As promised, a new chapter

Chapter 6: The Wizard's story

Davion was lying on the floor, paralyzed by the amount of energy that necklace released. He opened his eyes. For a moment, he couldn’t see anything; it was as dark as moonless night. Next second, a bright light came from the sky. Davion couldn’t look up to see what it was, but it didn’t matter anyway. First it became purple, next it disappeared. But, when he looked up, he didn’t saw stars, nor moon, but some sort of purple spots on the sky. They didn’t had any recognizable shape, the whole thing looked more like paint spilled on scrambled paper around a ball then like a planet somewhere in universe. The ground was black, same like most of the things there. Strangely, those purple spots didn’t seem to emit light, but you could see everything.

“Hello...” Davions words echoed trough the place, but it seemed no one heard them. He didn’t say anything else, knowing that his words can be heard by something unfriendly as well. Instead, he started walking trough that desolate planet.

“Even footsteps echo here.” Davion said. He was walking for half an hour, but hearing nothing yet. Davion relaxed, finally convinced that nobody was on that planet.

He walked around a bit longer, trying to find something there, but it really seemed that there is nothing there. Then, from out of nowhere, a mountain! Davion was curious, how didn’t he see it before. There was a cave entrance was at the foothill of that huge mountain, but should he enter? If something as big as that mountain can remain hidden until you get really close, what else could? As strange as it was, he could swear he heard a voice calling him. He knew it was some sort of magic, cause the voice didn’t echo. No doubt, he shouldn’t enter. But, he felt like he needs to enter, like there is something inside he needs to see. Davion decided...he will enter.

When Davion entered, he realized that was some kind of mine. Wagons were still filled with some strange material. It looked like iron, but it was more flexible. There were no pickaxes, which seemed awkward to him. With what could they pick them? He continued walking, wasting no time, knowing that the miners would return, and he didn’t want to take any chances with them...

Deeper inside, Davion found himself in a chamber of what seemed to him like mirrors, only they didn’t reflect what was in front of them, nor you could see trough them. They seemed to be showing something completely different. There were dozens of them in there, and it seemed like there were more in the next chamber. As he was walking pass them, he saw something familiar in one of them. “Tyrande?” He saw her passing trough the forest to their home. Strangely though, she was wearing the same necklace he is now. Davion couldn’t help but to wonder was she here as well.

She stopped at the door. A strange noise was heard from the back. Tyrande got up on her tiger and ran to the backyard. There it was. He remembered that face well; the Death Knight. Furion quickly trapped him in a ring of trees, but he was trying to cut them down. Tyrande fired an enchanted arrow and hit the Death Knight, after what her tiger leaped towards them on her command. He remembered what happened next. After Furion left with him and Mirana, the Death Knight escaped the ring.

“Damn, he escaped.” Said the Death Knight. “No matter, at least we will have the pleasure of killing you.”

“We?” Wondered Tyrande. Something looked different. It became dark, night fell. Tyrande was looking around “I could have sworn it was day just a minute ago. “

Death Knight casted a barrier of some sort on himself, and charged towards her. She tried hitting him, but the barrier seemed to reflect all those blows. She called down falling stars, which destroyed the barrier, but also made it disperse in all directions, which almost thrown her of the tiger. After that, he started charging her with green barrier surrounding him, which healed all of the damage her arrows caused. She leaped behind him, while the green barrier faded. She tried to summon the stars again, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t even speak. From out of nowhere appeared a winged creature, with horns on his pale head, and big sharp claws. He knocked her of her tiger. Tiger tried to attack the horned beast, but the creature caught him in mid air, sinking his claws in his neck. For the first time in years, Tyrande was afraid. Both the creature and the knight attacked her with full force. Finally, she was able to speak, and just in time, cause the horned creature was about to sink his claws in her. She went invisible, but the beast still stabbed her. Davion, in anger, smashed that mirror into hundreds of pieces.

“Coward, he couldn’t face her on his own.”

He calmed down eventually, and sat down, leaning on a wall of the chamber.

“How do I even know that’s what really happened.” Davion wondered.

“Oh, it really did go on like that. I give you my word.” A voice, that seemed to come from the same chamber echoed trough it to him. He jumped up and looked around, but there was no one.

“Show yourself.” Davion’s words echoed trough the chamber, but it looked like nobody heard them. He repeated the sentence, but, again, nothing came out. Thinking that whatever it was probably went to the next chamber, he went there as well, but quietly, not wanting to attract any unwanted attention.

The entrance to the next chamber had lot of text carved on it. It told a story of a wizard deep in the lands of Lordaeron. Unlike most of the wizards in the land, who were more interested in casting powerful spells that wrecked havoc amongst their enemies, he was more interested in summoning creatures and beasts. He especially liked summoning Dragons, fierce flying creatures, who’s tick scales could deflect almost anything thrown or fired at them as well as make spells have absolutely no effect, who’s searing heat and breaths of fire could destroy entire armies in minutes, who’s speed is next to unmatched. He could summon some of the fiercest Dragons known to all men. But soon, he took a more drastic approach to his desire to summon the strongest Dragons.

He soon began to study them. Although it was hard at first to even get close to them, since they would mostly fly away or hide, he earned the thrust of one particular dragon. He allowed him to join his group. It took some time before the Dragons accepted him in their society, but at last, after two months, he succeeded. Unlike what he and most of the human world thought about Dragons, they were quite social. In fact, he even considered them as gentle creatures, when not threatened at least. They would rarely attack anything, and actually hunted stags and other creatures of the forest, not humans, as most of them thought. Eventually he found out that humans were provoking Dragons to attack. They were almost never aggressive; the only time they were was when something else or another dragon came into their territory.

That was all it said on the walls. Davion knew that the rest was probably at the next entrance.

“You coming?” A voice inside the next chamber echoed. Davion entered it.

This chamber didn’t look like a chamber at all. It looked more like a really narrow and tall hallway. There was nothing inside this hallway, but Davion felt like there’s something close, something really powerful. He continued his way.

“Enough of this. Come out” He said after couple of minutes.

“Not yet. First you need to see something.” The voice said.

“How long is this cave anyway?” Davion asked

“Hm, don’t know exactly, but I’m guessing we’re close to the end right now.” The voice said. Davion knew that he was invisible, because the sound came from right beside him.

”Whatever he wanted to show me is probably going to be at the end of the cave”. Davion thought

“Why are you so silent anyway? I thought you would be more cheerful fellow.” The voice continued. Davion didn’t answer. He didn’t even know what to say.

“Ah, here we are.” The voice said. They were right in front of a big entrance. Davion could sense some magic at work; the entrance was probably closed by some sort of spell. “Feel free to pass, the magic only work for non-human beings.” It continued to speak. “I bet you also can’t wait to hear the rest of the story. After you’re done reading it, come in.”

Davion continued to read the story.

The wizard barely believed what he was seeing. Dragons, one of the most powerful races being shown as gentle, sociable and peaceful creatures. He had to tell the town about this. But, when he came back, he was mocked by everyone. One of the best summoners, now being mocked as some child. The wizard had to prove his claim, and he knew how. He needed to bring a dragon to the town, to show them just how peaceful and generous these creatures are. He needed to show them in a different light. But, that ended in tragedy. As soon as one of the dragons landed into their village, every man grabbed his weapon and attacked it. Despite the wizard’s tries to persuade them to drop their weapons and leave the dragon alone, the bloodthirsty humans killed the dragon. The wizard was exiled from the town and into the woods. He thought he could return to the Dragons, but they, in fear of another death, sent him away too. But he didn’t care.

The wizard knew why he came to the forest, and he knew he had to do it. But, he came up with something better, something that might bring the two species together. He tried to create a half-dragon, half-human. It is a first try of mixing two species without their will. He needed a baby of both species if he could even think of doing something like that, and just finding a baby dragon would be a great problem. The wizard remembered something. One of the dragon eggs was about to hatch. If he can get there and steal the egg unnoticed, he could begin this. He ran towards their encampment as fast as he can. The first second the baby gets out of its shell, it will call for its mom. He got there just in time, the egg didn’t hatch. He grabbed it before anyone could see it.

Despite what many think, dragon eggs are quite small, it was half the size of a child. Now, he had to sneak into a village and find a human baby. Although it wasn’t so hard to find one, it was difficult to take it. He sneaked into the town unrecognized. Then, the wizard looked trough the windows till he found a baby inside. It took him almost half an hour, but he found one at last. Strangely no guards were passing around. He entered the house, and found only a mother and a baby sleeping. Her husband must be at guard right now. He took the baby, trying not to wake it up, and went out the same way he got in.

Now the wizard needed to make a potion for the spell. He knew exactly where to find it. There was one vial of that potion back at his house. But it was way deep in the town. Somebody might recognize him. But he needed to hurry before the egg wakes up. He ran to his house as fast as he could. Even more strange was that nobody heard him run. At last the wizard got to it. It took a little green vial from the desk and continued his way towards the cave he left the egg and the baby.

All of this time it troubled him how didn’t nobody see or hear him. Somebody was coming. He hid behind a pile of crates and listened.

“Damn, of all the nights, the Undead had to attack now.”

Undead? The wizard knew had to help them, but he couldn’t. Instead, he ran to the cave before the undead get to him. He got to the cave, and was surprised to see that the dragon hatched. He knew now was the time. While saying some words on elven language, he opened the vial and spilled some of the liquid it contained on both babies. Then he opened a portal, and sucked both of them inside. Now he needed to wait, but not too long. Something exploded in the cave. He turned around.

The story ended there, but there was more space left to write. He knew the story was unfinished. But, since he finished reading, Davion entered the next chamber.

“Finally, you’re here. Was the story interesting?” The voice said.

“Yes, it was. How does it finish?” Davion answered

“Hehe, I don’t know. The writer fled from the gnolls around here before he could finish it.” Davion knew he was lying, but was silent. The voice continued. “Beautiful, aren’t they? I designed them myself.” It pointed at gauntlets that seemed to be lying on a pillar in the centre of the chamber. Davion walked closer to them.

“Don’t even bother, they were stolen anyways.” The voice said with a disappointed voice.

“What are you talking about, they are right here.” Davion said

“They are not real. I created that mirror image just so everybody who comes would still think it’s there” Davion sensed sadness in the voice. “I am telling you all this cause I believe you can return them to me.”

“Me? I don’t even know where they are.” Davion said, confused to his choice.

“I know, and I believe you know him very well.” A sound of fingers snapping was heard, after which one of the mirrors similar to the one at the first chamber appeared. An image was forming.

“He is known as Abaddon, quite a famous Death Knight.” Davion felt rage just by looking at the mirror. He looked like he was preparing to attack him.

“Now, before you smash another mirror, you should know that the gauntlets aren’t in his arms, but in the hands of a Dreadlord. I think you will recognize him as well. He calls himself Balanar.” Another image popped up. “He is the one who killed Tyrande, not the Death Knight.” Another snap was heard, and the mirror disappeared.

“I will get your gauntlets.” Davion was full of anger. If he is to trust what this voice is saying, he would have two enemies to defeat, and one has a powerful artifact at his disposal. Nevertheless, he wasn’t thinking about backing down. He knew what he had to do.

“Well, now you better get back to your own realm if you wanna get those gauntlets back.” One more snap was heard. Davion was falling down trough the earth. But, at the bottom it wasn’t a big molten core or something, it was...sky. There was ground below it too. Davion could recognize where he’s falling. It was Sentinel’s base.

“This might hurt.” He said. Next second, he was in his tavern, and the paralysis was gone.

Here is the first part of chapter 7, because i can't write more atm...see you next tuesday.tnx dohyun...

Chapter 7: Double Mission

“Aaaa...” Davion screamed, and jumped up in the same time. Breathing heavily and sweating, Davion, at first, thought it was all just a dream. But, then he looked at the clock. From what he knew, it seemed that the same time passed in his “dream” and here. It had to be real. He looked trough the window. “I need to get out of this base undetected. Hopefully, nobody saw me paralyzed.” Davion thought.

Nothing out of the ordinary was going on outside, or so it seemed. “It’s best not to waste any time”. He quickly putted on his armor, then helmet. Because of his ears, he had to put the helmet carefully, like most Elves, so they wouldn’t be bent inside of it. After that, he took his sword in one hand, and the shield in other. He was good to go. Hopefully, no one will notice him slipping out.

On his way out, he was thinking should he bring anyone along. But, even if he would, he didn’t know who. Furion is too protective, he wouldn’t let him go. Under no circumstances is he to find out about this mission. Mirana is already on a mission far out of the base, so she is out of the question. Purist was wounded badly in the last fight, so he didn’t want to bring him in another. There was only one more, Rylai. But, he didn’t know could he trust her. He first met her less than a day ago. He wasn’t even sure could he trust Purist. It was best for him to go on alone.

“Hey, Davion.” Davion heard a familiar female voice. He turned around. Rylai was standing behind him. “What are you doing here?”

“I guess I got lost.” Davion quickly responded, trying to remain calm.

“Well, we better get going, Furion is looking for you.” Rylai said. Davion couldn’t say no, not to look suspicious. He had to come; the mission was left on hold, for now.

They headed towards the foothill of the World Tree. Fourteen years back, Furion ordered the builders to build a fortress in case the Scourge gets trough all other defenses. It was made so it can last months of sieges by the best of the best champions. The fortress could also be booby-trapped, giving it power to survive even more. The position of the fortress also meant the enemies would have to go trough it to get to the World Tree.

The guards let them in. The entrance was big enough for even the biggest of Sentinel’s warriors to pass without a problem. One of the guards led them to the room where they needed to meet Furion. It was positioned at the very rear of the fortress, walking there took quite some time. It was always unclear why was that room put so far.

The long hallways had 1 set of hollow armors every four meters, one on the right wall, and one on the left. Some of them had shields, bows, maces, swords, axes, some even had different helmets, and differently painted chest plates...Every now and then they would see one of those set “swinging” their weapons or “firing” arrows at each other. Walls between each set were filled with pictures of all kind. Some were there because they were picturing a legendary warrior, some because a historical moment was drawn, and some simply because they were masterpieces the fortress had to have.

The guard left them at the door of the room. On them hanged a board saying “Conference Room”. They entered. Inside waited Furion, along with Purist. Davion came closer to Furion, who was watching the World Tree trough a window.

“Beautiful isn’t it?” Furion said, and shortly after continued “It is a sight to behold, but it’s so fragile, and we are its only protection. Although it may look like an ordinary tree, the powers it holds are what gave us Night Elves the power over nature, as well as immortality. Although we lost immortality after the second invasion of the Burning Legion and the coming of Archimonde, it still grants us power over nature, and ability to cure the land from the dead. If the Lich King destroys the World Tree, there will be little hope of stopping the dead.”

“That’s not all that can happen, isn’t it?” Davion asked, hoping that Furion won’t confirm what he knows is true.

“True.” Furion said, and then stopped to take a breath. “If the Lich King can somehow absorb the World Tree’s power, he would be so strong, not even the whole Burning Legion could oppose him alone.”

“Are you going to tell us now why did you call for us, Furion?” Asked Purist

“Yes.” Furion answered. “Rooftrelen’s eyes spotted the Scourge’s army moving towards the Blood Elf villages. We need to evacuate them immediately. I myself will evacuate one of the villages, while you evacuate the first one it is going to hit. They should be packed up already, so all you need to do is to protect them. I heard that two more volunteers will join you on this mission. Also, I ordered some of our champions to prepare for a counterattack. Hopefully, they will come before the army reaches their main town. Any questions?”

“I thought that the Blood Elves were a part of the Scourge. How come we’re helping them?” Purist Asked.

“True, most of the Blood Elves joined the Scourge when Kael did. But, not all were so foolish. Some felt rage, some felt disappointment, and so they joined us to stop their master.”

“Why don’t we simply defend the first village? And how many of them are there anyway?”

“The first village has no defenses; it was built only few months ago. Rooftrelen counted out around 40-50 units and three champions. There are some siege weapons as well. More importantly, he said some faster, more agile units separated from the group. They could ambush you while you evacuate them to the base. Anything else?”

The silence meant there was nothing more to be discussed.

“Ok, grab a teleport scroll and let’s go. They will teleport you there, just read the incantation.” Furion said and then started teleporting. Purist quickly grabbed a scroll and started casting the spell written on it. Soon after, Davion and Rylai did the same.
