How is it??
No ending time set.
Good, you should keep going on 77% [ 72 ]
Average, still readable 22% [ 21 ]
The next chapter should be up by tomorrow or the day after.
The bounty hunter should have been a selfish, money-craving fighter, but my story twisted that part, thought most would realise the irony of it.

Chapter 28 The New Threat
Gondar carried Traxex back to the nearest camp, where there will be medics ready to tend to her wounds.
“So you’re the remaining survivor of your squad?”
“Pudge killed them all, he attacked us when we were regrouping, we didn’t even stand a chance,”
“Don’t worry, his dead, and we are nearing the camp site,” said the bounty hunter as he turned to look behind.
“Thanks, wouldn’t had survive without your help, I really am grateful,” said the drow ranger. She continued, “So you’re finished with your mission?”
“It wasn’t a mission, since my break-out, I felt I was losing my touch, thus I went back to continue my training.”
As they entered the camp site, a dozen guards approached them with weapons held high, but as they got closer, their weapons were kept, instead some drew out bandages and herbs to treat the ranger.
“Quick send her to the first-aid tent, we wouldn’t want her to catch an infection.” commanded the bounty hunter under his hood.
“Your arrival is most delightful, but these are hard times,” said a Tauren who just came out of the center tent, “Alert the healers, their skills are needed,” continued Cairne Bloodhoof. “Gondar, follow me, there is a lot to discuss,”
The bounty hunter gave a wave goodbye to his wounded friend and entered the tent, readying his heart to take the worst of what’s to come.
A plan was laid down on a table, a battle plan. Bits and pieces were laid down as armies and squads, from the looks of it, its was a losing battle, for the Sentinels. Gondar took of his hood, stood there and awaited for the Tauren to speak.
“The east fort has been conquered by our enemy just a week ago, then from the riverside, our scouts report that there is reinforcement being sent to the enemies, and the riverside is where the airships drop them. The scouts saw numerous enemies that day; it wouldn’t take long till they strike here. The town’s folk are scared to their wits, none would volunteered to fight for their own cause," Cairne sighed, “Bounty hunter, I hope the years you took for your training would be worth it, for there is another thing you must know,”
Gondar didn’t look interested from his expression’s, but actually he felt a hint of guilt for abandoning the Sentinels for five years, it was for a greater good, but he can’t help but feel a little responsible for the sudden shift of force in the battlefield.
“The obelisk has surfaced again,”
“I guess the apocalypse is arriving sooner than we expected.” added Gondar.

Chapter 29 Obelisk
A figure stood there, looking amazed by the view in front of him. The dark and mysterious structure stood there, about 50 feet tall, bursting out from beneath the ice and snow it is now above just a few days ago, with glowing signs and shimmering runes covering every part of the great obelisk, filling the cold and windy air with a strong and powerful layer of magic.
“Isn’t it beautiful?” said another figure as he joined the first. The second was a thin and old man, with wrinkles covering his face, markings and tattoos all over his small and weak arms. Grey and frizzed hair hung down his head, showing his untidiness and ignorance for hygiene.
“It is an amazing sight, even words couldn’t comprehend it. Stranger are you an adventurer of some sort, maybe an explorer? You look too old to have journeyed to such a place.” said the first as his hood covers his face.
“I maybe old, but as an explorer, it is always worth the price, as is the same with you,” said the old man as he grinned as the other.
“You are a great man and is worthy of a great explorer, putting your life at risk for the sake of the wonders of this world,”
The old man couldn’t help but take those wonderful praises from a complete stranger, “I am thankful that you admire my bravery and sense of adventure, let me repay you with a treat,”
Before the hooded figure could resist that offer, the old man continued, “I could show you why sorcerers and magicians all over the world honor one of these obelisks, as I don’t mind sharing my knowledge with a young one like you,”
Both when nearer to the obelisk, threading on solid ice and avoiding hills of snow, the wind wasn’t strong, so they path was easily seen, after struggling through the obstacles, they reached at the very bottom of the obelisk where a spiral staircase that started there was conveniently build.
“Hope you don’t mind the stairs, it won’t be long, just a few more feet higher,” said the old man going up the dusty and stone carved stairs which were clean of snow.
As they went close to the tip of the structure, the stairs ended with an entrance to inside the obelisk, the two ventured in the cave-like entrance to see a dark room lighted with symbols and carvings which were glowing in crimson red.
The old man turned to the hooded man and sighed, “I’m sorry, but I have lied to you, I am no explorer, I’m a necromancer who came here to seek power, I regret lying to such a decent human. There is only one way to activate the obelisks’ powers, with a human sacrifice, blood must be spilled, the Scourge is arriving soon, with the obelisk’s help I could finally join them.” As the old man finished, he expected the man to run for his live, and he shall have to chase his prey, but the hooded figure only chuckled which worry the necromancer ever more so.
“Well I’m not sorry,” said the hooded figure with great confidence, “I’d never said I was an explorer, you just assume that, I never showed my face or introduce myself, so you shouldn’t assume I’m not stronger than you, and lastly the Scourge never recruit simpletons like you,” The figure muttered a few words and orbs began glowing and circling, three different ones, and with another incantation, the necromancer froze where he stood, with his hands readying for a spell.
“Just to make it clear, you are the most incompetent imbecile I have ever met, I hope this hurts,” as he smashed the helpless old man against the wall with a force so strong, the head was crushed with the skull within, the glowing increased and the room was immediately filled with thick magic.
The hooded figure walked out, refreshed from that dose of magic, but it wasn’t enough, it will never be enough. Suddenly, he saw two figure approaching, they look like sorcerers, a double meal, the Invoker smiled at the thought.

Chapter 30 Ghoul trouble (Part 1)
As the bounty hunter and the panderan brewmaster journeyed past the woods, they noticed how some of the healthiest trees look wilted, branches at the edge of breaking, leaves falling off till none are left even though spring was arriving soon, the symphony and rhythm of the music the trees once made were gone. The druids and elves said that the weaker trees have given up hope, losing themselves to the deep slumber the Scourge is putting them into.
“I remember this big tree,” said Mangix as he touched a big oak tree with his great furry paws. He continued, “Few years back, this tree gave me a place to take a good old nap, even at hard times, this tree always relights the hope within me, to see it in this new state, cold and empty,” Mangix turned away from this sad truth and went on with Gondar watching him ending the sad tale of this oak tree, “I wish I could save it from its own demise,” said the panda. Gondar could have sworn tears were already running, Mangix isn’t the most emotional warrior around, but he was really close to nature, but with his drinking nature, most forget it.
Every time the leaves were stepped on, they would always make a soothing rustling sound, Gondar didn’t hear that sound for a long time, now he regrets it, its just the same as it is in the Scourge, just a hard crack, no more.
The two were travelling through the near borders of the Northern Wall, to reach the town that the alchemist said he saw ghouls lumbering around, murdering people.
The path they thread were cruel and unforgiving, each step was a burden, as it told them how the Scourge has the upper hand, that it was too late, the world is lost, they were wasting their time.
Mangix began sipping down the beer that he brought, but the sips became more and more, next he was pouring it down.
“You shouldn’t drink during an assignment,” said Gondar, already knowing why the panderan was drinking in such a manner.
“I’ll, I’ll crush those foul creatures, they, don’t deserve being in this, this wonderful world,” said Mangix as the alcohol’s effects get to him. He steps were getting wobbly, his was walking in a zigzag fashion.
“We are closing in the town, we should keep our guard up,” said the bounty hunter as he snatched the beer from the drunk panda, “Get yourself together,”
Then it happens.
A huge number of undead warriors dropped down from high above the trees, their skeletons and obscene bones showing, rags and rotting flesh dangling every, some of their skulls were still have hair, though filled with big fat lice, mold could be seen growing of some, These were the lowest of the lowest of the Scourge, the ghouls, a necromancer’s most basic servant, stupid and unreliable, but their strength come from numbers, one could make a mistake, a few could make the same, but more and not all would fail.
Gondar unsheathe his blades before they touched the ground, leaving Mangix to fight of the beer’ effect as a battle is coming. a bloody one indeed, without the blood.
Usually ghouls come one by one, dispatching was easy this way, but something was different, they look bigger and stronger today, and their attacks look like it was practiced and in sequence. Two ghouls charged at them from the front, while the others quickly surround them, ready to pounce on them at any moment.
With two consecutive strikes, the charging ghouls stop on their tracks, falling down on the floor in pieces. Gondar hurried back to Mangix’s side as he noticed the ghouls were eyeing the panda, they know he was an easier target.
Some ran, some jumped, some supported the attackers, it was all in perfect harmony, they were trained, Gondar fended them off as he protected the panda and himself. If he was alone, things would be much easier, a simple wind walk and would fall beneath his feet, but with Mangix as the target, it was impossible. The brewmaster use his staff to hold the wave of ghouls back, trying to evade their sharp and piecing claws, but his sight was useless to him, he was too drunk. Suddenly he vomited, the ghouls took this opportunity to jump on the big panda.
The weight was too much for the panda’s strong legs, he fell, face to the ground, with the ghouls clawing his exposed back, Gondar saw it happen, but he was too late to stopped it, he parried the ghouls’ blows and went for Mangix.
Things look hopeless for the panda, a mighty warrior falling to the lowliest pawns, he couldn’t believe it. Then he notices it, how could he lose? Instantly the fog cause by the drinking in his mind was clear and he split into three panda, escaping the ghouls.
The tide turned itself through that event, the ghouls were outmatched, Gondar took this chance to wind walk and dispatch the support behind the attacking ghouls. In a blink of an eye, the three pandas took care of the ghouls attacking him. As his return to his original form, he ended the battle with a thunder clap. Now the number of ghouls were greatly reduce, an easy task to finish them off.
Too easy, thought Gondar, what was the point of this attack? It puzzled him; it must be a distraction, or a delaying tactic, but for what?
Then something came down, it look like just another ghoul, but it was different, it was significantly bigger, it had a darker shade, it was heavier as seen form the cracks it made on the ground. Gondar wind walk and went closer, to meet Naix, not a ghoul.
The bounty hunter retreated to Mangix and ordered, “Fall back, retreat, this battle isn’t worth it,” before the panderan start to protest, “Its Naix” that’s was all the reason the brewmaster needed.
But their retreat was halted by a reinforcement of ghouls, creating a impenetrable wall, sealing the exit from this battle.
Naix chuckle in his own weird way, saliva was drooling down his lower jaw, he was hungry. Without any restrain, he charge toward the two with eyes clouded by fury, claws scratching the floor to prove how sharp it was, a red but dark glow surrounded the lifestealer, a magical and physical shield, Gondar kept his shuriken, this was a melee fight. Two versus one, most would know the result of that battle, how wrong those people are, Naix was and is famous for his unquenchable thirst for the essence that kept his enemies alive, their life source. An army would fall to this being, not to mention two.
It was a dreadful end to being killed by Naix, as he never kills anything, most wish they die, some kill themselves, even the bravest fall to Naix’s behavior of feasting.
Gondar and Magix brace themselves; as it was a tough battle between them and Naix, surrounded by the new and improved ghouls. Death was waiting patiently.
