Breathes fire at enemy units which deals damage.
Level 1 - 75 damage.
Level 2 - 150 damage.
Level 3 - 225 damage.
Level 4 - 300 damage.
Mana Cost: 100/110/120/130
Cooldown: 12 seconds
Comment: Your main early game nuke. I don't think there needs to be too much justification of this skill. Normally all nukes are mastered early on, so as to get their maximum potential. Also, it will help your farming immensely. One shot of this and all the range creeps will fall. Great profit.

Knight Davion bashes a melee-range enemy target with the fury of a dragon`s tail swipe. Stuns the target and deals minor damage.
Level 1 - Deals 25 damage, Stuns for 2.5 seconds.
Level 2 - Deals 50 damage, stuns for 2.75 seconds.
Level 3 - Deals 75 damage, stuns for 3 seconds.
Level 4 - Deals 100 damage, stuns for 3.25 seconds.
Mana Cost: 100
Cooldown: 9 seconds
Comment: Normally, I would only get 1 level of this at the start. 2 reasons, one to save your butt as it is your only escape during early game. Second, a stun is always good to have under the belt when trying to land an early game kill.

Grants Dragon Knight blood from his ancient ancestral dragon heritage, which increases health regeneration and armor.
Level 1 - Increases hp regen by 1 and armor by 2.
Level 2 - Increases hp regen by 2 and armor by 4.
Level 3 - Increases hp regen by 3 and armor by 6.
Level 4 - Increases hp regen by 4 and armor by 8.
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: N/A
Comment: Why do I max this out early? Well, really there is absolutely no point in leaving this till later... sure the 8 armor will be good but the 4 regen will go to waste. The longer you are able to farm in your lane without going back means 2 things. One you will most likely out level your opponents, second you will have more gold to buy the items that you need.

Transforms the Dragon Knight into a powerful elder dragon. Gives 25 movement speed boost. Lasts 60 seconds.
Level 1 - Transform into a Green Dragon with a corrosive breath attack.
Level 2 - Transform into a Red Dragon with a splash attack.
Level 3 - Transform into a Blue Dragon with an extremely powerful frost attack.
A Green Dragon gives additional 25 movespeed, and has a “corrosive attack” that slows an unit and deals 20 magical damage per second for 5 seconds. The corrosive damage won’t stack. Corrosive Breath will work on towers.
A Red Dragon gives additional 25 movespeed, 5 bonus damage, and has a “splash attack” that deals full damage to all units around the primary target.
A Blue Dragon gives additional 25 movespeed, 14 bonus damage, and has an “extremely powerful frost attack” that deals half damage to all units around the primary target, plus 3 seconds of frost effect (30% move speed reduction and 20% attack speed reduction).
Both “splash attack” and “extremely powerful frost attack” affect damage to buildings, i.e. if you attack the buildings, units surrounding the buildings will be damaged, vice versa.
Mana Cost: 50
Cooldown: 115
Comment: Don't glare at the cool down. It might be 115 seconds, but in reality you are in dragon form for more than half the time. So really it is only a 55 second cd ULTI. Does it sound better now? Also once you reach 16, it will be almost impossible for a single hero to escape you. With your dragon tail and the frost attack from your ulti, you are now truly a force to be reckoned with.
But get this. All that isn't even the best part yet. THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS ULTI, is that it is "unwastable" (I'm sorry if that isn't a word). What does that mean? Well, it means that basically you can't waste this ulti. other ulties such as Ravage or Epicenter, can be wasted if not used properly. However this ulti, it doesn't matter, even if you don't net a kill, you can still use it to farm during the duration.

Item Build:
1.
Ancient Tango of Essifation (90)
Active: Eat Tree
Eats a tree to restore 115 HP over 16 seconds. Purge will end the effect even though the status icon will remain.
Note: Stacks with itself in inventory. 3 charges.
I seriously don't think this need to be explained....
2.

Animal Courier (170)
Active: Summon Animal Courier
Creates an Animal Courier to carry items. 5 manacost.
Note: 1 charge.
I would get this if you are playing pub games, where no one really cares about the team only how many kills they get. Other wise, let someone else get this item. True you are not overly item dependent, but still... for the greater good of the team ^^
3.

Bracer (510)
6 Strength
3 Agility
3 Intelligence
Gauntlets of Ogre Strength + Circlet of Nobility + Bracer Recipe Scroll
Normally I would get two. Cheap fix to your HP pool; also adds to your mana pool.
4.

Power Treads (1450)
60 Movement Speed
25 Attack Speed
10 Selected Attribute
Active: Switch Attribute
Switches the attribute that receives a bonus. From Strength to Intelligence, Intelligence to Agility, and Agility to Strength.
Note: Can only carry one. Movement speed bonus doesn't stack with Boots of Travel, Phase Boots, Power Treads, or Boots of Speed.
Boots of Speed + Gloves of Haste + Boots of Elvenskin or Robe of the Magi or Belt of Giant Strength
Here is where it gets interesting. With my standard build, I would get this item because the attack speed and HP bonus is nice. However, I will mention different builds in my guide and you will just have to read on.
5.

Satanic (6150)
25 Strength
20 Damage
5 Armor
Passive: Lifesteal
25% lifesteal on attacks. Orb effect.
Active: Unholy Rage
Adds 175% lifesteal. Lasts 3.5 seconds. 35 seconds cooldown.
Helm of the Dominator + Messerschmidt's Reaver + Satanic Recipe Scroll
Well, probably many would disagree on whether this should be the first core. Well...what are you going to get instead then? Satanic not only gives you Str which adds to your damage but also HP which you will need to tank with. Also the life steal and the bonus damage that comes along with it is just invaluable. However for those that really don't like this item for some unknown reason, like I said I did include other possible builds with this hero.
6.

Radiance (5150)
60 Damage
Passive: Burn Damage
Deals 40 damage per second. 650 AoE.
Note: Clicking Radiance will toggle Burn Damage on and off.
Sacred Relic + Radiance Recipe Scroll
What else can a tank/carry want? Not only does it help you push, it gives you a jack load of damage. But also the miss is just pure bonus. Once you get this item, the game should be over.
7.

Assault Cuirass (5550)
35 Attack Speed
10 Armor
Passive: Attack Speed Aura
Adds 20 attack speed. 900 AoE
Passive: Positive Armor Aura
Adds 5 armor. 900 AoE. Affects buildings. Doesn't stack with armor auras from Assault Cuirass, Ring of Basilius, or Vladmir's Offering.
Passive: Negative Armor Aura
Remove 5 armor to enemies. 900 AoE. Affects enemy buildings.
Plate Mail + Hyperstone + Chainmail + Assault Cuirass Recipe Scroll
Normally, games these days or as of 6.57b they don't last more than 1 hour. So I would hardly imagine you with this item. But if you were godly and seriously pwned everyone else and is just stacking up your items to look cool. This is definitely the item to go for. Not only does it add to your already immense armor, but also it gives extra attack speed which goes along perfectly with your life steal.
8.

Heart of Tarrasque (5500)
40 Strength
300 HP
Passive: Health Regeneration
Regenerates 2% of max health each second. Only regenerates health when the bearer has not taken damage from a player owned source or Roshan in the last 6 seconds. Doesn't stack with itself.
Messerschmidt's Reaver + Vitality Booster + Heart of Tarrasque Recipe Scroll
If you do somehow make it to this point. There is no other item better than the heart. It gives you almost 1k of bonus HP pool, also lots of regen and attack. This is perhaps one of the most cost effective items. Yet it is not in our top two cores, because they give more than just HP and Damage.
9.

Buriza-do Kyanon (5800)
81 Damage
Passive: Critical Strike
20% chance to deal 2.4x normal damage on an attack.
Crystalis + Demon Edge + Buriza-do Kyanon Recipe Scroll
Ah, the final piece of the puzzle. The ultimate hard hitting item. With this item, you are literally a monster. Weak dps and int heroes fall before you like flies. And then you can demolish the tanks with your life steal.

Early Game:
General Hero Overview
Well, let's get rolling. Before you venture further into my walls of text, it would be nice to just start out with some basics of the almighty dragon knight. Firstly, you are not, and I repeat NOT Troll or Mortred or Void. You do not farm for forty minutes and then come out with your kick ass items and then pWnz00r everyone with them. By all means you can farm, but only to get the necessary items before you are obliged to help out your teammates. Also another point, you are not Zeus or Tormented, you do not have the luxury of using a spell when ever you happen to feel like it. Your pitiful mana pool does not support such lavish spending. You have to be conservative towards how you spend your mana points to their optimum potential. Now let’s summarize the basic Pros and Cons of DK.
Pros:
"Davion probably has the highest armor not counting agility bonuses, and has the longest-duration non-ultimate stun. His Level 3 Elder Dragon Form makes him a fearsome killing machine." Dota All-Stars
- One of the most versatile heroes
o Caster
o Tank
o Late Game Carry
- Has one of the longest stuns of the game, that does not require extensive practice and placing such as techies wards or PoTm’s arrow.
- Has a balance of early game farming and late game abilities.
o Hp and Armor with Dragon’s Blood
o Late game, you have your Dragon Tail and your ulti
- Man do you have high armor or what? Highest armor, not counting Agi bonus. That is something people.
- A great attack animation of only 0.5, therefore easier last hitting and denying
- Has a good str gain.2.8 per level.
- You can take down towers just as fast as Clinks. Okay Maybe not AS fast but still better than most.
Cons:
- Sadly you are not exactly as I said, the BEST caster… leave that to the mages.
- Also you are not the best tank… that roll is still IMO centaur's or treat's.
- Also…. Your late game will get overshadowed if there is a mortred or troll or void… that has farmed for the past forty minutes and now owns everyone.
- Don’t have much of an escape, other than the stun and faster ms, and that during a gank won’t really save your behind.
- Also even though your stun is auto aim, it has a pitiful range. Melee range in fact
- Not exactly the best movement speed in the game.Only 290 ='(
Hey as you can see the pros actually do out weigh the cons ^^.
Skill build Justification
Dragon blood and Breath of Fire is maxed out for obvious reasons. Getting only 1 level of tail at level one is because the stun duration does not increase significantly and is therefore a waste of stat points. Unless you are going the tanking or caster build. Also it helps to keep you safe from the annoying first blood heroes... *Damn Techies*
*special mention*
Elder Dragon is added every time *unless* you have yet to push down your first tower. Since the "green" dragon's corrosive breath deals damage on builds it is wise to keep that until you push down your first tower. THEN You add the second level. This all depends on the situation.
Early Game
Well I would consider your “early” game to be from 1-10. True that is higher than the normal early game duration, but seriously you are farming till you max Fire. It would be so much easier for you to land kills.
Early Game Tasks
- Survive…duh…
- Farm…duh…even though you are not like void, who will epically fail late game if he doesn’t farm well, you might still become a liability to the team if you don’t farm well.
- Deny, if you are paired with a ranged hero, leave that job to them. You don’t get to go near creeps that often, why waste that time in denying when you need money.
- Harass: With your armor and hp regen. Against another melee hero, you can probably pull this off.
- HERO KILLING: Not yet my friend...not yet...unless you get lucky. Then take it!!
Like I mentioned before dragon knight can fulfill many different rolls in the team. Here are just some examples I have seen that worked.
However before you go pick one. I am going to list the advantages of each. So it's easier for you to choose the best one. Think of it like shopping.
*I offer the best selection with the best prices*
Caster
Good
- Mid game dominance.
- Luxury of spamming your skills
- Large mana pool
- Great team support
Bad
- Lose late game dominance
- Smaller HP pool. ( In certain situations)
Tank
Good
- Obviously you have a HUGE Hp pool, so in sales terms...durability?
- Again great team player. Sucks up all the damage up for them.
- Easy to use, a BIG plus.
Bad
- Again less late game dominance.
- Can't spam spells
Hybrid
Good
- Best of both worlds, Carry and Tank.
- Massive damage out put.
- Large HP pool
- Still a great team player
Bad
- Harder to use because of certain items.
- If not farmed well, could potentially screw up your entire game.
*Special Build*
Good
- Great carry potential
- Generates mass confusion.
- Great damage out put if done right
- Very very very fun!
Bad
- Much harder to use
- Lower "normal" damage out put.
- Less HP pool.
Standard (This is at the middle of the "early game" section)
Good
- Carry with ease
- Great damage out put
- Good HP pool
- Great chaser
- Easy to use
Bad
- Takes time to farm up
Caster Skill and Item build
Level 1: Fire
Level 2: Tail
Level 3: Fire
Level 4: Blood
Level 5: Fire
Level 6: EDF
Level 7: Fire
Level 8: Blood
Level 9: Blood
Level 10: Blood
This build involves getting Fire ASAP. The tail is thrown in there just for the 2.5 second stun. Also if you are planing to go caster I would strongly advise you to take a look at magic spells weaknesses and counters by quale
Magic Spell's Weaknesses and Counters
Items
Instead of getting the normal, Bottle and Bracers. We will substitute that with one Null and Arcane. This will give you plenty of mana to spam fire every time it is on CD. You should be able to complete , 1 bracer, 1 Null, and Arcane and Boots which is 3195 gold by level 7. Considering you start with 600 gold, 160 of which is spend on tangos therefore you have 440 is left. So really you only have to make 2755 gold by level 7. Not that hard right? Lets just say that on average you get 1.5 gold per second. Normally if you did not die and your opponents did not have auto deny hack, you should be level 7 by 8 minutes. Therefore you will get 720 gold just from standing there. So if we subtract that from your target goal you only need 2035 gold. Lets say that per creep you get 45 gold so really you need 45 creep kills. Now, that may seem like A LOT. But, you are forgetting the fact that your team might also get a tower kill, that is an instant 200 or so gold to your pockets. So don't fret. This calculation also goes with my standard build and the tanking build.
So if you are going with this build, by the end of your mid game, I predict that you should have
Arcane
1 Null
1 Bracer
Boots of Speed
And you are on your way to your Travels.
This seems like a lot of things to get but, really after you get your arcane, you farm so much faster by spamming breath, therefore making this possible.
![]() | ![]() | |||
![]() | ![]() | |||
The down side to side build is that you lose much of your late game potential. After mid game where you really shine, you turn into more of a supporter.
Tank Skill and Item Builds
This is exactly how you should feel.
Level 1: Blood
Level 2: Tail
Level 3: Blood
Level 4: Tail
Level 5: Blood
Level 6: EDF
Level 7: Blood
Level 8: Tail
Level 9: Tail
Level 10: Fire
This build requires you to max out blood for the armor and tail for that 0.75 second extra stun. Since you won’t be buying anything that will increase your mana regen or mana pool. Using fire twice and then wait for another fire minutes to use it again is defiantly not worth it. Therefore getting tail is a better option.
Tank Item Build
The items build will require you to get two to three bracers as they are the cheapest fixes to hp pool. Also Travels will also be needed here, for the attack speed bonus from treads will be obsolete. You are just going to jump in a battle, stun and then wait for your team to do the rest. The starting items will not differ much from the standard, but instead of getting Satanic as your first core item, you will be getting Radiance first. This will help you farm a lot faster due to the fact that you will not have the benefit of farming with Fire and also because you are going to be a tank, the long you stay in the batter the more damage Radiance will do. After you have completed Radiance, you will be going on to your next tank item, and as we all know there is no better item to buff up your HP than Heart.

You should be on your way to Boots of travels.
Hybrid Item Build
Yes its another build...this one is very similar to the "standard" build. The skill build is exactly the same, and the item build is only slightly different.

And you should almost have
Special Build
With help from marina, this new build has come officially into existence. However more will be explained about it later as the item and skill build at this point is still the same. Yet I must mention, this build is slightly harder than the other 3, but if you have ninja fingers feel free to try it out.
After you have decided which pathway you are going to venture into, you can START!!
Starting Items:

OR

If you are going Tank.
Now this is for a normal AP 5v5 start. If you are playing 4v4 or 3v3 or 2v2 or 1v1.
Simply add these items as you see fit.

For a 1v1 Game I suggest

And then you will have roughly 500 gold left. Save that up for the Reaver.
Once you have purchased your items, you are ready to make another decision. Generally I would strongly suggest you to NOT go to mid lane. Usually that is where the hardcore nukers like to duke it out. Normally a melee hero such as yourself should go to one of the side lanes. If you are on sentinel bottom, please do not block. There is really no point in doing so, the creeps are already so close to your tower, any close and the tower will get all the creep kills. We don’t want that know do we? Not only that but you will actually push up further, because your tower kills so fast. Same applies for the scourge top. If you are on sentinel top or scourge bottom by all means block. If you wish to find a good guide on how to creep block I would strongly suggest you to take a look at Caspian’s guide. It is very informative and offers valuable information to all players.
Once you are at your lane, it is very important to assess your opponents. Not only what heroes they are using but also what playing style they are.
Lane Scenarios
1v1 Melee
This probably would not happen if you picked the sentinel bottom or scourge top, however if it does then you are in serious luck. There are hardly any early game melee harassers (other than maybe Abaddon and Kunkka), therefore last hitting should be relatively easy. Just be careful though, there isn’t much point in trying to go all guns blazing on the other hero unless they are at really low HP. Generally it would quite difficult for you to kill a hero 1v1 unless you went the caster build. During early game, your damage is not the highest neither is your DPS. You might not be able to kill them, but you do have the ability to send them back to their base once in a while. This is where you would have to assess your opponents playing style. If he or she is very cautious and only comes up once in awhile in last hit or deny and does not try to harass you, then simply follow what they are doing. Farm as fast as possible, and then if they are a super late gamer such as troll or void I would suggest you ask for a gank at level 6ish. If your opponent is going all berserk and every time you go up to last hit he tries to kill you on the spot. This can be seen as good or bad. Good in that if he isn’t careful you can easily net a kill, on the other hand… maybe he really can kill you. So here goes, if he comes up to attack you, I would just move back slightly, not so far back that he would have to walk too far away from his creeps but just far enough so that it would take 2~3 seconds for his creeps to turn around walk up and attack you. Once he has targeted you, the creep aggression should turn on. Once you have moved a sensible distance from his creeps, stun him or her. Following that you can just wack the daylights out of them. Remember early game, EVERYONE is weak, however with you and your creeps you are instantly a force on the battle field.
This would also work with someone who would go all out to get a kill. When you are at low HP and your opponent thinks they got the upper hand and tower dives, it is so simple for you to just turn around stun and watch your tower do the work.
1v2 Melee
Well, still not to much trouble here, since its 2v1 you should level a lot faster then them. So, that would mean more blood and fire. Generally the strategy does not differ too much from the 1v1 melee but just be more cautious towards the heroes. You can basically give up most hopes of harassing them, unless you are going caster. If you notice the your opponents have a stun, then be extra careful when you are at lower Hp. A simple chain of nukes from your enemy’s may just send you to your grave.
1v1 Ranged
Depended on the hero, but generally be very cautious. Only go up to last hit or deny. Don’t try to harass unless you are going caster. The up side to this is that, most ranged heroes have low HP. Therefore if they all overly aggressive they may just fall to your trap and get killed by your tower when they tower dive. If you are against a Drow or Viper, I would strongly suggest you ask for help. Your early game is gone, if you meet one of them alone. You are too important to your team to be taken out so early.
1v2 Ranged
Ok… .stay back last hit…. Don’t die… I would again strongly suggest you either ask for a lane partner or swap lanes. Even though you have high armor and regen, against 2 ranged is still too much for even the great DK to handle, early on. Later, its another story.
2v1 Melee
Again everything has two sides, if your partner is ranged; you can probably harass the daylights out of that poor melee hero. If your ally is melee then he or she probably has some sort of slow, stun or disable up their sleeve. So from that prospective it is nice, but it is 1v2 and you will get less experience. Also remember to not push too fast.
2v2 Melee
Not much difference, if your partner is a ranged, you might still have an upper hand, but still farm as you normally would.
2v1 Ranged
Here you have less to fear, one ranged hero can’t take out both of you right? Well… they might still be able to take you down and then book it… So best to be cautious and farm, however netting a kill in this situation is much easier.
2v2 Ranged
Well... what can I say… don’t go over board with the tanking, but don’t be afraid to go up and last hit.
Basically to sum up your early game.
- Farm

This is the one on the sentinel side.
Before we end things off here. I just wanted to show you a more detailed analysis of your skills. From Dota-Allstars
Breathe Fire
Breathes fire at enemy units which deals damage.
| |||||||||||||||||||
Level | Duration | Mana Cost | Casting Range | Allowed Targets | Effects
1 | N/A | 12 seconds | 100 | 500 | 50 -> 250* | Enemy unit | 75 damage
2 | N/A | 12 seconds | 110 | 500 | 50 -> 250* | Enemy unit | 150 damage
3 | N/A | 12 seconds | 120 | 500 | 50 -> 250* | Enemy unit | 225 damage
4 | N/A | 12 seconds | 130 | 500 | 50 -> 250* | Enemy unit | 300 damage
*The AoE of this skill is in a cone, that is, narrower at the caster's end and wider at the farther end. The narrower end is 50 units wide and the wider end is 250 units wide.
- This skill is not blocked by Linken's Sphere.
- Breath Fire deals Magical damage which is reduced by the target's Spell Resistance and is blocked by Spell Immunity.

This is pretty basic. Just keep in mind that when you initially unleash the fire, the end is A LOT narrower so if someone is standing to the side of you, you probably won't hit then. Still, this is a easy spell to use compared to meat hook.
Dragon Tail
Davion bashes a melee-range enemy target with the fury of a dragon's tail swipe. Stuns the target and deals minor damage.
| |||||||||||||||||||
Level | Duration | Mana Cost | Casting Range | Allowed Targets | Effects
1 | 2.5 seconds | 9 seconds | 100 | 150 | N/A | Enemy Unit

4 | 3.25 seconds | 9 seconds | 100 | 150 | N/A | Enemy Unit | 100 Damage and Stun
- This skill is blocked by Linken's Sphere.
- Dragon's Tail deals Magical damage which is reduced by the target's Spell Resistance and is blocked by Spell Immunity.
You see that casting range? 150. That is basically melee range. So BE CAREFUL when you use it. You are going to be in the enemies line of fire. The good thing is though, only 9 sec cooldown. Awesome got a 3.25 second stun. And its only 100 mana, which is perfect for your mana pool.
Dragon Blood
Grants Dragon Knight blood from his ancient ancestral dragon heritage, which increases health regeneration and armor.
| |||||||||||||||||||
Level | Duration | Mana Cost | Casting Range | Allowed Targets | Effects
1 | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | None

Nothing much to say here. Great regen and armor. Why won't you get this??
Elder Dragon Form
Transforms the Dragon Knight into a powerful elder dragon.

Level | Duration | Mana Cost | Casting Range | Allowed Targets | Effects
1 | 60 seconds | 115 seconds | 100 | N/A | N/A | Self | Transform into a Green Dragon

- Green Dragon (Level 1) / Red Dragon (Level 2) / Blue Dragon (Level 3)
Oh man, this is it. You are now the big cheese. This is why you are the Dragon Knight in the first place.
Pretty sick ey?
The Level 1 Elder Dragon is a Green Dragon that has 315 base movespeed, 500 attack range, 0.5 attack animation (0.4 backswing) and has the following ability:
Corrosive Breath
A corrosive breath that deals overtime damage to buildings.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Duration | Mana Cost | Casting Range | Allowed Targets | Effects
5 seconds | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | Enemy Unit | 20 damage per second
The key here is the damage to buildings. You will take down towers like a monster.
Fiery Breath
A fiery breath that spreads across a certain area dealing damage

The Level 2 Elder Dragon is a Red Dragon that has 315 base movespeed, 5 bonus base damage, 500 attack range, 0.5 attack animation (0.4 backswing) and has Splash Attack. The Splash deals 100% damage in a 75 AOE, 75% damage in a 150 AOE, 50% damage in a 250 AOE.
(Splash damage, free BFury right here. Very important point though, depending on where the enemies are you will deal different damage. So if there is someone like Magnus or Dark seer on your team, take advantage.)

This is it people. The real deal. Look at that 30% ms and 20% ias, Drow ranger's frost arrow is only 10% more movement speed reduction. You get this AND splash. Perfect package. This combined with your 3.25 sec stun, I really want to see someone escape from you.
