If you are looking for a hero killer right off the bat, you have come to the right place. I'll show you how "deadly" can Night Stalker be.
Balanar

Balanar - The Night Stalker

Range: | Move Speed: 295
Primary: STR
Str: 23 + 2.8 | Agi: 18 + 2.25 | Int: 16 + 1.6
Damage: 57 61 | HP: 587 | Mana: 208
HP Regen: 0.94 | Mana Regen: 0.65
Attack Speed: 0.69 | Armor: 6
Void
Void (V)
Creates a damaging void. If cast at night, slows the target for 4 seconds. If cast at day, slows the target for 2 seconds.
Level 1 - Deals 90 damage.
Level 2 - Deals 160 damage.
Level 3 - Deals 255 damage.
Level 4 - Deals 335 damage.
Void contains a ministun which procs at the beginning of its cast cancelling the target's channeling spell.
Mana Cost: 80/ 90/ 100/ 110
Cooldown: 8
Comment: This is your most important nuke/harass skill during early game. During the first night, this is your main weapon before going melee and kill. Max this ASAP! This can also be used when weak agility heros are in your lane and often stops you from getting creep kill/deny. However, only start nuking with this skill after or at level 3. This is because you only have a few shots due to short in mana, and you will see why this is a good idea when facing ranged heros as I explain in the guide later.

Crippling Fear
Crippling Fear (F)
In the night, the Night Stalker can cause intense fear in enemy units, causing them to miss attacks and be unable to cast spells. This has reduced effect during the day.
Level 1 - Miss on 40% of attacks, slow by 4%. Lasts 5 seconds.
Level 2 - Miss on 40% of attacks, slow by 8%. Lasts 6 seconds.
Level 3 - Miss on 40% of attacks, slow by 12%. Lasts 7 seconds.
Level 4 - Miss on 40% of attacks, slow by 16%. Lasts 8 seconds.
Causes 10% miss and silences for 3 seconds at all levels during daytime.
Mana Cost: 90
Cooldown: 12
Comment: This is your only skill that would counter heros that can Wind Walk or escape from you by skills. This is a "slience" at night. DO NOT USE THIS DURING THE DAY, because it won't have any effect what so ever! Max this only when you feel your enemies are escaping from you alot during mid or late game. Else, only max this during mid game after maxing Hunter in Night, Void, and Darkness.
Hunter in the Night
Hunter in the Night (G)
The Night Stalker is at home at night. He attacks and moves more swiftly.
Level 1 - 20% movement speed, 30% attack speed.
Level 2 - 25% movement speed, 45% attack speed.
Level 3 - 30% movement speed, 60% attack speed.
Level 4 - 35% movement speed, 75% attack speed.
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: N/A
Comment: This THE most IMPORTANT skill Night Stalker has. This is the KEY that makes him so strong and can kill so deadly. Max this along with Void ASAP!
Darkness
Darkness (R)
Creates a period of darkness for the Night Stalker to thrive in.
Level 1 - Turns day into night for 25 seconds.
Level 2 - Turns day into night for 50 seconds.
Level 3 - Turns day into night for 80 seconds.
This skill pauses the current time, so if it's cast at night it prolongs it.
With Aghanim's Scepter the Night Stalker will get unobstructed vision at night, meaning that trees and terrain will not block his vision.
In contrast to how Aghanim's Scepter works with other heroes, this improvement does not have anything to do with his ultimate (Darkness), but instead is active all the time.
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: 180/150/120
Comment: This skill turns day time into night time instantly. However, as day time turned into night, the timer stops for the normal day/night timer and only after the effect of your skill is over, will the timer start again. Therefore only use this skill AT NIGHT, hence making the enemy in "Darkness" longer. However, you may use this in day time when trying to escape in emergencies. This skill DOES NOT coast any mana.

Early Game:

Note: This is my first guide on this website, so go easy on me dear gamers! Thanks in advance.

FIRST OF ALL, WHEN PLAYING NIGHT STALKER, YOU MUST ABSOLUTELY SOLO!!!!! THIS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT TO SUPER GOD-LIKE HERO KILLING!     GO TOP IF YOU STARTED TOP, GO BOT IF YOU STARTED AT BOT!

There is one important thing that MUST be clarified before you buy ANY items for the Night Stalker. Ask yourself, are you a good mouse user or not? What I mean is do you have the skill to kill creeps while under heavy range hero bombardment, meaning occationally, when the enemy is under relaxed farming mode, can you kill the enemy creep(s) that are/is at red HP. If not, then start with Sequence and Stratey 1, else 2.

 Skill Management:

  1. max Void
  2. max Hunter in Night
  3. DO NOT touch Darkness even if you have the chance to
  4. Start leveling Darkness after level 8!

Sequence and Strategy 1:

(For Beginners using Night Stalker)

Note: buy items in this sequence for max performance

View Details for Ring of RegenerationView Details for Boots of SpeedView Details for BracerView Details for Power Treads

Note: a 500+ gold can easily be achieved by just killing 1 or 2 creeps during early game before first night

Facing ranged hero(s):
  • Earn at least 500+ gold before the first night.
  • Be at least level 6 before the first night (idealy level 8)
  • Do not let yourself be the victum of "first blood"
  • Stay alive!

The above is our goal for the very early game playing. When facing more than 1 ranged heros as enemies, try to stay back. If that is the case, facing two ranged heros, gaining experience will be your top priority. If it's possible, however, getting the last hit of the enemy creep(s) will help you build your eoconomic status at early game playing. But only do this when you are 100% sure that you will not be hit more than 3 times by your enemy and enemy heros. Staying behind will pretty much earn gold to around 500 when first night arrives.

Another way to avoid ranged hero bombardments is to deny as much as possible. When your ranged hero enemies are busy attacking your creeps, they will most likely, have to move one more step before attacking you. Therefore, if you time your precise deny, you can get away from it, making your enemies closer to your tower. Once they are near your tower, it's all yours man!

 Facing melee hero(s):
  • Same goal as above!

Facing melee heros is easier than fancing ranged heros. However avoid direct contacts with melee heros with stun abilities. Being stuned might cause your enemy heros to hit you more than once and potentially your enemy creep(s) too. Therefore only farm at the longest range possible from your enemy heros (opposite or near your own tower). Again, try to farm for gold that's 800+ and more (since melee will have higher chance of farming) and stay alive.

 Early game nuking:

For ranged enemy heros:

Without any mana regen items, nuking in early game will be fairly short. First of all, do NOT use void to nuke before level 3! The reason is that before level 3, Void is just not strong enough to scare off enemy in just couple of hits before your mana runs out. Often from my experience, weak agility heros will run off in just as few as 2 to 3 attacks of void that's above level 3. Now having a level 3 Void, meaning your character is mostly likely to be around level 6 or so, it will be fairly close to the first night. The purpose of this "nuke" is to make your enemy, at least one of them, go back to base so that you don't lose too much as you will have to go back to base when first night comes.

For melee enemy heros:

If you know that your enemy has high Hp, do NOT nuke unless he's pushing you too far. What I mean is that if your Hp is more than 1/4 less than your enemy, you should bring their Hp down to the same level as yours. Again try only use Void at level 3 and above, however you need not to follow this as strictly as for ranged heros, because the goal isn't to force them back to base.

Sequence and Strategy 2:

(For people who are more advanced in micro-management)

Note: buy items in this sequence for max performance

View Details for BracerView Details for Boots of SpeedView Details for BracerView Details for Power Treads

This strategy is aimed for early God-Like owning. As you can tell, the two bracers will be providing +12 Str, and more than 200Hp bonus.

Chose your solo lane and try to stay away from nukers such as:

Rylai Crestfall - The Crystal MaidenZeus - Lord of OlympiaLina Inverse - The SlayerDarchrow - The EnigmaAggron Stonebreaker - The Ogre MagiBoush - The TinkerRhasta - The Shadow ShamanRigwarl - The BristlebackKel`Thuzad - The LichLion - The Demon WitchLesale Deathbringer - The VenomancerViper - The NetherdrakeAnub`arak - The Nerubian AssassinBone Clinkz - The Bone FletcherPugna - The OblivionRotund`jere - The Necrolyte

Of course, having so many heros on this list would make it impossible to farm. What I mean "stay away" meaning, judge before you go on and kill a creep or deny a creep. Since you are an advanced mirco player in WCIII, I shall trust your own skills in whether you should or you shouldn't kill that creep. Try the early Nuke method for weak nukers. However watch your own mana pool and really try only using Void that's level 3 and above.

Important:

Put your mouse over the day indicator at the top center to see the time when it has a full circle of light bulbs. Usually around 17:30 to 17:45, you should be around level 8 or 7 if you didn't get much deny from your enemy. Head back HOME once you've get to level 8 if you are only level 7 at that time. Make sure you have 900+ gold for advance players and around 500+ for beginners. TRUST ME, YOU NEED TO HEAD HOME BEFORE ULTIMATE OWNAGE.

Early game hero killing:

Items that might help for longer killing without going back home:

View Details for Flask of Sapphire WaterView Details for Lesser Clarity Potion

Always remember to check runes. If you are a lucky guy, a regen will make you go on. Or a double damage will do as well!

Assuming you have at least one bracer, and a boot of travel, it's time to own!

  • Check your mini map and know who is missing!
  • Select a lane that has only ONE hero!
  • Make sure the lane you've selected do not has the missing hero(s) around!
  • Engage that unlucky player.

Start your killing with your level 4 Void attack. This work best when you walk out of surprise for your enemy. Then after he is slowed from you Void, just start wacking him until he's dead. Usually there will not be any hero that can out run your, however if cases that you feel you don't enough time to wack him physically to death before he escapes, you may use another Void. I know saying this sound stupid, but do watch your mana pool since you want to OWN. You are not just out for 1 kill, but more than 3 kills! If you are near the enemy's tower, keep wacking/engaging if and only if:

  1. You have more than one bracer
  2. Your Hp is above 80% or 75%
  3. Your enemy Hp is below 30%
  4. There are no other allies around your target
  5. There are no more than 2 creeps that might attack you as you attack the hero

After killing around 2 to 3, your mana pool should run low, assuming you only used 1 Void attack on each hero you've killed. Drinkg up your potions or find Regeneration runes or head back base. With your super fast speed, those few mins won't matter! Right after you are done, head for another round of kill!

 Conclusion:

Usually after two rounds of killing, you should have around 4 to 6 kills with zero deaths if you are good. However, as your enemy will alerted by your ownage, they would probably stay together as a team. But it's time for mid-game already, therefore some team work wouldn't hurt even though Night Stalker is a sololist.

i prefer Void 1st before Crippling Fear,it will give you more time to kill.

629 By neimi 2011-05-24

night stalker farms heros not creeps.

he is has stalker in his name for crying out loud.

your build isnt that good.
your not a hardcore carry to be farming all game long.
id rather get a boot + urn + wand + bottle which cost about 20K less gold than your build and is more effective since night stalker is a ganker.

if your farming all that time you dont gank. and if you dont gank your a low level.
thats how night stalker works.

628 By Mahyar 2011-05-23

using void reduses your effectiveness in ganking phase but helps in farming n let me become a late game semi carry with help of magnatur my build:
arcane boot,bfury,crystalis,sny,mjolnoir(if spelled correct),radaiance
strange build first time trying but not bad when you dont have a aoe dps in ur team n being harrased a lot but i missed ganking phase when farming in jungles!

@613 please read the changelog first. in 6.72 sny is no more orb so hotd and sny is a good combination for balanar

about the day time kills

623 By neimi 2011-05-23

void stone is also somehow a fail on him.
id rahter go with boot + pms + QB + urn + wand + bottle.
thats my early game build.
thats more than enough for regen to keep u going all night long. and your a roamer at night also, ehich makes it that muich better as a build.
getting treads then scepter is actually easier than you might expect.
i usually have my scepter before the second night.
just be sure to take all the night kills and dont leave any kill to your allies at night.dont care ...

622 By neimi 2011-05-23

NS mid is too good to waste.
thus you shouldnt be against 2 ranged heros.
at lvls 1 to 2 its ok to take the creeps with your nuke but at lvl 3 your supposed to use it as an offensive tool.
it deals 160 dmg at lvl 2. thats too good to waste.
and you can farm pretty easily against 2 ranged heros.
just click attack on the enemy hero to gain creep aggro(creeps start to attack you) run back so that the creeps follow you a bit, and voila. the creeps are close to you but far from the enemy...

621 By Mahyar 2011-05-23

but i tested dont lvl up just one lvl didnt gank well till i get arcane boots but it helped against bone fletcher and sniper tst first

620 By Shin Imagine 2011-05-23

@619
80/90/100/110 mana for a creep kill, excellent.

when against 2 ranged heroes, just change lanes or get a good ally laner.

619 By Mahyar 2011-05-23

anyone has tried void stone at beginnig and getting creep kills with your nuke when against 2 ranged heroes?

618 By llgondarll 2011-05-22

613 By ShoMi 2011-03-22

@610

yeah, with SnY and dominator, you could get skadi, desolator, and mjolnir, it will perfectly stack -.-

610

You forgot your Divine rapier

611 By mawhpawh 2011-03-16

@610
Thats a horrible build...
I would only accept Dominator and Phase as viable items.
