this is my official entry guide for the dotatactics guide contest. Well to start of my intorduction, huskar is one of my newest favorite hero to use, since all of his skills have great synergy with each other and he has one of the best orb effects in the game with 0 cooldown at level 1, as good as traxex's orb. but IMO is better early game since it has damage over time, which i will explain more in my guide, so lets get it on and grind it down to the guide ^^ i hope you would learn the basics and be a good huskar user with this guide.
Huskar

Huskar - Sacred Warrior

Range: | Move Speed: 300
Primary: STR
Str: 18 + 2.4 | Agi: 20 + 2.4 | Int: 18 + 1.5
Damage: 39 - 48 | HP: 492 | Mana: 234
HP Regen: 0.79 | Mana Regen: 0.73
Attack Speed: 0.75 | Armor: 2
Inner Vitality
Inner Vitality (V)
Magically unlocks the potential regenerative power within a target unit, healing its life force based upon its primary attribute. If the target is below 40% health, it will regenerate faster. Lasts for 16 seconds.
Level 1 - 5(15*)% of main attrib + 2 hp regen per sec.
Level 2 - 10(30*)% of main attrib + 4 hp regen per sec.
Level 3 - 15(45*)% of main attrib + 6 hp regen per sec.
Level 4 - 20(60*)% of main attrib + 8 hp regen per sec.
(*) These values are used if the target is below 40% of its maximum hp.
The hp percentage is checked every second and the regeneration adjusted accordingly.
Casting range: 400
Mana Cost: 170
Cooldown: 25
Comment: One of the best hp regen skill in the game. It depends on the attributes and remaining hp of the target. Great for starting your combo and saving an ally in need, more on this later.

Burning Spear
Burning Spear (R)
Using his own life force to set them aflame, the Sacred Warrior can cause his spears to deal stackable damage over time as they impact the foe. Lasts 6 seconds.
Level 1 - 4 damage per second.
Level 2 - 8 damage per second.
Level 3 - 12 damage per second.
Level 4 - 16 damage per second.
Damage type: magical (target), HP removal (self)
Burning Spears stacks additively when used multiple times on one target. There is no cap.
Casting range: 400
Mana Cost: Health cost: 15
Cooldown: 0
Comment: This IMO is what defines huskar, this will be your bread and butter in the game. its one of the best harrassing skills in early game, it will let you dominate your lane easily if used properly.
Berserker`s Blood
Berserker`s Blood (B)
Huskar feels each of his wounds and channels the pain, increasing attack speed and damage for each 7% missing health. First bonus starts at full health.
Level 1 - 3% IAS and 2 Damage.
Level 2 - 6% IAS and 4 Damage.
Level 3 - 9% IAS and 6 Damage.
Level 4 - 12% IAS and 8 Damage.
There will be a special effect when Berserker's Blood is giving a large bonus (49% missing health).
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: N/A
Comment: its almost a free relic and hyperstone, but with the price of your hp. This skill will make your opponents think twice before encountering you even while having 50% hp.
Life Break
Life Break (F)
Huskar reaches into the well of his own life force to heavily damage an enemy. The target takes damage equal to 50% (65%*) of its hp. Slows target by 50% for 5 seconds. Huskar pays a certain percentage of his hp to cast this.
Level 1 - Huskar pays 35% of his current HP to cast.
Level 2 - Huskar pays 30% of his current HP to cast.
Level 3 - Huskar pays 25% of his current HP to cast.
Damage type: magical (to both Huskar and the target)
Casting Range: 550
Huskar will charge up to his target, becoming magic immune, before doing the effects.
If Huskar is disabled during this charge, or if the distance between Huskar and his target becomes greater than 1400, it stops.
Slow works on magic immune units.
Can be improved by Aghanim's Scepter (* shows the improved values).
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: 40/30/15 (24/16/8*) seconds
Comment: One of the best ulti in the game IMO, it deals 40% hp damage to your opponent and even slows him by 50% for 5 secs. this will help you take down a full hp hero even if its a tank.

Skill Build

{name} - {alias}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHY CHOOSE HUSKAR?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Huskar is one of the best all around hero in my opinion. He has one of the best orb effect skill in the game which many have misunderstood, which I will try to explain briefly in my guide. Huskar is a dps, tank, and support(mid-lategame)hero which is a very rare role in the game for a strength type hero. This hero has many great characteristics which makes him unique than the other ones, He can perform a hero kill even if the target has full hp, he can turn the tides of a battle with his inner vitality, he is one of the best harasser with a orb effect skill that has 0 cooldown and deals damage overtime, he is an item friendly hero, many strength oriented items synergizes very well to him. So enough with the compliments and lets go inside the guide.

Hero Location:

Sentinel-Dawn Tavern

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*PROS AND CONS*

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PROS:

-one of the best harasser (the best IMO) with burning spear

-very item friendly

-great tank and support late game with Inner Vitality

-great dps with Berserker’s Blood

-great ulti that devastates tanks and slows, also has low cooldown(lets you gank 24/7)

-has a role throughout the game

CONS:

-lack of pushing skill

-burning spear looses effectivity lategame

-ulti needs to be casted near the enemy

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*STARTING INVENTORY*

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 vs 5 game :

Gauntlets of Ogre StrengthGauntlets of Ogre StrengthAncient Tango of Essifation

2 gauntlets of strength and some tangoes.

3 vs 3 game:

4 gauntlets of strength, a stout shield and 3 sets of tangoes(6).

1 vs 1 game:

Power TreadsGauntlets of Ogre StrengthStout ShieldAncient Tango of Essifation

power treads(str), gauntlets, stout shield, and tangoes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Q&A portion*

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Why gauntlets of ogre strength? Why not bracers??

A: Huskar only needs damage and hp boosting items early. I don’t think he will be needing some additional agi or int in his early game.

Q: Whats with the stout shield? are you planning to get a vanguard??

A: nope, the stout shield is actually there to withstand harassment from your lane rival,

I never  opted vanguards to this hero, it will only slow his build which is much more needed later on.

Q: Why buy tangoes?? You already have a hp regen skill!!

A: yes huskar already has a hp regeneration  skill, which depends more on the primary attributes of the target. Which in the early game is still low, tangoes are much practical IMO. You wouldn’t want to delay your Burning spear and berserker’s blood which is much needed in lane dominance.

Tip:

Ancient Tango of EssifationBurning Spear=Harassment / possible early kill

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Lane Scenarios*

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Against-

1 melee hero- This is your best scenario, you have the range advantage and a orb effect skill with 0 cooldown, abuse it!. Harass him as often as you can. If you ever harassed him to half his hp, try to orb walk him to death, if he stays and fight be happy cause you’ll be having your early kill.

1 ranged hero- almost as good as the first scenario, though theyre not that easy to harass because of range, but they will feel each burning spear heavily, since all of the range heroes are frail early except for you, cause you’re the only ranged strength type hero.

2 melee heroes- there is really no problem in this scenario, just use your range and harass them, focus on harassing, denying and last hitting and your gonna get them to a big level gap. Though be aware of melee heroes with nukes.

2 ranged heroes- this would be challenging just deny and last hit as you can, then harass them if possible(if they get to close). Just play safe and you will establish a level advantage over them.

1 ranged and 1 melee hero- as always, last hit and deny, I prefer harassing the melee type and make him use all his tangoes or other healing items.

Lane scenario conclusion:

As you can see, Huskar doesn’t really have lots of problems in handling a lane, since he can easily dominate it with his easy to use harassing skill.

*Early Game Skill Build*

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Huskar’s early game starts at level 1 and ends at level 7)

level 1 - burning spear

level 2 – berserker’s blood

level 3 – burning spear

level 4 – berserker’s blood

level 5 – burning spear

level 6 – life break

level 7 – burning spear

Burning Spear Burning spear: This skill is learned first to abuse its usefulness early in the game, as you have seen in the skill description once you cast it, it will deduct 15 hitpoints from you,  and yes there is no mana used and best of all it has 0 cooldown, which means you can spam it as long as you have more than 100hp and stacks upto 5 times, That would be 180 dps not counting huskar’s normal damage.

i.e. huskar has 50 damage and has successfully stacked 5 burning spears, that would be 250 + 180 = 430 damage at level 1, that would be devastating to any hero at an early level, and at level 4 burning spear you’ll be dealing 360 dps not including huskars normal damage. This skill also helps you trigger your berserker’s blood for more additional damage and iaspd.

Berserker`s BloodBerserker’s blood: as mentioned in the skill description it increases your attack speed and damage for every 7% of your hp that has been lost, which has a maximum of 7 bonuses and starts at full health. Which means that you will be receiving full effects of this skill when you have lost 42% of your hp, at level 1 you will be gaining 14%IAS and 14 damge at full effects(58%hp) this skill will turn you into a monster dps. And at level 4 berserker’s blood you’ll be receiving 56%IAS and 56 damage!, yes it’s a hyperstone and almost a sacred relic which some of the people don’t realize.

Life Break Life Break: as said in the skill description, it takes away 40% of the remaining hp of your target and slows it for 5 seconds by 50%, that would be enough time to stack some burning spears to the target, it doesn’t cost any mana though it will deduct 40%/33%/25% of your remaining hp, this means that if you use your life break at level 1, you will be receiving the full effects of your berserker’s blood (actually you still have 2% of your hp to loose for it take in full effects but casting burning spear will fill it out)

(The only problem with this skill is you have to cast it near your target, which is hard to do since your opponent wouldn’t want to be life breaked, the best thing to do is to hide in the fog of war and approach your target unexpectedly or simply ask an ally that has a stun or disable to help you out.)

*EARLY GAME OBJECTIVES*

-Last hit and deny creeps.

-Harass your lane rival with burning spears while waiting for creeps to have red hp.

-Establish a level gap.

-Stay in your lane as much as possible to acquire exp.

-If your opponent is foolish enough to go close to you at half hp, orb walk him to death.

-Use your ulti if you think that you can net a kill, (don’t be confident make sure that the target cannot retaliate and turn the tide of the situation, if he has a stun or disable check his mana pool first, if he has enough mana for a stun or disable don’t use your ulti.)

*ENDING INVENTORY*

Boots of SpeedOgre AxeStout ShieldGauntlets of Ogre StrengthGauntlets of Ogre StrengthGauntlets of Ogre Strength

-The boots of speed is there for extra movespeed – movespeed is definitely one of the needs of an effective orbwalker.

-The ogre axe is bought to get ready for your Black King Bar.

-The stout shield and gauntlets are still there from your starting Inventory.

*ITEM PRIORITIES*

Power Treads - If ever you are facing heroes which doesn’t have disables or stuns I suggest you rush for this. Though most of the times a boots of speed is enough and rushing black king bar is still the best way to go.

Black King Bar - This is your core item IMO, you should definitely rush for this. The Black king bar makes you immune to almost any magical spells, thus making you almost invulnerable to nukers, making them easy prey.

Tip: The black king bar also makes you immune to the hp deduction from your ulti, though the problem is it wont synergize very well with your berserker’s blood since you wont get the sudden burst of additional attackspeed and damage, but that wouldn’t be much of a problem your orbwalk will suffice for that.

Also, no matter how old the guide is, ARMLET IS NOT SITUATIONAL!

496 By ripguns21 2012-04-30

Huskar with lifesteal IS amazing. Just don't skill orb at all, if not, get one level of it and you're good to go.

495 By kfjfkli 2012-04-30

YES I AGREE HUSKAR WITH LIFESTEAL IS AMAZING. hehehe

494 By woodstock school 2011-06-01

@490
it depends... it does upgrade your ultimate by increasing the amount of damage you do and cooldown ext but you have to get it early. late or mid game you would be much better off buying a HoT or an eaglehorn (for the dodge and attack speed)

493 By FL4SH_l3URN 2011-03-30

I would advise getting two levels of burning spears at lvls 1 & 3 and berserkers blood the rest. You can easily orb walk any hero to death and even kill a hero in 3 hits with low hp at level 7.

Lifesteal is a huge help to him being a maximum dps monster. Just having vitality will usually not cut it and you die very quickly. Having lifesteal means more regen at low hps so as you do more dmg to your opponent, you heal yourself even more. (This is what lets a lvl 8 huskar get a triple kill).

492 By ShurikenOo 2011-02-26

All I hear is IMO IMO IMO IMO IMO IMO IMO IMO IMO. Stop using little kiddie like abbreviations.

491 By skullie69 2010-12-14

I have to say... Dont agree with guide. Husk is an excelent farmer... I solo him in start and get as soon as possible a bird. I only upgrade berserkers blood and inner vitality with ulti as soon as possible and no burning spears. The reason is simple. If you get lifesteal asap you can easily own. With the added spead and damage from berserkers blood even pudge is no match one on one if he solo. Try it, it works. The rest i get helm then mkb then satanic then buriza and assult if need. :)

490 By junweii96 2010-12-12

Would a Aghanim's Scepter be a good item for Huskar?

489 By Noo=b 2010-11-02

488...
percentage is too little diff for the time and gold spent on that item
getting a better dps item or a black-king bar is better

488 By nobody960814 2010-11-02

@bribe not really, you forgot to consider magic resistance. with magic resistance, life break with aghanim's deals 48.75% of the target's hp. assuming the target was at full health, level 3 reaper's scythe with aghanim's deals 40.21875% after a life break, if the opponent doesn't regen.

that's just 88.96875% of the target's max hp. granted, that's still a lot, but it won't instagib. should the "hardcore carry" get hood, the effects would be pathetic.

487 By hagrid952 2010-10-19

and then ppl will get linkens to block off huskar's ulti

486 By Bribe 2010-10-19

Instant kill combo early game is:
Life Break + Culling Blade
Late game, when either you or Necro gets Scepter, instant kill on any heroes become:
Life Break (Takes 65% of max hp) + Reaper's scythe (1.1 damage for each point of life missing). So basicaly you could face 100 000hp enemy (not kinda possible but its an example), with necro its instant kill. They are having one hardcore carry and they pwn u all cuz of him? Combo and he is dead :)

485 By windwaker 2010-10-01

against "worst enemies":yup permabashers can be owned ans have thier progress slowed early game if you know what you are doing.the DPSers whihc utilizes buffs canbe solved with a simple diffusal blade purge.OD is pretty fragile, just make sure you dont catch its attention when you harass it.most illusions take amplified damage so you can get your orb to "test" on them.you have to watch out for Axe and Necrolyte yourself.axe can take quite a beating but necro is fragile.

484 By Reigarde 2010-09-25

@492, tank means more hp/armour etc . things that allow you to live longer when you get damage .

@483, this guide came out way before aghanim on him did . anyway, aghanim with blink is viable, just make sure you dont blink into situatins you cant come handle.

483 By merigo123 2010-09-25

lol why not mention aghanim's? with it u have an even greater chance of taking a tank out , and it becomes spammable. this could help in battles against more than 1 hero.

482 By nobody960814 2010-09-21

doesn't radiance make him a tank? the point of the tank is to absorb as much damage as possible for the team and while radiance doesn't give survivability, it attracts attention and invites people to hit you instead of your weaker teammates.

481 By themhe 2010-09-15

Armlet will rape with him fs. Get someone on your team to pick omnikight. ;)

480 By ic4three778 2010-09-09

before burning spear's damage cap was removed, no spear build was actually viable.

I got it from Ganksta, and it was actually effective, you'll be unkillable... nearly.

But now that the cap was removed, spear is invaluable to him now, sadly too. lifesteal build was pwnzz.

479 By gonz22 2010-09-08

i barely play dota nowadays.. but if your gonna ask for my item build as of today i would opt for

-phase boots
-HoD(pipe) / vanguard(for newbies)
-dagger
-BKB
-HoT
-any item you prefer but i reserve it for a TP scroll
or just save it for buy outs
