How works Meld?

Meld is something like a backstab from a WW but it is more backstab than WW bcuz if u move in Shadow Meld u will become visible again. So dont use it to escape, only use it in battle.

I prefer maxing out psi blades and refract first for good farming , then i take meld :

Hard-to-use hero. Basically her skills reflect her name: Assassin. Many of her skills are ideally for 1v1 battles. Plant psionic traps where you think the unsuspecting fool will come, Meld to become invisible, Refraction for bonus assassin dmg. I believe Psionic traps also have a limited use as wards.

I'm not a fan of assassin heroes (other than anubarak) so i liave you to figure out what items to buy for her.

Meld lets you hide anytime, anywhere for as long as you want with a bonus atk of 200 dmg and -8 armor for just 100 mana. Not to mention the 12 sec cool down.

Psi blade gives you 260 range splash and some bonus to your pathetic "range", but 260 splash range..ouch?

Refraction lets you have 6 mini nukes to your atk for 75 mana =super early game killer.

psionis trap is where they really made it imba. Place about 3-4 traps down every single lane and you have your self 15-20 sec slow for a guaranteed kill. You can even place one infront of a guy during a chase for a good chance of slowing them down. all this for just 15 mana each, WOW.

from my understanding, each point into psi blades increases the distance from behind your target that gets hurt, and it seems that the added range is the distance the splash travels. therefore farming lanes with creeps all right next to eachother or directly behind themselves benefits from splashes closer to your target better when i put 1 or 2 points into it; therefore it seems that farming splashes enemies better than 3 or 4 points into blades.

kinda like pa... would get a mask of madness, butter.. along those lines

really good skills but i am very disapointed with this ulti!!!i think it sucks!!!and i think that in the new version will make it better.not only upgrating the max traps but and the slow at about 65-70%!its a good idea

Have u guys seen the range she sets her traps at. She can be in the forested areas and slow someone fleeing with the traps and come out and kill them. I havent played with her in a good game yet but I think she may die easily without items.

I mean, she got Meld wich is decreasing the opponents armor, and with Stygians orb its realy evil. And then ure also getting a lot of damage, wich is also evil for her.

Stoyo: Refraction blocks all damage from creeps or heroes for your 6 hits.. only damage you gain is from target you are attacking...

So.. it is smart to place your traps on the lane where creeps are heading, stand on the lane when nobody can see you.. use your refraction, then MELD.. wait until the hero comes with the creeps and attack...

in the procession, you gain no damage from creeps! Enemy hero stays cool.. because he thinks that his creeps will take your health down quickly... but with your refraction boost damage and slow of your traps... it is his last mistake xD.

well i'm not completely sure but as i was hitting someone with desolater..then melded and proceeded..the damage increase was blantely obvious

a nice item combo to keep opponents guessing is Lothar's and the meld, they dont kno whether to nuke there or 40 feet away, the annoyance factor of the brood's webs.

THE ULTI,MELD are awesome

I think 15 mana cost for trap is a joke. They might've forgot a 0 at the end of it at least!

IMO she is the best-early hero because of 3rd skill. Get 2 Refraction ,2 Psiblade , 1 Meld, 1 Psyonic Trap, she is able to clear whole group of creeps just by few hit.The most terrific thing is no one dares to stay behind creeps line cuz they get hit too ! Psi Blades OWNS !!!

IMBA, bonus damage, protection for 20 seconds, low manacost, and same cooldown and duration.
Psionic Trap too, huge casting range, low manacost and cooldown.
And those Psi Blades, splash damage is the holy grail for ranged heroes. She basically gets the perk of being ranged, but also gets one of the few things that gave melee heroes one of if not the only advantage they have over ranged heroes.
These new heroes are pretty imba.

I was playing her the other day and a good item build is treads, hood of defiance (make sure to get early on as when you stay in meld you can regen like nothing, dagon 1 and buriza. At this point no one was willing to fight without wards near by. Her trap should be used on the chase as she can cast it way in advance of the heros path so they are in constant slow.
Ability wise you should make sure to get psi blades, and then swap between meld and refraction until you get your dagon. Hurass meld attack dagon. Easy kills if your not fighting Dragon knight. Very nice

Templar is extremely deadly early game in ganks with refraction (I can't think a reason not to get it first). But I just played against Leshrac and got owned. 3 of his spells can damage Templar when she use meld. Plus Templar's low hp, no chance against Leshrac. NEVER pick Templar against Leshrac! imba hero otherwise though.

i don't think lanaya is weak at all... meld and refraction can get you kills esp. in early games where hp's and damages are low. you dont have to worry about spell nukes aswell coz of refraction. her ulti's castable ahead of her and can be triggered right after. not bad for chasing run aways with a 10 second cool down and low mp cost. i suggest butterfly and buriza will really go well with this hero.. get your kills real fast and stealthy, tenchu style..

AoE spells are somethin to worry abt though.. but laguna blade, finger of death??

i think if u are going to max meld, u MUST max psi blades. meld with 130 range is pretty crappy.

refreaction alone makes this hero incredible. 6 attacks do anothing, AND an extra 60 damage for 20 seconds? she's a solo goddess.

Meld is a bad escape skill, if you rely on it to get you out of trouble, chances are you'll get killed. Best way to use meld is to predict where a hero is gonna stop, hide there, wait 12 secs, drop a double meld on them for 400 dmg.

Refraction actually blocks ANY damage, including spells. I went solo against tiny and it kept blocking the damage from avalanche.

Psi blades seem a little buggy, sometimes they splash, sometimes they don't. Any tips on how to get them to work constantly?

Psi blades works well. An enemy unit must be "behind" your target. not behind on the left or right. Behind. Staright line. Excellent for farming. Plus, if you align yourself perfectly, you'll hurt enemy heroes easily.

it's really stupid to under estimate this hero... lanaya's refraction is just insane. for an escape mechanism, try not to use meld or get lothar's edge for that matter. i cant emphasize this more than enough, you will get pawned when playin with pros. why? no brainer, you have meld which is like a mini vendetta. your enemies are 100% sure to get wards/ gem lest they are also stupid. dagger of escape is the way to go.. use meld offensively and wisely. psi blade is a good farmin skill but sometimes it doesnt trigger even if your opponent is right behind the creep you're attackin, i wonder why? lastly, i really beg to disagree that psionic trap is a crappy skill. low mana cost, 10 second cool down, spamable, and has an insane castin range (have you tried?). i mean, come on if i have a comment for this hero, id say she's pretty imba. in a deadly way

Bloodseeker owning her early game? Not if she uses Meld and remeld method. She needs SnY early as her hp is super low. Early game, meld near lanes and wait for heroes to get near tower and uses refraction on herself and attack the hero like crazy.

On those opponents that uses wards and gems, you should get wards to destroy their wards and evasion items such as vanguards and butterfly together with your first skill, it is very hard for them to kill you except through AoE dmg. So watch out.

Getting stygain and radiance can own alot of heroes together with meld. It is also a good support hero that can help reduces enemy hero armour, best with ranger heroes or Zeus.

Get vanguards and butterfly instead if they have attacks that can own you.

I've seen her with some great items and she's not bad, but she's no PA either. The problem is getting strong with her early game...

Lothars? I could understand if you want to use it to trick into thinking that you melded and can't flee so they waste around a couple of seconds. You should use meld to assassinate not flee (unless a hero is nearby and is coming towards you).

yea, if you have a gem of true sight, you can see the traps. then, of course, you can see them with sentry wards as well.

Anub'rak,Squee and Spleen
I combined the items from all of those
She needs attack speed, damage and hp to stand mobs.
My build for Lanaya is:
MoM,Butterfly,Radiance,Burizado,SnY,
Boots of Travel

Its quite an odd built...yes it is coz I preferred to farm in early and assassinate the mid and late.Radiance takes care of creeps.MoM for surviving and speed,SnY for HP and MS and AR.
Radiance is for damage but optional
and cud substitute with Lothar's or MKB.

wOOt this is a great hero.
At first I got 0-3 then i built a cristalys and it worked well with psi blades. everytyme i crit while farming with creeps i get plenty of gold. Refraction is a strong skill everytyme sven uses GS i only refrac it.
I think they didn't make the ulti strong(compared to othr ultis)for the reason that her first three skills are already strong. In the end I got a 13-3 record.

to always have good regen and hp for her.
Also Madness increases speed of attack,
so its going to have faster lifesteal .
The main thing is that you can actually take risks with MoM at first and Switch on the Refract this ensures that the next 6 attacks by the opponent are overridden by it.Also use the shortcut key for Triggering Nearest Trap.
And you can always Meld or use Lothar's edge.Then you can actually stack the enemy near our tower .
P.S: Always plant atleast 5 traps per lane behind the opponent like Squee and Spleen.Hotkeys for activating them 1 second before they reach over it.
If they try to escape keep trigerring the
next trap till you finish them with refract.
Meld back if low Hp and start stalking traps for next attack
Try this out!!!...

Always max out Refraction and Psionic Blades first but have atleast one Meld.
If you want mor gold in few shots ,align yourself in imaginary line where many enemy
creeps fall in then just activate MoM.
Once the inventory is ready you should own entire waves of creeps.

I think she will be great ally alongside Drow Ranger.

Psi Blades makes her a pretty decent creeper and Refraction is just imba. Blocking single target spells is a snap. I wonder about Pudge's Meat Hook and Rot, though.

She's really strong and I'll gonna use her whenever I play dota and I promise that! But I still need a strategy for her!!

Correction to Psi Blades.
It is not 160 bonus damage, but bonus RANGE. 240 spill, means that the damage will be dealt to units _behind_ the target within 240 range.

otherwise it is VERY important to max refraction. I didnt even realize what it did until my 2nd game with her. Needless to say the first game I did poorly, but the secon,d 8-0. shes a fun hero to play.

2x vanguard is the way to go for sure, combine that with speed items (i.e Assault cuirass/butterfly) and youre money.

Bulking her up is important. Againt peolpe who know what theyre doing, she dies fast, reguardless of refraction/.

youre missing the point of her. Meld is more useful as a way to add damage, not really for hiding. Its an offensive skill with a defensive attitude if u get my drift.

I say you should max Psi blades first... Lanaya is almost a melee attacking unit which makes it hard to use meld if you don't max Psi blades ^^

The invisibility state lasts as long as you don't move. Which means it's indefinite till your attack.

I believe it's there for patience.

Very strong early game character... Seems to be item-dependent in late games, though.

u can still hurt her even if shes invis with meld, just use aoe skills. im not sure if leshracs AoEs work though, cept for the first skill, because u need to target an area.

I prefer only level 1 of her ultimate since you don't need to plant the traps everywhere. It's much more effective if you max out her other skills first. Try putting the traps in front of a fleeing oponent and press 'T', slows the down by alot in which time for you to chase him down to death. The traps have a cast range of like a 1000+

Her skills are so imba such as refraction though it would prove useless if you're surrounded by many. with butterfly / stygian, she is one unstoppable hero..

i still wonder though, whether i should max out

Depend on your enemy hero.Reason why i don't max psi blade first because, if your enemy is melee, then you got 130 range it's good enough;if your enemy is range, evne when u max out psi u got 300 range but it's sitll a SHORT range compare to them. And I usually max out Meld first then refraction. when they push and being push, meld and camp and a place(dun let enemy know, then when they push near you just break out and hit them suddenly 200 is a pain at early, then refraction to boost your atk dmg and block skill then there you go ~ an easy kill. I tried this build million times and works very well...

she eats non-strength heros so fast if they get caught by themselves

played a game with her, had buriza mkb 2x vanguard and travel boots, with refraction she just killed heros with a few hits after using meld on them

id suggest get boots of travel first cuz then u can just meld and wait till its clear and tp to fountain insta heal, very effective ganker

psi blade is only for farming u know. like lunas glaives.

Lol you only have to get wards (+ your good items) to kill her anytime you face her.
I don't think she's imba because of that.
But if you don't have any invi revealing item in 1 v 1, then don't run, don't fight, just close your eyes and rest until you revive.

I max Psi Blades first so you can farm a lot and spam your damage without moving towards the enemy hero by just attacking the leading creeps in a straight line with the hero.

If the Enemy Hero is Ranged, I maxed out Refraction.
But if the Enemy Hero is Melee, I get lvl 2 Refraction and maxed meld.

Either way I get to maxed first Psi blades coz it will give me more possibility to not move while in invi since i got longer range. And you can easily make golds with this coz this skill truly can wipe out an entire wave of creeps.

My items for this hero are Buriza, Butterfly, Treads, EoS.

Having EoS, you truly wont make the enemy hero get away from you and if the enemy hero does get away, you have your back-up plan, plant your trap. then there you go, you go pawn another hero.

And talking about traps, i get only level 1 of them. then i max out the 3 skills first then stats.

I prefer getting BoT than Threads.. Because u dont really need the attack speed coz double meld really hurts (-8 armor + 400 dmg = OUCH!) and if u used her traps properly, u can own most characters... juz use double meld, when they runaway (which they will surely do after taking 400dmg) put trap in front of them, u can surely catch up with ur BoT... OWNING!!!


By the way... Desolator+Butterfly works wonders for Lanaya....

Meld isnt really imba... U can still hurt using AoE skills... in 5-5 games, when my opponent picks Lanaya, I pick DarkSeer... He can really trash Lanaya.. With his AoE Vacuum... He can break ur meld, refraction would be useless bcoz of his Ion Shell, and Lanaya will have a hard time cathing up even if she uses her traps bcoz Darkseer has Surge (522 MS) and he'll juz runaway like flash...

Lanaya is awesome if you know how to use her. Awesome for farming. By level 10 you are farming like a maniac. I normally max Meld first it's a wicked move. Just stick in a lone gaining xp and wait for the hero to come....Refrection = gg. My build is...
1. Power Treads
2. Desolater or Mjollnir
3. Butterfly
4. Buriza
That's all you really need...But you could fill up with more damage items if you need it. Doubt it.

I swear i read through a lot of these comments saying that Meld is IMBA has anyone used the character. Meld is okay at best because of her short range. if any of her skills are imba most deffinately would be Refraction. Makes her invulnerable for 6 hits while adding 80 damage for six hits. Ridiculous this char can 1v1 any1 easily as far as meld goes techies is the answer. her refract absorbs the damage from mines but if she melds just place landmines under her she cant move and if she casts refract she comes out of meld easy answer. as far as items go watch for my strat for her i wrote it a week or two ago hopefully they will realize they havent put one up for her yet and approve it.

Eventhough she is low hp, but with refration she is a little tanker ...

Omnislash hits you for x number of slashes, plus bonus slashes from the atack speed of Yurnero, so refraction will cancel out part of the damage.

hmmm... maybe a counter to juggernaut then. but im not so sure about Bladefury. Bladefury is an AoE attack so it may still hurt her in Meld form and im sure Refraction only blocks targetted spells.

the ulti IS weak. can only be used to block off escape routes, but the trick is to get behind them first to block off exits, then block off all the side exits, then create blocks on all exits after those exits. they only need to go through maybe 2-3 obstacles if u plant it at all possible exits (assumin u hav lvl 3 ulti). plus, they dont get autotriggered, u need to trigger them each manually. u can escape her by usin lothars edge, she cant see u therefore she doesnt know when to activate the traps. also if a person is slowed, they can use lothars edge to flee with 7 seconds invisibility.

nice guide..one question..is her traps like goblins techiques mines? if you walk over them do you become slow? or are they like remote mines that you have to detonate?

Too imba against most heroS.. Unless they get gem or lots of wards.. But radiance owns her.. Refract stops six damages.. Those are countered by radiance...

Meld works in this way.. You Meld and stay in the same place for as much time as you want.. It synergies wid psi blades as your range ll improve.. Low cool down means you can double Meld an opponent .. Though mana might be a problem.. Early game Meld trick.. When your creeps have gone upto opponent tower.. Just fall a bit back and move outside the range of hero to the area where you predict the next creep wave fight ll take place.. and Meld just in the place you feel the opponent hero would stay to get experience.. Wait for hero .. Attack and refract and keep attackin .. Late gameS.. Wid team battles just stay in behind the tank.. Meld hit refract and click Meld again if cool down over.. Gg.. Aoe stun are worst enemies..

i wish lanaya's range would improve.
even though you maxxed out her psi blades her range isn't that much. she's strong but if she could have much better range she could be much better to use. because her defense is very weak its very hard to fight other long range enemies at the beggining of the game.

even though her range was poor. she's very strong with her abilities to upgrade her damage and with her traps to slow her enemies down.

skills like poison, hunger, etc will go through refract, as will most spells in general. lvl 4 meld DOES NOT stack with deso, so only get it to lvl 3. traps are easily used while chasing, simply place one infront of the person your chasing, which should be easy since they have huge cast radius, and a big slow radius, then press 't' to set it off. t as soon as you cast it, and just repeat until theyre dead. Meld isnt the greatest skill around, never just sit around. only stay in one spot, AoE will pwn you.

Hard-to-use hero. Basically her skills reflect her name: Assassin. Many of her skills are ideally for 1v1 battles. Plant psionic traps where you think the unsuspecting fool will come, Meld to become invisible, Refraction for bonus assassin dmg. I believe Psionic traps also have a limited use as wards.

I'm not a fan of assassin heroes (other than anubarak) so i liave you to figure out what items to buy for her.

I've tried a crit build for TA, refract doesn't multiply :(

Skadi is sweet for TA, especially considering I've fed for the early game still make a comeback worth remembering thanks to Skadi

I like Lothars because you can WW, sneak up to someone, meld... attack, meld... attack.

PSI BLADES IS LOVE! 240 spill is more than it seems, even if the area isn't that large. You can make quick work of lines of lane creeps or neutral creeps if u angle it right. 100% SPILL!

in my opinion this hero is great on 1on1s or even in team games...my item build for her is MoM,BoT,,lothars,butterfly...MoM is great when the enemy is running or attacking coz refraction blocks damage for 6instances+additional of 60 damage at lvl 4..meaning no additional damage(caused by the berserk of MoM) for 6instances and more damage on the enemy(not to mention the life steal)...when running MoM has a boost on her MS + her ulti...u can actually run-meld on the enemy lothars(optional,coz it can be countered w/ a cheap item called gem of true sight../sigh) is for surprising and hiding combined w/ meld...BoT&Butterfly

i think d reason they didn't put to much range to her is because of her meld ability... meld will be to much to handle if she has about 400-600 range... meld+psyblades 290 range can already hurt... meld let it cool down be sure d hero is in your range atk meld atk and thats 400 dmg minus armor... psy blades is a must 2 make meld effective...

Dark seer, Crix, And Leshrac are her only real enemies.

That damn meld, with refract on deals like 400 damage. She killed my silencer who was at about 750 life in 3 hits with refract on, she was already melded, she attacked, melded again, attack, and then chased me down.

Plus she can control an entire lane, and 2 even with her ulti (2 lanes is hard, but with traps at max rank I've seen it done).

Juggernut is a huge pain if your lanaya because of his spin.

Yea, DESOLATOR ftw, because of her armour (-ve) attacks she pwns against int heroes with her attack speed involving her MKB next. Get treads. No need 4 a butterfly til l8 game because of her ability to kill opponents fast. Then get butterfly or Hyperstone though Butterfly is more affective because of the damage evasion and agility bonus. DONT BUY TANK ITEMS EARLY GAME! (This will definetly screw up your team's chances of winning. (if only she had a melee attack with a bash lol.) gg

Meld is useless with psi-blades. Refraction and psi-blades is a must for escaping and farming early. Max them out before maxing out meld.

stacking meld with basilus is brokenish, but I keep trying to do it too often.
1 hit killing centaur is hilarious though.

basilus breaks ur invis, but not ur meld, however if you break invis and then re-apply meld then you have 2 melds at once. This stacks indefinitely.
When you hit it will only say you did one meld of damage, but you can tell by enemy's health that this is not the case.

Great hero ! The moment I purchased vanguard + refraction(skill) on early game, I seem like immortal. ha ha! and don't forget Lanaya have Meld skill which is very deadly. haha. i like all her skill. ulti is very nice with low mana cost and rapid cooldown.

Basically a hero not for beginners...since you had to be quick, fast an accurate with this hero. Timing is everything on this one. But pratice won't hurt anyway ^^

only way to play this hero smart is to get ring of regen very quick and dip to a lane quick b4 anyone gets there and hide so ur enemies dont know ur there but other than that i have nvr EVER seen anyone good with this girl EVER! every time i fight her or go against her she will die so much that she just feeds like crazy^^ fo my team with nightstalker i will pwn her any time of day, too easy to kill and spells are not as good as they sound...... i played her once and im nvr playing as her again. this is the ONLY hero in dotA that im not good with, against pros at least....

if they run then oh well, just trap thembc u can cast it in front of them n then set it of bc it'll be the closest one considering ur running towards it. if they turn around and attack instead, just activate refraction u get 6 hit that do ZERO DAMAGE. just keep attacking bc they have low armor they will probably try to run again or if they try to kill u... meld's cooldown should have refreshed. n then just meld n attack right next to em n keep attacking or just do the 1st steps aftr waiting a while for refration to refresh if u wanna be safe
also the traps have such a low cooldown that u can spam them in front of u or behind u for getaways

but ya KrayZspYne, lanaya is good. use laelions strategy but dont get vanguard just get stouts n then if u have money from all the kills u have, then get vanguard plus image ppl suck balls when ur in their lane but getting a long range enemy isnt as bad as u think =]

btw in version 6.49c, lanayas meld doesnt stack for 400 dmg it was an exploit n now its fixed so shes not as godlike ne more... but then again i never stacked em bc i dont play they "shy" lanaya. i play the ima-run-up-in-ya-face-n-f**k-ya lanaya

Lanaya is so easy to counter... but she is a late gamer. early game just need to farm well. heroes like Lina Inverse,Death Prophet, Lightning Revenant, or with Heroes with Aoe Skillscan pawn her easily in early game.

@ikaris alright i take back everything i said bout her being bad ^^ i tried using her yesterday in a random match just cuz i was bored and wow... lawlz against clinkz, that was funny, all i really had to do was hide next to him and he'd stand there like an idiot and i just attacked him with blades range thing, plus 200 damage.... wow i'll say i nvr even had to use my ult ever in that whole game, my team consisted of techies, lanuya me, tiny, razor, and rhasta... funny stuff and even greater we were up against all intel heros, to make it better i ksed a lot too ^^ finally i nvr died once but just the fact that they constntly attacked the spot where u hide all i had to do was buy othars and it was funny watching them attack thin air anyways ya everyone that ive seen play as her nvr win but dam i pwned face . get RoR early and either boots or clarity potoins and all u gotta do is dip to the start line early so no one knows ur there and then u can straight pwn them once u get hide up to lvl 3 and blades lvl 2 specially someone like pugna, anyways ya i had to test her one last time and i was def happy with results, and her ult btw is amazing even tho i nvr used it in that match ^^

oh one more thing, TECHIES!!! they will UBERly stomp ur face in early if ur using her so stay away from them, they just plant mines next to u and one mine will take u half hp left or if they are stupid they can just run up to u and blow up and kill u... i just thought about this strategy so now i got all this down ^^

Kill roshan in one hit? You need to max out meld, then buy ring of bacillus and mana regenerating items. you need to be stunned by roshan first then meld and w8 for him to turn his back. Then just use bacillus ring then meld again. After about 50 charges you can kill him.

OMG!! they increased cd on trap to 14sec in the new version, 6.50.
it was so annyoing i coudnt use traps as many times as i wanted to..

i only use 1 item for her. RING OF BASLIUS. Why, try clicking meld and basilius alternatly without moving. Keep doing it until your bored then attack an hero or roshan on your place without moving. Defenitely 1 hit. ahihihi

this hero is super IMBA, but only if u can use her properly... i watch championship replays quite often, and i saw this guy using lanaya, killing most of the enemy heroes with only 2 hits each...

*key to pawnage: a dagger & a desolator
this is how he played:
1. activate refraction
2. lay trap below target hero
3. detonate
4. blink to the target's side
5. meld, then directly attack for the effect
6. see how ridiculous is the damage
7. attack again (just once more to pawn int heroes)

i suggest wen killing a hero use the double meld trick first u must activate meld den w8 4 the culdown nd wen an enemy hero comes near atak it nd use meld again 4 another atak
