Jean Grey - The Phoenix [Bard Challenge]

Posted: Wed Jun 17, 2009 12:55 pm

Jean Grey - The Phoenix

The Phoenix Force is an immortal and mutable manifestation of the prime universal force of life and passion. It's host is the human Jean Grey. Jean possesses powerful telekinetic and telepathic abilities, and can sense much of the area around her. When Jean is under threat, the Phoenix Force takes over. The Phoenix itself is among the most feared beings in existence — having the power to cut and re-grow any part of the universe, as well as destroy it entirely. This is part of the Phoenix's purpose, The Judgment of the Phoenix: to burn away the obsolete.

Jean Grey - The Phoenix
Range: 450 | Move Speed: 295
Primary: INT
Str: 17 + 1.6 | Agi: 16 + 1.6 | Int: 20 + 2.8
Damage: 43 - 46 | HP: 473 | Mana: 260
HP Regen: 0.76 | Mana Regen: 0.81
Attack Speed: 1.6 | Armor: 2

Telekinesis (T)
Jean levitates two enemies and smashes them together, stunning and damaging them. Casting range improves per level. Can only be cast on player-controlled units; if the target is the only enemy player-controlled unit, it is thrown instead of damaged.
Level 1 - 75 damage (or 400 knockback), 1.25 second stun, 500 casting range.
Level 2 - 150 damage (or 450 knockback), 1.5 second stun, 600 casting range.
Level 3 - 225 damage (or 500 knockback), 1.75 second stun, 700 casting range.
Level 4 - 300 damage (or 550 knockback), 2 second stun, 800 casting range.
Mana Cost: 120/130/140/150
Cooldown: 12
Framework: The target enemy and another enemy are lifted off the ground, then fly at each other and meet in the middle before landing (stunned). The second enemy is chosen at random from all non-targeted, player-controlled enemies within a 400 AOE of the target. If there is only one enemy, it is knocked back the stated distance (like Adaptive Strike) and stunned.
Notes: * "Player-controlled enemies" here meaning heroes, images, summons and converted units. Creeps (allied, neutral, and enemy) will not be counted. * Jean targets one enemy with this skill, and it picks out the second target at random within a 400 AOE of the first target. If there are no appropriate second targets, the initial target suffers knockback instead of damage.

Retrieval (R)
Jean delves into an enemy's mind, retrieving the worst memories and bringing them to the surface to inflict suffering once more. Deals damage equal to a percentage of the damage dealt to the target within the last 20 seconds. Jean is exposed to the stream of memories and takes 50% of the damage received by the target.
Level 1 - 10% damage.
Level 2 - 20% damage.
Level 3 - 30% damage.
Level 4 - 40% damage.
Mana Cost: 200
Cooldown: 40
Framework: Lvl Death Framework in bright red/purple on the target, smaller one on Jean.
Notes: For example: if the target takes 400 damage in the 20 seconds before this skill is cast, then this skill deals 160 damage to the target and 80 damage to Jean. If the target takes 2000 damage, this skill deals 800 damage to the target and 400 damage to Jean. Regenerated HP does not count against this skill's effect.

Seek (E)
Jean expands her focus, searching for enemy heroes by finding their mental energies. Gives vision of all enemy heroes within an expanding AOE around her. Channels for up to 4 seconds.
Level 1 - AOE increases by 400 per second. Heroes are revealed until 3 seconds after channeling ends.
Level 2 - AOE increases by 550 per second. Heroes are revealed until 4 seconds after channeling ends.
Level 3 - AOE increases by 700 per second. Heroes are revealed until 5 seconds after channeling ends.
Level 4 - AOE increases by 850 per second. Heroes are revealed until 6 seconds after channeling ends.
Channeling spell.
Mana Cost: 50/65/80/95
Cooldown: 25
Framework: Jean channels. Reveals a 400 AOE around enemy heroes once they are within the Seek AOE.
Notes: Does not reveal the entire Seek AOE, only the 400 AOE around heroes caught in it.

Phoenix Force (C)
Being the host and physical manifestation of the cosmic Phoenix Force, Jean's body falls under its control when threatened. If Jean's hp is reduced to a critical level, she enters the Phoenix state. During the Phoenix state, Jean is phased, silenced, deals chaos damage on her attacks, has increased hp regeneration and movespeed, and has the passive Judgment ability. Lasts for 5 seconds after Jean's hp is above the stated percentage.
Level 1 - Activates when hp goes below 20%, grants +20 hp regen per second, +10% movespeed, and lvl1 Judgment.
Level 2 - Activates when hp goes below 25%, grants +40 hp regen per second, +15% movespeed, and lvl2 Judgment.
Level 3 - Activates when hp goes below 30%, grants +60 hp regen per second, +20% movespeed, and lvl3 Judgment.
Passive.
Mana Cost: NA
Cooldown: NA
Framework: Jean becomes phased, her attack animation and projectile change, and she has a flaming aura around her.
Notes: If Jean's hp goes above the stated percentage for less than 5 seconds then goes below again, Jean remains in the Phoenix state. Only activates for enemy, player-controlled damage.

Judgment (D):
The Phoenix Force violently counterattacks against the threat to its host, attempting to eradicate all enemies around it. Deals chaos damage per second in an area around the Phoenix. Damage and AOE increases per level.
Lvl1 - 2% of enemies' max hp per second, 500 AOE.
Lvl2 - 3% of enemies' max hp per second, 600 AOE.
Lvl3 - 4% of enemies' max hp per second, 700 AOE.
Passive.
Framework: Midnight Pulse Framework, but in red and it shifts with the Phoenix' movements.
Notes: Passive skill granted by the Phoenix state.

Discussion:

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

* High Intelligence gain (20 + 2.8 ).
* High damage potential with Telekinesis and Retrieval.
* Difficult to ambush due to Seek.
* Difficult to kill due to Phoenix Force.
* Good skill synergy.

Cons:

* Low Strength gain (17 + 1.6).
* Low Agility gain (16 + 1.6).
* Telekinesis works poorly against single enemies.
* Phoenix Force is risky, difficult to control, and silences Jean.

Skill Description:

Telekinesis:

Jean's only disable. Big drawback of only dealing damage when there is a second target; however, in the other case, it doubles as a hefty knockback skill, which does have its uses. Both the damage and knockback versions inflict a stun.

Retrieval:

Jean's most powerful nuke, with literally unlimited potential damage. Once again with a drawback - 50% of the damage the target sustains is also dealt to Jean, and Jean has very poor hp. High mana cost and cooldown make this impossible to spam, as does the toll it takes on Jean's health.

Seek:

Jean's vision skill. Can be used as an early-warning system or a way to find enemies to gank, or both. Like all vision skills.

Phoenix Force:

Jean's passive, self-defensive ultimate. This skill makes her nearly impossible to kill with regular attacks, although a couple of quick nukes would finish her almost as easily as normal. The lack of control and the fact that it silences Jean's other skills makes this skill very hard to use effectively, although if controlled properly it will only make her more dangerous. Judgment will inflict a heavy toll on enemies. Also, only player-controlled damage will trigger the Phoenix state - like for Blink Dagger - so you can't just go solo Roshan with this.

Skill Synergy:

Telekinesis -> Retrieval: Use TK for damage and then amplify it with Retrieval. Not a great use of Retrieval, best to have dealt additional damage previously.

Seek -> Telekinesis: Use Seek to find targets, then use TK's high casting range to bash them from a distance.

Phoenix Force -> Retrieval: After Phoenix Force wears off, nail someone with Retrieval to amplify all the damage they took from Judgment.

Retrieval -> Phoenix Force: Use Retrieval to take the recoil damage in order to trigger Phoenix Force.

Items:

Boots of Travel
Dagon
Khadgar's Pipe of Insight
Radiance
Guinsoo`s Scythe of Vyse
Heart of Tarrasque

Allies:
Nukers

Enemies:

Retrieval is a targeted spell.

I really like the skills you created for this hero, they sound most importantly fun to use. However, the ultimate might be imba with certain items. Very Happy

I think the ulti should have a cooldown after activation like abaddon's. At this rate, any dps'ers will have an extremely hard time taking down Jean with +60 regen after going below 30%. Like if Jean at level 25 got her heart, she'd have 2158 HP (im pretty sure i calculated that right with the heart) and have a HP regen of 81.58/second. (I've added heart's 1% HP regen to the +60 she gets from Pheonix Force). And that's just a heart... With Attribute Bonus she gains 20 STR so...

20*19 = 380 extra HP
Total HP = 2538 so the regen is
2538 * 0.01 = 85.38 HP/second

Throw on a Bloodstone...

2988 HP in total.

89.88 regen/second. Almost 90hp/second

I can't imagine huskar putting his life regen on you...
