scourge heroes had been briefed by Kel’Thuzad himself.
The heroes, hand picked by the Lich himself, were readying themselves.
They were Atropos, the Bane Elemental. Azgalor, the Pit Lord. Ish’kafel, the Dark Seer. Magnus, the Magnataur. And Mogul Khan, the Axe.
All were feared and revered in the ranks of the Scourge, and for good reason.
They too had bought sustenance and power from the shops supplied to them, and they began to form a strategy.
“Magnus, you will lead a charge down the top path, Atropos will go with you.” announced Mogul Khan. “Azgalor, you and Ish’kafel take the bottom path, and I will attack the middle path alone, my powers are sufficient.” They all nodded in agreement and set out.
As they took their posts at the 3 towers leading to their lanes, a great horn sounded, and they set out, into battle.
EDIT: spacing paragraphs out as per Albatross[x]'s suggestion.

Sentinel Chapter 2
“The great horn sounds” muttered Chen. “The battle is about to begin! To your lanes!”
Chen and Yurnero were to take the bottom lane. Puck and Kardel were to manage the top, and mighty Rooftrellen was assigned to the center. His strength and his telepathic connection to the trees would be sufficient for him to hold all foes back.
Yet they still knew not who they were facing…
As the first creeps were spawned, they set out to see which heroes the Scourge had chosen.
Chen and Yurnero neared their final tower, and as the creeps clashed they saw their foe. It was Azgalor and Ish’kafel. Both were well known to the sentinel heroes, and before Chen could speak, a great wave of fiery boulders came crashing down upon them.
They retreated and stood next to the treant as their creeps were overcome by the attacks of the ghouls, and the fire called down by Azgalor. “This is to our advantage” said Chen. “If they come in range of our tower they will be attacked and we shall be well protected! Yurnero! Only attack enemy creeps that are about to die!” commanded Chen.
The wave reached them, and the tower hurled boulders in defence, obliterating the ghouls where they stood. This time when they pushed up behind their creeps, Yurnero let out a cry of pain as he was sucked toward the wave with great force, Ish’kafel stood a few meters away and with a burning shield around him he gave chase as Yurnero turned back to Chen. Chen quickly cast a spell that causes the body and mind to be slowed, and therefore take more damage from even the most rudimentary of attacks. Ish’kafel foolishly gave chase as Yurnero was suffering grievous wounds, and as Ish’kafel realized his mistake, Chen slowed him again, amplifying the damage being taken to him by the massive boulders and Chen’s own attacks. Sensing Ish’kafel was near death, Chen gave chase to cast his killing spell. As he started the incantation he found himself stuck fast by a vile vine from the ground! He realized that he was in Azgalor’s Pit of Malice, and he knew what would be coming next. And he was not wrong. The fiery boulders pounded down once again, hurting him while he could not move, until finally he was free and he retreated, wounded, back to the treant where he found Yurnero. He had partially recharged his health by eating an Ancient Tango of Essification. A very common item in these lands, and very handy at that. He too consumed one, and they turned to face their foes, renewed.
“This shall be epic” stated Yurnero with a half mad smile on his face…
Scourge Chapter 2
As Atropos travelled along his lane with Magnus at his side, he was apprehensive as to who the Sentinel had sent in defense against their attack. They arrived at the tower and were greeted by none other than Puck, the Faerie Dragon and Kardel Sharpeye. He knew he was relatively safe as he could attack from a distance, but Magnus had to get in close to attack, so he knew he would be open to harassment from the magics of the dragon and the accurate rifelry of the Sniper. But it mattered not. Magnus had a great tolerance to attacks, and could withstand much punishment.
Their creeps met, just out of range of the spirit tower. Immediately Puck sent a glowing orb straight to the heart of the creep wave, and it carried on its path, mildly injuring Magnus and himself.
“Ah yes, the Illusory orb…” thought Atropos. “Your magic is strong but your bravado shall be your folley!” And he set a sleeping spell on Puck, who could not be attacked as the spell would transfer to his attacker. But the sentinel wave had been wiped out by a blast of energy from Magnus, and as Puck writhed in his nightmare-filled slumber, the wave pushed past him and Magnus waited to greet him as he awoke.
As Puck awoke Magnus unleashed another wave of energy, damaging Puck, and Atropos set a curse upon him that rendered his attacks useless. As he ran back toward his ally, Magnus attacked with an imbued strength, indicated by a red glow around his hands. Puck seemed certain to die, when he cast an illusory orb in the opposite direction. Before he could speculate, Puck disappeared before their eyes! Still shocked at such trickery, he saw that Magnus’ chase had left him in a bad position, as the Sniper was peppering him with shots, a few of which, aimed at Magnus’s head, looked to injure him badly and stun him slightly. But as was said earlier, Magnus could withstand large amounts of damage, and he found the safety of the spirit tower where he drank a potion of sapphire water, completely healing his wounds.
Atropos was hatching a plan to use the denizens of the forest as allies, with or without their will.
He disappeared into the forest and found a camp of Satyrs. He let out but one attack, and the Satyrs, angered at this insolence, gave chase. But Atropos did not head for his tower, instead he exited the forest behind where Kardel and the still weak Puck were fighting his creep wave, with Magnus standing behind, killing any weak creeps.
As Atropos exited he stole a certain amount of Puck’s remaining life, and it added onto his own, a sinister spell. Magnus saw this signal and as Puck was retreating, almost dead, he unleashed yet another energy wave, and watched with glee as Puck fell from the sky, mortally wounded. Atropos smiled as he let fly with one final attack, and the Faerie Dragon perished. With the Satyrs still on his back he had no choice but to run back past the Sniper and all his creeps, and he soon realized that he had made a bad decision. Although First Blood in the battle belonged to him, his greed had led him into a dire situation. The Sniper took aim and fired shot after shot at Atropos, who desperately consumed a Tango to see him safely to his tower.
All of a sudden the fire stopped, and Atropos slowed, thinking he was clear, when all of a sudden a scattering of shrapnel exploded all around him, injuring him to within an inch if his life! If it had not been for the tango he would surely have perished. Before he could rejoice with Magnus he saw out of the corner of his eye, a familiar looking orb. Before he could react Puck was upon him, and he found himself unable to cast spells! Magnus rallied to help him but alas it was too late, one last attack from Puck saw to Atropos, an unexpected revenge!
Atropos knew he should not have let his guard down, as loss of life in this arena is but temporary.
“Puck must have teleported back in and hidden in the bushes in wait” thought Atropos as he awaited his return to the world of the Ancients, where he would battle once more.
The Sentinel Chapter 3
Rooftrellen, alone in his thoughts and in his battle, sat silently, concealed by the trees as he watched his adversary, Axe, lay waste to all his creeps.
This foe had a devastating counter to melee attackers, an attack that, when triggered, spun Axe viciously around causing great damage to all around him. It was for this reason that Rooftrellen kept hidden. Only straying out of hiding to kill creeps.
This had been going on for a while, and because Axe decimated his creeps so easily, he was constantly fighting at the treant protector. Rooftrellen was getting many creep kills and was growing in strength, until he felt like he could unleash his ultimate attack. He called it Overgrowth…
Rooftrellen planned his attack. He saw that Axe was slightly weakened as his arrogance constantly kept him on the front line of the battle, and although he was hardy, he was not invincible…
He let Axe push a creep wave over and then as he started attacking the tower, Rooftrellen emerged from invisibility behind Axe, and attacked him. To his surprise, Axe did not try to run, as his creeps were with him and the tower was focusing on them. Axe was strong and even though he was weakened, Rooftrellen soon found himself on equal strength. He anticipated this, and once they had both weakened a bit more, he cast a Living Armor on himself. Vines, roots, bark, and leaves swarmed from the forest and surrounded him, regenerating him and protecting him. Axe started to run, and Rooftrellen took the opportunity. He spoke to the earth and directed its wrath upon Axe, and stout thorny roots sprouted out from the ground, engulfing Axe.
Axe let out a shout of anger and pain as he was held fast and severely injured by this spell. “Underestimate a treant at your own peril, fool!” Shouted Rooftrellen as he hammered at Axe with his fists. His vines had overtaken the creeps as well and they quickly perished, leaving only Axe in sight of the tower. Boulders smashed into Axe who was fading fast, although he was doing damage as he was now getting attacked from all sides, and his Counter Helix was triggering more and more often. Rooftrellen felt his confidence fade and his life seeped away very fast.
“How can this be! He should be dead already!” But he had underestimated Axe. It appeared that this orc’s arrogance was not unfounded.
“Bah!” Exclaimed Rooftrellen as he turned to avoid further damage. But to his surprise the Axe gave chase! He was about to meld with the trees once more when all of a sudden Axe let out a cry so fierce it gave him pause, and he found himself turning to face him completely against his will! Axe smiled as he felt Rooftrellen’s life drain enough to release his OWN ultimate attack, a killing blow honed on dinosaurs and dragons over the years. Axe let loose and Rooftrellen’s world went black, but he managed to convey a link to a nearby tree which allowed him sight at all times.
As he felt his spirit sucked back toward his fountain, his eyes spied the area just long enough to see the tree, outraged at the destruction of his kin, hurl one final boulder at Axe, and it smashed into his retreating back, painfully breaking his spine and killing him instantly. A silent cheer went up between Rooftrellen and his companions of the forest, who had avenged him and in so doing, saved themselves from the onslaught of the Axe. For a while at least…

New chapters up:
The Scourge Chapter 3
Azgalor was impressed by the quickness of his adversary, Chen. He had almost dispatched Ish’kafel in an instant, and would have succeeded if not for his own intervention. Now with Ish’kafel healing behind him, having consumed a tango. He prepared his onslaught as he knew Yurnero was also hanging back. He set his sights on Chen.
He had felt the deaths of their leader, Axe, and Atropos. He sensed that although the mighty Rooftrellen was also slain, the Sentinel held a slight advantage… “Not for long” snickered Azgalor.
He conferred with Ish’kafel and as soon as their creep wave was cleared and out of sight of the treants massive boulders, they hatched a plan.
Ish’kafel went into the forest and when Chen and Yurnero came up behind their wave, Azgalor charged in, knowing he could weaken them well and Ish’kafel, his ultimate spell ready, would do the rest. He went in and let them get close, and laid down his triple circles. Chen and Yurnero turned to run from the onslaught, but Ish’kafel preempted them and summoned a huge wall of reverberating color. Chen and Yurnero had no choice but to pass through it, and when they did, they were cloned by the wall. The clones were of no help to them, as they were under Ish’kafel’s control.
As the two injured sentinel soldiers carried on running, Azgalor once again summoned hi Pit of Malice to hold them in check while Ish’kafel stayed close to them, his Ion Shell doing vast damage to the already frail heroes while the malicious clones beat them with their fists. When the Pit faded, he sent down another storm of fire onto them. Chen had slowed Ish’kafel just before they reached their tower, but Ish’kafel summoned up massive speed and set off on the chase as both heroes needed but a few more attacks to be killed.
All of a sudden, as Ish’kafel pulled clear of Azgalor, he remembered something, and called for Ish’kafel to turn back, but it was too late.
Weakened slightly by the tree he had passed but hungry with the possibility of a double kill, he sped up to his quarry. But then the damndest thing happened. Both turned to face him! “This is going to be too easy” he thought, but as he was upon them, a great beam of light shone down from the heavens and replenished both Chen and Yurnero. Ish’kafel turned to retreat into the forest but Chen once again slowed him…
As Ish’kafel reached the outskirts of the trees, his spell faded and his speed was back to normal, but Chens slow still dragged his feet. His mental will to move faster was hampered by his physical refusal to do so. He thought he had about had it until he saw the massive form of Azgalor running toward him! He was glad as he knew that Azgalor’s combo would surely finish them now.
But another spell they had forgotten about was about to be cast. Chen slowed and hen damaged Azgalor as he reached Ish’kafel, and in the blink of an eye the Juggernaught was airborne. He flew at them faster then their eyes could follow, and they felt rather than saw, his blade sink deep into their flesh, cutting deep and so fast it felt as if they were being attacked by an army of samurais. Azgalor looked to the very weak Ish’kafel and saw his last breath escape before he faded into death, almost relieved to be out of the storm of the Juggernaught’s Omnislash. Azgalor was near his death as well, and turned, and in so doing opened a dark rift between himself and his defiled fountain. Chen slowed him one more time and he saw the glow in their eyes as they just about reached him to land the mortal blow, when he vanished. His senses returned, his wounds rapidly healing, and his mana well replenishing. He had collected enough gold to buy boots of speed, an item that would increase his movement speed. He pulled them on. He bought two bracers and clamped them around his wrists, giving him greater boosts to his strength.
As he was about to return to the battle, Axe respawned and called to him.
“Azgalor, our direct attacks are too weak to work as yet. They are strong and now that we have failed early, they will be stronger than us unless we turn the tides quickly. I am going to scout the forest for more goblin shops, and I wish to scout the river as well. It could hold treasures unknown. Cover the center lane for me but beware, the Great Tree is no easy foe. I have found these in one of these shops. Set them down when the Tree disappears, he shall have no hiding from these.”
Axe handed the sentry wards to Azgalor, and before heading out to scout the unknown areas of the forest and river, equipped himself with a stout shield, and pulled on the same boots Azgalor had bought.
And with that he disappeared into the fog…
The Sentinel Chapter 4
Kardel sat, picking off creeps and feeling his gold and battle experience growing. He was ready to unleash his ultimate shot. A slug so huge and so perfectly aerodynamic, that it almost guaranteed a kill to a weakened foe.
Puck’s timely return had meant the end of the Bane Elemental, but he was back and looking for revenge. Kardel had no will to return to the base to empower himself with the goblin’s artifacts, but he knew he would have to bolster himself soon, as when Puck and Atropos returned, he had seen two Null Talismans hanging from their necks. These he knew would increase their attack damage and spell casting abilities, which was good for Puck but not for him. He knew the Bane Elemental to be a vicious foe.
Just out of the corner of his eye, he saw a scuttling movement in the trees on the outskirts of the lane. He instinctively followed, giving Puck the “brb” signal. As he cleared the first line of trees he saw to his amazement, a goblin workshop! He looked at their wares, and they seemed willing to sell to him. He had 2000 pieces of gold and the first item that caught his eye was a strange mask. The tag described it as “The Mask of Death” and it was reported to return life to the bearer according to how much damage he did. He purchased it, and also a golden Ring that instantly made him feel his healing potential increase.
He returned to the battle to find Puck struggling against both Atropos and Magnus. Magnus had not been back to spend his bounty and Puck’s spells were beginning to show signs of injury to the great beast, but yet he soldiered on. “He will be my first scalp this day” said Kardel to himself. He arrived alongside Puck and said a single word: “Magnus.” Puck needed no further explanation, and hurled his illusory orb toward the Magnataur. This alone hurt him, and Puck teleported behind him, to the orb before it dissipated, and cast a spell that silenced and damaged both foes. This would keep Atropos from interfering, and Kardel immediately scattered his explosive shrapnel on to the stricken heroes. Magnus turned and ran as he was near death, letting loose one more energy wave to try and discourage a chase, but alas, it was futile. As Puck turned his attacks to Atropos, Kardel dropped one of his massive slugs into his rifle. He took aim and caught sight of the Magnataur trying desperately to escape. As he put his eye to the scope, he couldn’t help but savor this moment, and a smirk parted his lips. With a deafening blast, he sent the deadly projectile straight at the fleeing Magnus, and Atropos turned just in time to see his lane-mate’s head explode and his lifeless body fall limply to the floor…
Puck saw the fear strike Atropos at the sight of such a strong ally getting shamelessly and mailiciously destroyed by the science of the sniper, and he too turned to run. But Puck had anticipated this and lay down his ultimate spell. A Dream Coil. This caused damage to Atropos and he was magically tethered to a glowing obelisk on the ground. The Dream Coil sent his mind into a dream like state and his terror was amplified, and he tried even harder to outrun his captor. This is the purpose of the coil, and as the bond between foe and obelisk strained and snapped, the recoil damaged and stunned Atropos in place.
“One more illusory orb and he’s mine” said Puck to Kardel, who left the kill for his friend. But they had chased past the tower, and they were both damaged by the spirit tower. As Puck was about to finish Atropos, Axe appeared out of thin air right next to them and let out a roar that forced their bodies to disobey their minds and attack him. Atropos saw that the focus had shifted from him and turned, muttering a spell, unleashing his devastating ultimate. Suddenly Puck froze in place, his life draining fast. In 3 seconds his body fell limp from the sky once again, perished.
Kardel, still drawn toward Axe like a moth to a flame, saw how quickly the tables had turned, and with no mana pool to support any of his spells, he fled. He drew clear of Axe, who held a shield that absorbed enormous amounts of damage, a Vanguard. But Axe muttered a spell of his own and Kardel felt a burning sensation enter his body.
Axe did not give chase, which startled the Sniper as the spell Axe cast on him seemed to do no damage. But then he felt his life incrementally burnt away. He did not know how to stop it, and the damage dispelled the healing affect of the sapphire flask he had consumed. Dying, his last thought drifted to what the Axe had found in the bowels of the forest to allow him to instantly appear out of thin air. With the sight of the almost dead Atropos fleeing home burnt into his eyes, Kardel drew his last breath…
The Scourge Chapter 4
Axe celebrated his victory and gave thanks to the forest, for he had found a goblin shop nestled just to the east of his second tower in the middle lane. With a stout shield already in his possession, he had completed an item, Vanguard, by buying a golden ring and a purple glowing orb that imbued him with greater health. The goblins fused all the pieces together and presented him with the Vanguard. Even as Axe wielded it he had no time to savor its power, Atropos and Magnus had been in trouble.
En route to help his allies, he stumbled upon a magical rune that had hidden him from all sight. “What luck! This must be an omen!” he declared as he passed unseen in between the forest’s inhabitants.
Now he stood, with the death of both lane foes fresh in his mind, calculating his next move.
He remembered sending Azgalor to face the tree. With confidence anew he headed for the middle lane, where Azgalor battled with the Tree, and Chen had joined him, leaving Yurnero alone in the bottom lane… an easy quarry, but it would have to wait until Azgalor was cleared.
He passed by the spot where the magical rune had been found, but there was none to take its place. “Bah! But no matter…” To his surprise, the Tree and Chen had managed to destroy their tower! And although Azgalor was keeping them clear as best he could with his spells, he would not be comfortable for much longer. He studied his foes from the forest, looking to see what they had found in the bounty of the forest. He saw that Chen had the same Null Talismans that Atropos had acquired, and he carried with him an Ultimate orb, as well as a Void Stone. His power was increasing, and the goblins were obviously looking to meld his items into one, much like Axe had. He could not let this happen, as he knew the power that a reformed goblin item could bestow upon its bearer.
He caught sight of the great Tree, and he carried a fiery orb, a Perseverance. And all heroes he had seen had worn the boots he wore. He waited for them to push to his side of the river and attacked.
Azgalor saw Axe looming up behind his foes, and went on the attack. He had been hanging back the whole time he was facing these heroes, and his new bravado caught them by surprise. They stalled, and as they did so, Axe was on them, letting loose an all too familiar roar, forcing them to attack him. Chen cast a spell which damaged Axe, and another which slowed him and almost nullified the effects of the Vanguard he carried. But Azgalor was quickly upon them, casting only his Pit of Malice, as his mana pool had run low. Rooftrellen seemed unsettlingly calm throughout the barrage, and Azgalor doubted himself. Rooftrellen pushed forward and this caused Azgalor to run, as he intended. Seeing this, Chen healed them with his ultimate once again, and Rooftrellen once again called upon the earth itself, with only Axe as its target. The roots and tendrils bit deep into Axes flesh, as attacks rained from the Tree and Chen dealing huge magical damage to him. He had overestimated the Vanguard and he roared to the fleeing Azgalor “COWAAARD!!!! YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS TREACHERY!” and knowing he had no chance to flee, he turned, faced his adversaries, and went down swinging…
Azgalor saw his leader die and felt shame and fear, remembering the promise from Axe. “I must make amends to avoid his wrath” he thought. He set his sights for the secret goblin shop Axe had found, and once there, bought a Sacred Relic, bolstering his physical damage immensely.
He had seen the Sniper and the Faerie Dragon fighting against the respawned Atropos and Magnataur. Their forced trip back to base had allowed them to strengthen themselves and they were holding their own. The Tree had disappeared, presumably back to heal.
He spied the solitary figure of the Juggernaught defending his tower against an army of creeps, and set off to make Axe proud of him after such a foolish ploy…

Hey guys. Im finding it a bit hard to avoid reusing the same scenarios so im pushing for the end, otherwise you might lose interest. I have this so far and the last bit will be up today.
The Sentinel Chapter 5
Yurnero knew he would not be needed in the clash happening to the North, as he knew the capabilities of his leader, Chen, and the vastly powerful Rooftrellen. As he cleared wave after wave of creeps, protecting his tower, his energies grew and he yearned to attack faster, more powerfully. He was contemplating the available items he had seen at his base, trying to decide which one would be of the most help, but before he could think much further he was struck by a fiery boulder, and another. He knew this to be the Pit Lord’s work, but he could not see him. He lay down a powerful ward that renewed his health, and followed him wherever he went. He stood fiercely by his tower, facing the oncoming creep wave, but caught no sight of the Pit Lord. As he waited, the danger seemed to have averted, but he knew better.
With his allies all preoccupied, and with two enemies nowhere to be seen, he headed toward the middle lane. He felt as though there was something watching, waiting, and being alone was a welcome mat for an ambush. As he set off, with thoughts of an item out of his mind for the time being, he suddenly caught sight of something move like a flash behind him. He turned a bit too late to see Ish’kafel charging at him at the speed of light, the now well known Ion Shell around him. He plowed headfirst into Yurnero, knocking him off his feet and burning his skin severely. The Dark Seer made sure to stay close so his shield kept burning Yurnero, who luckily still had his healing ward trailing behind him. “Come orc, face me!” yelled Ish’kafel. Yurnero was on his feet quickly, and he knew if he could unleash his Omnislash once again, the tide would turn. But he was not ready yet, as he could cast the spell only after a certain amount of time had passed.
He would have to stall and survive until he could fight back. As he stood facing the purple monster, his healing ward expired. Ish’kafel was smiling a wry smile, a cocky smile. He too had in his possession a Sacred Relic from the Goblin shop…
“His damage is too high right now, I cannot do this alone.” He sent a signal to his allies, telling them of his location, and turned to run. Ish’kafel gave chase and as he turned a corner, he ran straight into the towering hulk of the Pit Lord! He got to his feet but before he could run he was trapped in the vile pit of the Pit Lord, but no fire came down from the sky. He saw that Azgalor was slightly weakened, and his mana pool was low, and he realized he had been wounded while fighting the creatures of the forest. If he could just hold on a few more seconds…
But Ish’kafel was relentless, and he was doing huge amounts of damage to Yurnero, and he felt himself about to succumb… when all of a sudden he felt rejuvenated again! “How…” and as he opened his eyes, he saw his fountain! He was healing rapidly once more, and he knew that Chen had sent him here in the nick of time…
Chen had managed to get Yurnero back to base within inches of his life. He and Kardel had gone to help Yurnero while Puck pushed hard up the top lane, keeping Atropos busy, and Rooftrellen held Axe and Magnus back.
He knew there would be no unexpected surprises, and he was eager to test the power that his newfound item bestowed upon him. The Dark Seer was injured, and Kardel had already set to work firing shot after shot at him, stunning him and never allowing him to escape their grasp. He was near death, but Pit Lord still loomed. He faced the Pit Lord, casting his slow on him to keep him at bay while they took care of Ish’kafel.
But Pit Lord’s Pit of Malice held them fast once again, and Ish’kafel managed to get out of their sight. “Go Kardel!” said Chen and Kardel, wearing a new mask, shouted a call which seemed to greatly increase his movement speed. He gave chase while Chen faced the slowed Azgalor.
Azgalor was raining his damaging spells upon Chen, and he was falling behind in this battle. He needed to time it just right… He let loose a damaging spell on the Pit Lord, and slowed him again. Pit Lord rained his fire yet again, and he seemed confident of victory, when Chen prayed for healing yet again. Pit Lord’s eyes grew wide and he turned to run, but as he did so Chen used his new item, a Guinsoos Scythe of Vyse, crafted by the goblins from the items he had collected. He watched with mild amusement as the great mass of the fleeing Azgalor was transformed into a chicken!
He let loose, damaging, slowing, attacking until he finally took Azgalor down, the great beast crashed to the ground, having failed in his quest to avenge Axe’s death. As Chen teleported back to base, very satisfied with the power of his new Scythe, he wondered what had become of Kardel in his pursuit of Ish’kafel…
As Kardel sped off, he felt the gap closing between him and his quarry even though Ish’kafel wasn’t in his sight. As he rounded a corner close to the river entrance, he spotted him. He dropped another deadly slug into his barrel, but the sound alerted Ish’kafel to his presence. Before he could get a lock on him, Ish’kafel used his speed spell yet again and bounded out of sight. “Damn! My Mask of Madness has worn off. My best hope is to try and cut him off.” So he headed for the river instead of the lane, hoping to cut Ish’kafel off. As he entered the river, a glowing red magical rune caught his eye. He approached it, and as he touched it, he felt as though his feet flew on the air, his weight seemed to evaporate.
He moved, and as he did so he realized that he could run at a furious pace! Without a moment’s hesitation he sped off into the forest, where he caught sight of a grotto to his left. He remembered what Zeus had mentioned to them before their quest began. “The most ancient of all the Ancients, the defender of none but his grotto, the behemoth of granite who fears and serves none. His name is Roshan…” Yes, this must be where the beast lurked. But his quarry was still foremost in his mind, as he knew that the spell of speed that Ish’kafel used wore off after a short time. He took note of the landmarks around him so he could lead his team back here when the time was right, and set off again at blistering speed.
He caught up with Ish’kafel at a secret shop, he had been hunched over an animal courier… “What is he up to?” he thought. As he cocked his rifle and took aim, he suddenly felt a fire all over his body! He looked at Ish’kafel and saw that he had in his hand a sword that seemed to radiate fire! It scathed him, but he was determined to complete the kill. So he dropped to one knee, set his eye to his scope, and pulled the trigger. The immense sound startled Ish’kafel, but before any reaction could be made, his stomach exploded outward. He was dead before he hit the ground…
The Scourge Chapter 5
Atropos had been battling Puck in the top lane without help for a while now, and although their magics were on a par, Puck destroyed his creeps so fast that he had no option but to retreat. With Puck having destroyed the 2nd top tower over, he had disappeared briefly, but had returned. He seemed different. He seemed to glow with an icy aura… None the less, Atropos had sent his courier to the goblins to complete a superb item, they called it the Necronomicon.
As he opened the great book and read the incantation, two small mages appeared in front of him. He saw that one had the power to burn mana with each strike of his fist, and the other was able to burn a great amount of mana through magic. “A Faerie Dragon without mana is a hopeless one…” he sneered. As he set off to face Puck, he caught no sight of him. But then out of the trees sailed the familiar orb, but this time he was ready. Or so he thought… As Puck teleported past him, he was readying his devastating ultimate to greet him, when he was burnt and frozen at the same time, an indescribable feeling. The wave of freezing shards that engulfed him hurt dearly, and he also felt the burning and incapacitating feeling of Puck’s Waning Rift. When he tried to defend himself, Puck merely vanished for a second and then reappeared doling out the damage in bucketloads.
Atropos was absolutely amazed at the rate at which he was losing his life! But then it all stopped, and he saw Puck with a completely empty mana pool! The Necronomicon summons had set about dismantling Puck’s spellcasting, and therefore, his escaping abilities. With nought but attacks, Atropos cursed his strength, and reduced his attack damage significantly. Puck had turned his attention to the summons, and quickly laid waste to the one that was orange in appearance with another painful blast of his icy aura.
Outraged at the death of his brother, the second summon flung himself at Puck, fearing no death, hoping only that his last will be done on his death. Atropos was still severely damaged, but he had enough mana to catch Puck in his deadly Fiend’s Grip. As he did so, Puck went rigid again, and stopped attacking. “Just a few seconds more…” but as soon as that thought entered his mind, it was interrupted by the most painful sensation he had ever felt. He looked down and saw that he was being torn and shredded by a huge vine, and only then did he notice the well camouflaged Rooftrellen emerge from the forest to his left. The spell had broken his concentration and therefore his spell had stopped, and Puck was free, hardly damaged. The vines grasped him tighter, cutting deeper, until he fell to the ground, unable to breath, bones breaking, eyes closing… dead. What he had not seen was his final summon being killed by Puck, dealing an immense amount of damage on implosion! The Faerie Dragon screamed in pain as he was almost ripped apart by the death of this miniscule being, and as Rooftrellen was about to give him a regenerative armor, Magnus came bounding up from the forest and let out an immense energy wave. Puck saw nothing and felt nothing, instant as his death was. Magnus squared up to Rooftrellen, a battle of Might and wits was about to ensue. But the Rooftrellen disappeared into the forest like a ghost...
