what are some easy heroes to play as?
Posted: Wed Oct 15, 2008 10:30 pmwell i just started playing dota a few weeks ago and i was wondering who are some easy heroes to play as. i dont really csre about being overpowered that much because i think windrunner and kunkka are pretty overpowered right now or atleat until they get nerfed. right now i switch back and forth between axe and sacred warrior. is there aanyone else i should try?

generally, ranged heroes such as razor and kardel are easy to play, since they have a long range and are mainly point and attack heroes, caspian will tell you that clinkz is easy but he has too many abilities that you will need to use
maybe try some casters such as zeus, just spam bolt at people, finish with ulti
just some recommendations

Folechno is right, dpsers like Razor, Drow, Sniper, Troll are very straightforward and easy to play relatively well even if you are new. Generally try to pick a hero with long range and few activated skills such as any of the aforementioned. Avoid heroes with complex AoE skills or complex combos like Puck, Rooftrellen, Luna etc. Though, if you're good at ladder (normal WC3), you might want to try your luck at summoners (Furion, Sylla, Chen, Broodmother, Enigma etc) since their style of play is pretty much the same as controlling a small army like in the regular game. Last, a few simple spellcasters (Lina, Zeus, Lion) might do the trick for you.

Using casters is a good way to build up your reaction speed by using hotkeys (imo, using hotkeys is an important factor to how fast you react).
Actually, my absolute first hero was Pudge, and I turned out to be terrible. Then I read a guide on PL and Broodmama and those turned out well. The PL and Brood guides are reputable here and you should pretty much adhere to the guides if you're planning on playing pubs.
As you play more, you should observe how the team usually functions. In Pub games, it's usually more about the individual and braggers who wanna Pub stomp. In more professional games, the players find out that the way to win is killing the other Throne, and so they coordinate more in order to complete that goal. I see it as a game of chess, kinda, because every hero has its main function that they contribute to the whole team.
Anyway, I think the most important rule for beginners is to not get hit. ^^ Just keep that in mind

I loved Tide hunter, Axe and Orge as my first heros.
Tide was so tanky and people loved me as an ally to gush and stun, axe because i could be a noob and still own, Orge because i got lucky killz with multi cast @_@ ;D

Hotkeys have nothing to do with reaction time. Hotkeys simply test your cognitive skills. It's basically how well you can memorize things. For example, I already know all of the hotkeys for any hero I play. The main hotkeys used are W, E, R, T, and D.
If you want to improve your reaction time then play Ladder for a while. Another great way is to play FPS games like CS or CoD4. If you want to try improving your reaction time through FPS game, don't play FPS games like Halo or any of the cheap Korean made ones. Those games are all made to make noobs feel better about how horrible they are at a real FPS game. Halo, Soldier Front and Combat Arms are examples of the cheap FPS games where you can have the slowest reaction time and still be good.
Anyways, back to DotA. Start out with heroes that are ranged such as Razor or Sniper like Fole stated. Read some of the strategies on here or at DotA Allstars. The first hero I started playing was Razor.
There are three main types of heroes in DotA. They are caster/supporter, dps/carry, and tank. Categorizing heroes into the three categories above will be of great help to you. Once you've categorized them, you don't have to worry about getting the right item build at all. Also, take into account the main attribute of the hero. Item build shouldn't matter that much. Experiment a little because even if you do what a strategy says is right, you can still end up failing.
Try to master some of the main concepts in DotA such as last hitting, denying, creep blocking, creep pulling, fog of war, attack animation, and other little parts of the game mechanics.

I highly recommend Morphling for beginers. Just farm and gank with wave form it's very easy for you to escape and own. Once you've gotten better you can also manipulate stats to own even more.

Actually, depending on the skill level of the people you play with. If they are beginners they by all means go for a crazy late gamer. Like Troll... or Void or something of that effect. Since they won't exactly pile on you in the beginning right?
