Paris Stillthought - The Mesmerizer
Range: 600 | Move Speed: 300
Primary: INT
Str: 20 + 2 | Agi: 16 + 1.5 | Int: 22 + 2.6
Damage: 43 - 47 | HP: 530 | Mana: 286
HP Regen: 0.85 | Mana Regen: 0.89
Attack Speed: 1.4 | Armor: 2
The mind is the most important weapon for any warrior, no matter how big a sword they carry. Knowing this, Wastrel has devoted his life to master the art of mind alteration. He has taught but a few bright students to specialize in these magics to give an upper hand to the Sentinel. By teaching them how to alter perceptions and use the enemy's mind against them, the now old mage has trained 4 adept wizards of the mind and has sent them into battle. Paris manipulates mana and spells to turn them against his enemies. Mana is seemingly attracted to him and seeps out of his surroundings to aid him in battle. Many consider his tactics illogical because he often replenishes his opponent's mana and sometimes deals damage to his allies; he must have a good reason for doing so...
Aneurysm Aneurysm (R)
Paris sends his energy through the enemy, increasing the amount of mana they have. The sudden increase overloads the brain and deals damage for every point of mana recovered by this spell
Level 1 - Target regains up to 50 mana and takes 2 damage per point of mana recovered
Level 2 - Target regains up to 100 mana and takes 2.2 damage per point of mana recovered
Level 3 - Target regains up to 150 mana and takes 2.4 damage per point of mana recovered
Level 4 - Target regains up to 200 mana and takes 2.6 damage per point of mana recovered
This spell does not activate if the target has full mana
Mana Cost: 75/150/225/300
Cooldown: 30
Framework: A purple burst over the target's head
Notes: The damage is quite severe but the target gets bonus mana out of it so the trade off is not as imbalanced as it seems
Wastrel Wastrel's Worry (W)
A mass of energy starts to build inside the target's head. The inactivity of the target only helps the mass to grow, until it finally bursts and causes extreme pain. If the target attacks or casts a spell, the mass disappears and nothing happens
Level 1 - Does nothing for 4.5 seconds, then deals 90 damage
Level 2 - Does nothing for 3.5 seconds, then deals 120 damage
Level 3 - Does nothing for 2.5 seconds, then deals 150 damage
Level 4 - Does nothing for 1.5 seconds, then deals 180 damage
The spell is cancelled if the target attacks another unit or casts a spell. This spell's damage is pure
Mana Cost: 60/70/80/90
Cooldown: 5/4/3/2
Framework: There is no visible mark on the target until the damage is dealt, at which point you see one of those "true sight" eyes over their head showing they took damage from the spell
Notes: The cooldown and manacost are so low because it is so easy to counter this spell. The damage is also quite low
Channeling Channeling ()
Every time Paris casts a spell, he steals mana from every enemy in an AoE around him that has mana and gains mana for every other enemy in the AoE
Level 1 - Steals 10 mana from every foe with mana and gains 2 mana for every foe with no mana in a 500 AoE
Level 2 - Steals 20 mana from every foe with mana and gains 4 mana for every foe with no mana in a 600 AoE
Level 3 - Steals 30 mana from every foe with mana and gains 6 mana for every foe with no mana in a 700 AoE
Level 4 - Steals 40 mana from every foe with mana and gains 8 mana for every foe with no mana in a 800 AoE
steals mana from enemies that have mana (neutrals, ranged creeps, heroes, summoned units) and gains mana for each enemy that does not have mana (neutrals, melee creeps, summoned units)
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: N/A
Framework: every time he gains mana this way, blue light shines above the enemies' heads and above Paris's head
Notes: Example: if there are 2 units around Paris that have mana and 3 units that do not have mana, the 2 units with mana will each lose 40 mana and Paris will gain (2*40) + (3*8) = 80 + 24 = 104 mana in total. Keep in mind that most waves (with 1 hero) have 2 units with mana and 3 units without mana. It doesn't give much mana, but you end up spending less mana on your spells
Fragility Fragility (F)
If the unit with Fragility is targeted by a spell from another hero (allied or enemy), that spell's effect on the target is cancelled and the target loses hp and mana from Fragility instead. Can be cast on allies and enemies.
Level 1 - Lasts 5 seconds, lose 200 hp and 100 mana
Level 2 - Lasts 10 seconds, lose 300 hp and 150 mana
Level 3 - Lasts 15 seconds, lose 400 hp and 200 mana
If a spell is cast on a hero under the effect of Fragility, the caster of the spell still activates his spell (his mana is used up and the spell is in cooldown) but the spell has no effect on the target. Instead, it loses hp and mana because of Fragility.
Mana Cost: 200/300/400
Cooldown: 60
Framework: the target has a white tint to imitate glass. When the damage is dealt, a burst of glass (looks like ice) explodes on the target. Works the same way as Linken's sphere by cancelling a spell, but removes hp and mana afterwards
Notes: Useful to deny another hero or to suicide. Great against healers. If no spell is cast on the target within the duration, the cooldown is halved

Discussion:

Some of you will notice that I have been inspired by Guild Wars. Most of the spells have been taken directly from the game and have been adapted and changed slightly to fit DotA guidelines. I took all the skill icons from the actual game (although they don't all correspond to the appropriate spell :P ). I hope you all enjoy!

Please check out the rest of my Mesmer-themed heroes if they've been accepted:

Sonja Goldwhisper - The Illusionist Sonja Goldwhisper - The Illusionist

Alastair - The Splicer Alastair - The Splicer (accepted)

Cypher - The Dominator Cypher - The Dominator (accepted)

Skill discussion:

Aneurysm This spell can  ultimately help your enemy but is a definite killer if they have low mana and hp. Since mana is not as important as hp, it is a favorable trade off for you, although it is quite useless against healers.

Wastrel A spell that can be cast often, but that fails just as often. It deals no damage in the heat of battle. This spell is good for chasing heroes and sneaking up on wandering foes. Cast this spell often to take advantage of Channeling.

Channeling Great way to ensure that you always have mana at your disposal.

Fragility This spell can render some of your allies' weak spells very strong, and your enemies' powerful spells very weak. Good spell to deny allied heroes and kill yourself. This spell works wonders against healers, cancelling their heal and hurting the target further. Fragility is not triggered by lasting AoE spells that deal damage, passive abilities (like Storm Seeker and Counter Helix) and is not triggered by any orb effects.

Skill build:

  1. aneurysm
  2. channeling
  3. wastrel's worry
  4. aneurysm
  5. channeling
  6. fragility
  7. aneurysm
  8. channeling
  9. wastrel's worry
  10. wastrel's worry
  11. fragility
  12. aneurysm
  13. channeling
  14. wastrel's worry
  15. stats
  16. fragility
  17. stats - 25.

Getting all spells equally is probably your best bet. Having one level of Wastrel's Worry gives you a low costing spell that you can use to deal damage with your ult.

Skill synergy:

Aneurysm  Channeling

By using spells to steal mana, you increase the effectiveness of Aneurysm when you cast it. The more mana the target is missing, the more damage you will deal, so keep on stealing that mana!

Wastrel  Channeling

Wastrel's Worry is pretty much the spell that lets you gain all that mana. It can be cast often and even though it will most likely be cancelled, you will end up with more mana than you started with so you win either way :) Taking their mana also increases the chance that they will not be able to interrupt Wastrel's Worry with a spell.

Fragility  Wastrel  Aneurysm

Use your ult on an enemy then cast Wastrel's Worry to deal the damage. After they lose the 200 mana, cast Aneurysm to deal even more damage. If you have time, cast Wastrel's Worry again since they will most likely be running away. You will end up doing a LOT of damage.

Fragility  Wastrel

Since Wastrel's Worry deals so little damage, Fragility can replace the damage that it would cause and will guarantee that there will be damage dealt to the enemy. Instead of giving the opportunity to the enemy to attack or cast a spell, they will immediately take damage from Fragility

Item build:

Boots of Travel Good for catching up to your opponents and teleport to be everywhere at once

Manta Style Drain even more mana to be able to use Aneurysm more often

Orchid Malevolence Silence your opponent so he can take damage from Wastrel's Worry

Refresher Orb Fragility is a good damaging spell and since you have so much mana, this item should be easy to use

Eye of Skadi Adds good damage and stats, great for ranged heroes

Mekansm Good way to spend your mana since you have so much, good to heal you and allies too (obviously)

Best allies:

Ezalor - The Keeper of the LightMagina - The Anti-MageLion - The Demon WitchAnub`arak - The Nerubian Assassin

Mana drainers will help you to cast Aneurysm

Bone Clinkz - The Bone FletcherAiushtha - The EnchantressNortrom - The SilencerHuskar - Sacred WarriorRigwarl - The BristlebackTraxex - The Drow RangerAnub`seran - The Nerubian WeaverHarbinger - The Obsidian Destroyer

Heroes with generally weak spells that can be cast often to use Fragility well

Worst allies:

Strygwyr - The BloodseekerAkasha - The Queen of PainLucifer - The Doom BringerRotund`jere - The NecrolyteMogul Khan - The AxeLion - The Demon WitchHuskar - Sacred WarriorLina Inverse - The Slayer

Heroes with powerful spells that would do more damage than your Fragility would

Worst enemies:

The opposite of whatever was mentionned above. The Best allies would become worst enemies because they can counter your Fragility if you cast it on yourself. Just like the Worst enemies would be the best enemies since you will greatly lower the damage and effects done by their ultimates.

Kardel Sharpeye - The Dwarven SniperMeepo - GeomancerHarbinger - The Obsidian DestroyerRazor - The Lightning RevenantLion - The Demon WitchJah’rakal - The Troll WarlordEzalor - The Keeper of the Light

Heroes that don't lack much mana or who don't use mana very often can counter Aneurysm more easily

Chen - The Holy KnightAiushtha - The EnchantressHuskar - Sacred WarriorPurist Thunderwrath - The OmniknightRotund`jere - The NecrolyteAbaddon - The Lord of AvernusDemnok Lannik - WarlockDazzle - Shadow Priest

Vol`Jin - The Witch Doctor

Healers can take advantage of the mana you give them to heal themselves or others, thus wasting Aneurysm. Although they are the best targets for Fragility because then they cannot heal themselves.

Ish~kafel - Dark SeerAbaddon - The Lord of AvernusStrygwyr - The BloodseekerAnub`seran - The Nerubian WeaverPugna - The OblivionN`aix - The LifestealerBone Clinkz - The Bone FletcherAkasha - The Queen of Pain

Viper - The NetherdrakeAnub`arak - The Nerubian AssassinBalanar - The Night StalkerKel`Thuzad - The LichMagina - The Anti-MageGondar - The Bounty HunterPuck - Faerie DragonLanaya - Templar Assassin

Raijin Thunderkeg - Storm SpiritAggron Stonebreaker - The Ogre MagiMagnus - The MagnataurAzwraith - The Phantom LancerUlfsaar - The Ursa Warrior

Heroes that become invisible or cast spells on themselves can easily counter Wastrel's Worry but that's not a big problem

46 By HotTamaleTrain 2009-11-07

Using Guild Wars spell icons just screams out LAWSUIT

45 By sandking_ 2009-11-02

this hero is not so good as the othrs. I was wondering if you can make hero for dark and that staff

44 By Ptolemny 2009-11-01

hmmm... wastrels warry seems a bit OP, 'specially against running heroes, as they never really have enough life or attack.the 2 second cooldown is OP, I think if it was kept at 5 seconds it wouldn't be as much... But everything else works fine.

43 By devil4dota 2009-11-01

and what about the purple icons and purple powers..xD..

42 By devil4dota 2009-11-01

nice thinking... but id say the ulti is too imba... its like.. just keep ur ulti on a tanker like axe or centaur and send him into a fight lol ..the damage of 400 he takes at the end would be nothing compared to the amount of damage of spells rejected in those 15 seconds... and also the second power cooldowns too much ...2 seconds for 180 pure damage is insane...

and an excellent ally for him wud be pugna... decriptify... (no attack nor can cast spells) spam ur 2nd and use ur 1st .. insane.

41 By Carryheroesrock 2009-10-23

@the Ronin
yes but also look at the huge manacost of his skills
that balances channeling

40 By The Ronin 2009-10-22

channeling looks too powerful. it provides an excellent lane controlling. your enemies can't even get close. and it provides avoiding ganks. I think this hero is a bit of imba.

39 By PrimEspada 2009-10-17

i will vote fot this hero in next section when Icefrog try to find hero for next future dota

38 By donfanto 2009-10-15

I think that this hero is terribly weak.every second hero can easily beat off crap from this creep. sorry hero

37 By Guthrek 2009-10-11

With those clarifications, I'd say this hero is fucking fantastic. GJ.

36 By PolarTiger 2009-10-10

so if you cast your ulti to an ally with, for example, 300 hp and then lina casts laguna blade, it counts as a deny?? lol this fragility will be the most annoying skill ever...denying allies, stealing kills...lol

35 By PrimEspada 2009-10-10

he is my favorite

34 By cowlickman 2009-10-09

Wastrel's Worry seems to be understood pretty well, it is basically there because it works so well with your other spells.

Now for the ulti; Fragility is only triggered ONCE! Which means that clinkz or traxex will not deal 400 damage every time they attack, it's only the first time. This is why they are good allies and bad enemies.

I might change Fragility to be triggered 3 times and deal 200 damage each time within the duration. This ensures that a spell doesnt accidentally waste it!

33 By cowlickman 2009-10-09

Hey everyone, sorry for the late reply, I haven't been to this site in a while... I will try to shed some light on some of the issues about my hero.

First of all, thank you for all the positive feedback :) I put a lot of hours into my mesmer ideas and I'm glad they are well liked!

Aneurysm restores UP TO 200 mana and deals UP TO 520 damage, kinda like a reverse mana burn (kinda). This is why he needs to be able to steal mana with Channeling, it's a very important synergy.

32 By PrimEspada 2009-10-09

i dun care what they comment but for me i really like this hero, if this hero choose in dota i will play Paris every game
