Good guide. Although you could've gotten at least 1 level of Smoke Screen early as an anti-harrassing spell. The permabash idea looks promising, I may try it out myself.

it looks good i have never tried it before but i always max backstab first it helps in farming a lot and u didnt talk about the ugly gem in ur strat this makes u useless if its hold by astrong opponent

Boots first is not viable as you will not be able to last hit at all. Get a RoR, ironwood branches and Tangos as you just will be crushed. Also level 1 cloud is invaluable especially if you're laning with someone, it at least provides cover seeing as you won't be helping with harassing whatsoever.

I actually prefer Skadi with SA over Maim because it's more reliable and the slow stacks nicely in cloud.

MoM? I would think a Yasha is much more valuable as backstab is based off of your agility. I understand why you get mom, but when you aren't in cloud you are risky too much survivability with your low HP.

Bashers, are an interesting choice, problem is once again, you're buying pure damage, not agility + damage which is a 3 for 1.

Butterfly basically is the most essential item on SA, it gives attack speed, damage(twice over), and evasion which stacks in cloud.

I understand why people like certain items but why not play to your hero's strengths while covering weaknesses?

Try this build and let me know what you think:
RoR, Boots, Wraith Band x 3, Boots of Travel, Yasha, Skadi, Butterfly, then perhaps add a basher if people are still somehow getting away, or more attack speed.

i think skadi is more useful than 2 bashers.... anyway nice guide...

Guys, as I said before, EoS is far too expensive to buy straight after SnY. The bashers suffice, and quite frankly, I've never stretched a game long enough to have to replace them with Skadi :).
As for MoM vs SnY, the trick is they both heavily boost my movespeed. The other things are kinda extra.

I would never get EoS for Riki, S&Y+smoke+blinkstrike should be enough for you to keep up with anybody. EoS money can be better spent on dps items to help you kill them faster. Oh and nice guide.

Weeeeell, not ANYONE, what about, say, Night Stalker, Slardar w/ sprint, or Banehallow w/ Shapeshift? To be honest, anyone with BoT can put on quite a chase, having the extra edge is always nice, really.

Hah. I find wards easy to counter, you can move to another lane or something, and come back in 6 minutes. A gem means the person should be ganked, simple.
Oh, and like I said, if someone is getting countermeasures for SA, its because you've become a real problem :D

good guide... ur beginning is kind of weak though, you will get ganked a lot in the beginnin if ur playin someone who can windwalk, u should play defensively in the beginning, ur strategy is too aggressive and ur puttin urself in a sink or swim situation. i always try to get smokescreen first, whats the point in havin blink early if u dont deal that much damage and can get easily ganked?
i like the late game though, but i think it would be really hard to even get to late game with such a weak starting.

I find that blinkstrike works well with early kills, you won't be able to stitch together a kill by yourself at this point but you can pick up a fleeing enemy this way.

Yeah I know. I don't actually use blinkstrike on creeps much, I put it in because of the other guides :). You're absolutely right. Don't worry about your guide, they put 'em up eventually.

Instead of wraith bands i get bracers, skipping stats early on and concentrating on blink and backstab. This allows me to comfortably get a yasha first and use backstab to a higher potential! The bashers are an okay idea its just i prefer to maximise backstab with butterflies and other agi items. Good strat anyway, i'll give it a go.

Lol but what is up with the last part? Those characters are hard for everyone lol... the only ones who are SA's real problem are Slardar, Bounty, Strygwyr and Brood. Others are just annoyances for everyone. Good work anyway!

Weeell, I just figure anyone who can damage SA after he tries to flee is a problem. So, Axe is bad news because he can force me to keep attacking, etc.
Oh, and about the Bashers vs Butterflies or something, I did really well in a game and skipped the bashers, and I got thrashed because the guy counterattacked. Having Bashers beats an extra butterfly AND EoS, because the foe CANNOT ATTACK YOU. Pure and simple.

having to butterflys stack giving ,according to my calculator 62.5% evasion (im pretty sure its closer to 47%)
MKB is good for attack speed and damage bonus also ministun to stop the chanelling heros with nasty spells (witch doctor comes to mind) and bruiza because, well it just hurts
this build requires either a money hack or been fed to the max, mot sure if there is a money hack so im afraid you need to be fed.

using blink strike on creeps early game is good and it works but only really needed if you are being harassed because it saves you from running in and garantees a kill, unfortunately very mana intensive.

Bashers r solely for some extra bonus damage dealt and a stun opportunate. I would advice it is ur vs'n tanks or people with really high speed, but thats about it. MBK stun bonus is so gay 0.01, disrupts spells that r bein used though which is good :D like Ezalor, Keeper of the Light skill. how long did it take u 2 get ur guide submitted its like 3 days now.

Thats what Sange is for, and then it'll become S&Y. A Vanguard is generally sold off later too.

Spamming Butterfly is always a good strat, not so much Eaglehorn, its worth the extra cash to get Butterfly. But not Radiance. You need to stay hidden.

u could always get a ward if u get a radiance. radiance defeats the purpose of rikimarus Ulti... i played DotA 6.39 today and smashed loads of n00bz. not with ur strategy though, i used my own :D

Ok guys, back to an earlier issue: Skadi will NOT stack with Maim, therefore no Skadi since I MUST have S&Y.

skadi only dons work wen maim cast and maim is only 10% chance otherwise skadi work on all attacks that dont maim

butterfly is better than radiance for this hero becos... 25% evade, 25% more attack speed, +20 damage and +25 agility whereas radiance is... 8% evade, +70 damage and its got a skill that hurts people every second for 40 seconds, great for farmin but for hero slayin... ur pretty much screwed ur ulti. if my base is about to get destroyed, i would by radiance though mainly just to defend, but id sell it or give it to an ally who needs to farm once ive finished defendin. no point in bein invisible if ur base is gettin screwed and when they push, they come in clusters

I'm sure I said this, if your base is under creep siege, drop a smoker and dice them all. By the way, radiance does 35 immolation as of 6.38, and butterfly does +25 damage as of BEFORE I GOT INTO DOTA.

creep seige is easily countered, but enemy hero seige u might need the radiance

why get bashers? bashers dont give agi,and like you said, backstab wont be good until you actually have agi. when is that? an hour into the game when you finally get bfly?

If you're doing well skip the bashers and go straight butterfly. The thing is, the bashers help lots. Really.

Stacking Butterflies works very well - I mean, its ULTIMATE. Depending on what items you get before the first one, stack two, three, maybe four. If you have four with one spare slot, a Basher would be sweet, considering how much attack speed you have. I don't really think outside the realm of Bashers... well, I think Bashers are unbeaten. This would be something to test yourself, I rarely find myself in games that last long enough for me to stack Butterflies - but it's what I'd do.

I've actually been experimenting lately... lately meaning since I made the guide. Now my skill build is more like BStrike/Smoke/BStrike/Backstab/BStrike/Invisiblity/BStrike, I think I know how to handle it much better now. And I don't bother with Wraith Bands either, and I maximise chicken usage - I get two RoRegen and Boots without losing exp. And yes, I have skipped Bashers without consequence as well. But there was this one game where Bloodseeker on the other side had about 400/500 a hit and I just had the Basher build - he couldn't touch me. So thats still unbeatable. Again, please don't make me say it again! Radiance is not my style! There is very little you could do to make me use Radiance on SA - besides, I bet if I tried to hurt them with that they'd come back with four disables and a ward and wait for me to irk them. Oh, finally... I can't believe a previous SA guide maker would take so long that he only made the 81st comment Thank you though.

A warning for you:
SA is a backstabber and needs to increase his attck movement speed. Adding life and mana is also Vital. Trust me since I teamed up with one and hell did he kill. He had 58 kills in one hour and even when he quit, the enemies still run when it attacks. I suggest A boots of travel, SnY, Buriza, Hyperstone, Manta Style for confusion and an Aegis wouldn't hurt. Anyway nice strat

funny thing is why is every assuming that people will run when they see riki. not the scariest in 1 on 1 early game, but riki can sure kick ass in gang bang. join gang bangs until you can build your wish list. BTW, i like backstab early game because that's his main skill. build alot of wraith bands to add damage to your BS.

Oh, they've made Butterfly better now... 6.42... except I dunno for sure since I've played 6.42 ONCE so far and it was with Techies. Techies w/ Butterfly. Riiiight. Anyway I think its 30 everything now: 30 Agility/Damage/%Attack Speed/%Evasion.

a much better idea is to mass AGI on riki. say thru 2or3 yashas, also get manta. you might want a midas for ias and for money since sa lacks faming skills.

Oh yeah, he definitely lacks farming skills... I shoulda mentioned that SOMEWHERE. Forgive me? Umm, I'd prefer to mass Butterflies, but 2-3 Blades/Yashas would probably work pretty well. The reason for Bashers, which I only use in a close game (Butterflies for total ownage, Bashers for close matches) is that it tends to make them completely helpless, as I've said. The only reasonable way to take out a Bloodseeker with 500 a hit.

That's what's smokescreen is for and with the money ivested on the 2 bashers you could have afforded something like a Divine Rapier which will surely out DPS Bloodseeker.

I don't like Rapier. I only ever get that if I am completely invincible.

Well, theres the thing. What if their side has Faceless Void? You need to be able to deal with him. Huge, unkillable DPS heroes with more items as well. Sny+Bashers+MoM isn't very expensive at all, but it can take out a guy who has full MKBs and Butterflies. And, as mentioned several times in this guide (also see the Naix guide), the Bashers serve to make the target totally and utterly helpless.

ok guide. I'd rather go for 2 or 3 wraist band, then BUTTERFLY around lvl13-16. Then whatever is good for his backstab. dont forget satanic or HoT.

I generally don't get wraiths these days. OR straight boots. I can't believe I was that stupid in fact. Ring of Regen + Chicken -> 2nd Ring, Treads, Yasha, SnY. All that without going to base if you've gotten to lvl6 without harm or stupidity or wards. So you can sit around waiting for red hp creeps - all day. With a Yasha. And a four level advantage.

SnY overrides. 90% chance of lifesteal, 10% chance of Maim. And lots of movespeed and attack speed between them. Again, if you're good enough it doesn't particularly matter what items as long as it works. This is just one thing that works. Likewise with the Bashers.

...?? Well. Buriza is, like usual, a luxury item. It doesn't help you much at the start of your build - but once you are doing massive damage with your Butterflies, THEN Buriza comes in and whacks them.

the skill build is very creative. which is good because you need that bit of agility in the early game.the item build is good but i would replace 1 of the bashers with Radiance, because radiance is still in affect on the opponents and creeps while you're invisible. so i would call this unpressent harrasing. but other than that it is good strategy.

Mmmmm, I still think that Radiance totally spoils your ultimate. I really do. It may work, as long as they aren't smart enough to have brought along a Gem or wards - this is kind of unlikely.

In terms of Bashers, you typically need two plus good attack speed to permabash. You DON'T need permabash every single time - if you can thrash them with just SnY, go straight for your Butterflies. Against other DPS heroes, you definitely want permabash. Once you have twin Bashers and one or two Butterflies, its quite an easy thing to do to swap the second Basher for another (2nd or 3rd) Butterfly - the single Basher's 15% should be enough with the attack speed of several Butterflies.

Haha I have to say - Maxing backstab early on is a must, and the stats upgrades are not necessarily much good early game. The only other thing I would change would be swapping MoM to Satanic due to the extra life steal + Max HP it provides.

Making this guide refined my SA game as much as everyone elses - since several of these comments, I've changed my skill build to BlS, SS, BlS, BkS, BlS, PI, BlS, BkS, BkS, BkS, PI (BlS being Blink Strike and BkS Backstab). One lvl of Smoke early for emergencies. Its effective at all stages of the game.
Play is simple - just lurk in the background until lvl6, then get nasty on them.

I like your strategy and I use it a couple of games but I find it hard getting items after I get my SNY. The other team might try to gank my or I try to help my teammates get hero kills. And neutral farming doesnt give nearly enough gold. By the time I get SNY after I get treads, I'm usually level 16 or 17 and it will take me forever to get the other 4 items. Any tips?

Considering my utmost desire not to get Radiance... you could get a Battle Fury. Possibly. Mjollnir (after Maelstrom) is an excellent farming item but SnY takes up your orb... so Battle Fury works. If you're desperate for money you should push a coupla towers down or similar.

So do I get battle fury straight after treads? I was thinking maybe switching the order of the items such as getting butterfly or SNY straight after RoR instead of treads.

Fury either straight after Treads or after SnY (because Fury might not make you dangerous enough to win over the mid-game, SnY will).

wouldn't desolator also be a great item for SA?

The main issue with Deso is the conflicting orb effects. Since my build says SnY, Deso wouldn't really work. But for SA, with a different build - seeing as I've already said this is not a PERFECT build and others work well enough, just as good, or even better - then that build could indeed use Deso. But not while theres SnY.

I have to say, Good Build. Radiance would be good, but if you have anough money for that... Thiers better items. I usually get harassed about not smoking when allies are getting damaged.. but they are usally running and so is the enemy.. so they would run through straight away anyway. I was just wondering what you thought i should do... + the shapeshifter lyfo.. or somthing has 403 ms with treads and his spell. so he could outrun you anyway. but lategame i guess you would get better items and both builds would differ. btw... Instead of agilty bands pick boots of agilty. Saves money info bands might give you +2 agilty over that. but it saves time with yash

I haven't gotten Wraiths on SA in ages. Generally goes courier -> 2x Ring of Regen -> Treads -> Yasha etc. OR, Ring of Regen and Ironwoods.

Lycan has at least 510 in Shapeshift with Treads and lvl4 Feral Heart.

I have addressed this issue: A) Its more about the stacked speed than the orbs, B) as always, Lifesteal first then Maim overrides.

Good effort Shimrra but i disagree wif the item build. You dont utilize his backstab enough, you should definitely max it out at the start to help wif the creeping. I agree wif not getting radiance as it gives away your position. Riki stealth should be used as a good way to scout enemies (check their creeping area) then wait until they are low on health or pinging like hell and wait for ur friends to come. Otherwise once the opponent see some sparkle from rad, they will immediately run to safety.Unless they are noob and try to tank you.

I'd also like to add that molljnir is perfect for riki rather than 2 bashers. Reasons being they do more damage and help you farm better at killing multiple creeps and heroes.
The damage is way more superior compared to 2 basher. 70 dmg (not including backstab), %20 chance for chain lightning (200dmg) and %20 chance for static buff (another 200dmg!!).
You get more bang from your buck wif mjollnir.

My first guide was very misguided. And this is it. Personally, I don't think Mjollnir would be a better Orb than SnY. Bashers, well, its the last resort really. IF you need to completely immobilise them, Basher build. But if its a bunch of weak Int heroes or something...

I would like to add that the Basher build is not for farming or doing superior damage. It is for making the victim totally helpless. Ie, against huge Bloodseeker with 500 a hit and lots of hp WHO WOULD THRASH YOUR FOUR BUTTERFLIES but can't because he can't move.

Mask of Madness is still a very viable item with or without permabash use. That much extra while the enemy is in Smoke Screen for example.

to all the riki ppl getting radiance, youre seriously bad. if youre playing against some turnips then it might just work by burning them with sparklies, but if they have a head, theyll know youre there, ward and own you. i dont see why sny is needed, butterfly is the way to go. ive always wanted to cry bashers, but it seems to be for a 1v1 situation, if its team gank, bashers arent there great

I think the permabash SA came from a series of 1v1 fights. Obviously a bad thing. Consider that 1v1 fights involve no skill after first blood. Anyway... SnY OR Diffusal, then Butterfly instantly after that (finishing Manta after Butterfly).

my friend recommended skadi, and id have to agree with that idea, its better than maim, hp, dmg. although its a total pain to farm. maybe butterfly then skadi

Its a totally worthless item for SA. You need Agility and damage and attack speed. The Int and probably the hp are wasted.

hp helps survival, agi is good, intel is wasted, but the slow is good too, its alright i guess, but i prefer bfly then manta

Diffusal is a better item and that takes the orb. *shrug*

Its a lousy build. I know its a lousy build. I currently use a very different build (Treads, 4 Wraiths, Diffusal, maximum Butterflies with Manta somewhere). The permabash build works exceedingly well against other DPS heroes though.

sure, with your item build you would probably win 1 on 1, but if they get a gem and gang you, you are srewed.
manta allows you to split to 3 and run away if you are in touble with a gang/gem problem. Also,the extra agi, dmg and feedbackis nice.
But that would be way too many orbs effects... i dont know...

1 more thing smokescreen has 40% chance to miss at lvl 1 and 70% chance to miss at lvl 4.Play the game and find out for yourself too.

this is a great guide i usually get MoM and Basher first and smoke screen are very useful early game..i dont get stat in early game, i just lvl all the skill of rikki. Once you are in lvl6 Booomm money is easy...

Yes, they don't stack but when Maim kicks in, lifesteal stops, and when Maim doesnt work, lifesteal continues.

For those who probably didn't really figure out much about SnY + lifesteal, yes they do help. And the reason to get MoM is to get 75% increased attack speed to work magic with bashers.

Not my kind of build, but it works.

I still think my current build is better. Hell I wouldn't give this a 4 right now...

The damage scares the hell out of everyone when I appear. And when I smoke, I don't even press alt to target heroes since I got bfly.

Thats probably the one item I haven't gotten on SA: Battle Fury. Simple logic for me, on the basis that by the time I have that kind of items, whoever I attack will be running from me. Therefore they won't be in a nice neat cluster to mow with splash damage.

I hardly ever get to battlefury in my games... Usually by the time I got a bfly, the game had ended.

It happened once when two players on left mid game.... in a 3v5 situation when I got that. Strangely, they warded the map but couldn't deal with the blink strike/smoke..

...Even though Maim only has a 5% chance of kicking in it still might stop the lifesteal, so why not just go for vlads instead of MoM, that way your "beserkeerererer" mode wont stop.

@vinzo er... the Maim kicks in, you can still lifesteal.. it is the hit where maim did affect the victim where you dont get to steal life.. just one hit... unless u keep on "maiming" the victim...

I think you have to survive level 1-6, then at level 11 your going imba, i had once stats with 13 killd and 2 death, i like this hero, you should make sure that you have full backstab at level 11, this hero is a real "laimer", only wait till the enemie is under 900 hp and the hit 2 times from the back, blink behind him, when he's running away, hit again on more time, run 5 sec. behind him till you have an other blink strikm and then kill him...

He's invisible. Vanguard is useless, because you're not a tank. SA is supposed to blink in/sneak up behind, kill them, then walk away while turning invisible again.

my most favorite hero is this blue violet hallowman assasin.
getting mask of madness after creating sange yasha is a bad idea for me.aside that it is an orb effect thing,you sad also that he is a good late gamer,so a maim is a very important one for him in a late game.sange yasha helps a lot u know.
also, not leveling backstab in early is not also a good idea for me especially if your opponent is an int type one. backstabLVL2+smokescreenLVL+blinkstrikeLVL2+invisibility LVL 1 = a level 6 kill

mask of madness and the sange yasha are both orrb effects...one of them will not be usable...but anyway, gud strat 9/10
