Lag help -_-'

I just got Counterstrike: Source because a whole bunch of my friends started playing it.
Lucky me my crappy computer is being super laggy. I deleted a whole bunch of things I don't use and I stopped a ton of startup things and whatever else runs in the background of my computer.

What in the first place is most likely causing my lag, if it is my ram or my graphics card or what, and also what's a cheap solution?

Crappy computer eh? Methinks it's your graphics card. I'm not good on computers so you'll have to wait till someone recommends a cheap, good graphics card.

What is the hard drive on your computer? How many Gigahertz? How many Gigabytes of RAM?

Also, is it the computer that is lagging, or the internet?

If its the computer, theres many things you can do to speed it up such as defragmenting. If its the internet connection, then maybe you should get a new ISP

it's definately the computer. i have great internet but crappy graphics and crappy ram.

its got 80gig harddrive, 2.66 GHz, 512Mb of ram.

im thinking its the ram

80 gigs? Duuuuude, you need an upgrade. My old e-machine had a 90 gig hardrive and it was barely able to run HALO. No way I'd ever think of running something like Counter Strike Source.

well, im not sure if this'll work, but i used to play css, and have a crap computer, Slightly better than yours. i remember i used to turn off everysingle little detail via console, so it becomes like playing 1.6 except its a bit rounder. im not sure if its actually css im talking about, but i recall myself doing something to make css faster. i cant remember the codes for it, or if it still even works, but you can find them somewhere on google Smile

try lowering your css resolution.maybe your graphic card cannot support the resolution

Ok CSS Pro here to help!

Go into Steam. Right click on Source and go properties.
go Launch Options or Advanced something...

type -dxlevel 81

with the -

Also go lower your resolution and your details.. Lower shadows and texture to low ect. should run ALOT better
