Good strat, detailed in all sections but straight to the point. I don't really use Magnus, but I'll try your strat out. I'd give it a 9/10.

Mighty swing is your best farming ability! during mid game you should definitely max it. Empower is great to boost att, even if its not you. Stick it on someone like mortred and watch the damage fly!

yep, i noted that I have bias over getting stats and mighty swing, getting mighty swing later on the game is only optional, since the skill build is only one, although i delay might swing later just to push off, its your choice to take mighty swing early or late, but if you follow the guide exactly its gonna work out with the skill build

Do you know how splash damage works? Also, you say that spamming shockwave shouldn't be a problem with your build, but I don't see any mana-regen items. Are you saying that your stats+clarity potions will allow you to spam shockwave near-continuously?

T_T, did you actually consult the skill build, and using shockwave wisely? spamming doesnt mean using it after 1 second, it means using it continuesly to give your opponent an advantage and make you farm for more items, please read the guide before you comment okey?

Of coruse I've read your skill build, that's evident in the comment I made about your getting stats. Of course spamming doesn't mean using it after 1 second, but 90 mana still adds up when you're "using it continuesly to give your opponent an (DIS) advantage" (You really must show me how to use it to my opponent's advantage, never quite got the hang of that). Oh and those two quotes in my previous comment, wonder where they came from.. hmm can'tve been this guide cos hey, I didn't read it. Seriously now did you even read my questions before getting all defensive? If you don't have any answers for them, then fine, it's not a big deal, but saying "You didn't read my guide you can't talk" doesn't cut it with me.

Yeah he is the farming hero.

I think he means that you just harass them with shockwave, it's a really good harassing skill with veeeeeeery low manacost. Also the animation is pretty fast, so it's kinda easy to use. You can just blast it off and get a couple of creeps + weaken the enemy at the same time...

Mighty Swing does not lower your damage... or that's the way I thought you understanding it. You will deal the full damage to your target, and then (% of your attack damage) to the others near your main target.
My build for magus is:
Ring of regen + clarities.
Arcane Ring (I skip it sometimes, but it really helps w/ shockwave)
Perserveance...
Boots
Buy rest of the mats for battlefury (cheap damage and cleave stacks directly w/ mighty swing... if you buy some extra ones they will stack directly too, so your cleave damage can pass 100%)
Boots of Travel / Power Treads... (bot is nice since you will have the mobility and freedom of farming neutrals because now you can just TP base if you need def...)
Heart...
Rest of the items depend on case...
usually a hypersone...

But that's the way I play, not you...

Then the classic rapier aegis

Personally I wouldn't leave Mighty Swing that late. Also I haven't ever taken stats in the beginning. He is a STR hero which means that he has HP.

Wow, I posted under Magnus 'SOMEONE MAKE A MAGNUS GUIDE', what, two hours ago? Cool. Ummm, what I end up doing is getting two Perseverence BEFORE BOOTS! which is cool, and works reeeeally well for a while, but then I screw up. I think what you have to do is rush Battle Fury. Ummm, item build could use some work, orb effects and that... but hey, I love the Berserk too, I get Sny + MoM all the time. But still more details I reckon. I think this is a good guide, but it IS the only Magnus guide on this guide ^_^ ahhh 9/10. For now.

Uhhh.... Satanic AND MoM??? And your guide is useless if you go -AR... No stunner/slower allies??? What do we do? Stick to a plan "You do not recomend"???

The Lawyer™:i think what he meant was during early game broodmother will be hiding in the web to farm and get exp.Therefore you could just spamshockwave and damage broodmother easily .Naix has one of the lowest hp during early game for a str hero so its easy to kill zzz....

I disagree with much of your guide.. I don't like MoM, I think Necromonican is much better for supporting and damage, and has good synergy with your ultimate. Also Migty swing is really useful mid game I would get it 12-15. 6/10 for effort, I don't know why nobody ever uses this guy, he owns.

Pretty nice guide but i usually get battle fury to help with farming. When splash damage combined with empower. KABOOM!!!!

Sorry dude, but this "guide" is as helpful as it is misleading. I cannot believe someone who does not know how splash damage works (and what is more, advises AGAINST it) would write a tutorial for the magna.

You are correct on the tactics and how one needs to play the magna, but you are so wrong with the item build and skill leveling I cannot believe it! First and foremost - go for battlefury, starting with perseverence and a basilius ring. Level shockwave and empower, once you are done with shockwave (on lvl 7) you can start the mighty swing. Spam with shockwave, one hit afterwards and all the creep is yours. You will have 85% splash, which will help you farm in ways you cannot imagine - even without the shockwave you will hit the creep two-three times and voila. Then go for power treads. After that you will farm so fast and so efficiently that you can afford to buy anything - even if you cannot come close to the creep (having a ranged opponent) you can spam with shockwave, as you have enough mana for it.

The items I build for a magna are:

- battlefury
- power treads
- heart
- satanic or butterfly
- BKB
- dagger

not exactly in the order listed. Possible replacements for the BKB (if there are no stunners/mags) are radiance, mkb, etc. Radiance would rule, adding to the AOE damage even more.

The way magna is intended to be played is:

- spam with shockwave
- get in the crowd (using the dagger)
- use the ult
- hit several times with empower, having a LOT of SPLASH (which is what the BF and mighty swing are for) and get EVERYONE if not dead, then at least close to being so.

The magna is not a hero killer, he is a dumb, damage generating/absorbing machine. Combine it with a Rooftrellen with two BF and a refresher and everyone is dead meat.

@fatman: Please restrain yourself from making a mini-guide for a comment. Please help improve the guide by pointing out the good and bad about it, and suggest fixes for the bad, if any. Admittedly, the description for mighty swing is ambiguous. Better word it better, donat.

@fatman - Everyone has different ways of playing their heroes. I'm not sure whether donat left out splash because he thinks it weakens your main attack, but it's possible to play magna without getting splash and without getting a bf. Granted it's not what I would do, but this guide is going for tanking so...

@ donat - I see you've put in a perseverance. Later on that could turn into a linkens maybe, since you expect to be targeted (you can see why so many people go bf with magna, cos it's great with his splash and it's kinda natural to get perseverance to spam shockwave then convert into bf). Your tactical descriptions on how to use shockwave are great and I give the MoM a big thumbs up. With your ult+empower you'll do a lot of damage in frenzy mode.

3)Buriza
4)Satanic
5)Hyperstone

When used right with overpower and reverse polerity this can take out almost a whold team at once especially if you have a trent to root

im sorry but i couldnt bare 2 read ne thin else but the item build and stat guide and i new i would agree soz not meanin 2 be rude but with this guy it is ESENTIAL 2 get BF threads and HOT asap not ne of that other stuff(max empower ova stats at the star aswell)

the point of this strategy is to rush in heart and blink dagger and get bf at later parts of the game where you actually have might swing, rushing in , if you actually read the Q&A part you would get the answer to empower, but i will explain more, getting stats means increasing the bonus damage for empower, also increasing your damage, empower early will be good but getting stats will make empower more effective, plus you won't be short on mana for reverse polarity.

Your skill build is definitely wrong! You should get Shockwave then Mighty Swing until you can max these two skills ASAP! Getting Mighty Swing in the late game is a stupid idea coz Mighty Swing is what makes Magnus a farmer by killing all those creeps with a few strikes! Another mistake, why should you buy Power Treads so damn late? It will be a waste! Buriza, Butterfly and S & Y are also good items for Magnus! But the strat is awesome, for that you get a score of 9/10 from me! You can also put Mekansm, Radiance, Eye of Skadi, MKB and BKB! I know and I'm confident that all of these guides will work, you'll just have to believe me for I have played and seen this guy several times already! I have never been defeated even once using Magnus with these item build and strats! I'm not bragging about this, I'm just convincing and persuading you! This comment is too long isn't it? TANK you!

@Donatboy: Can you explain to me why it's not worth getting mighty swing? It seems like it would be good for farming, but my magnus builds tend to feed, so I'm looking for advice from somebody who knows him better.

nice magnus stat man but you could consider going for a battle fury early on for high damage but slitt this is pretty good 8/10

stats instead of mighty swing so that empower increase damage is great and when you get the mighty swing skill empower and might swing works very effectively

This is one of those 5v5 only team-kille heroes. I usually stack up 3 Battle Furies, BoT, Hyperstone, and HoT. Push with your team or just with Enigma. Activate ult, attack attack attack, Enigma ults, attack attack attack. Your high damage with Empower, all of your Battle Furies, and your insane cleaving will kill everything, believe me. Magnus is the best pushing hero and one of the best team-kill heroes.

i would suggest RingoBas early game to spam shockwave, instead of going stats. he really only has 1 skill to spam early game, so thats enough given the low mana cost. Great thing is the RoB can be turned into a Vlad's later in the game, which works great with ur Empower... any melee allies in the vamp aura will benefit from being Empowered that much more, including yourself ^^.

Thanks for pointing out the low mana cost of Shockwave. Will actually want to play him now. This makes him a pretty decent farmer considering Swing, Empower and Shockwave ^^

Battle fury....battle fury....Battle fury.....battle fury..........you absolutely need battle fury in early/mid game, it solves your mana problem by giving you 150% mana regen, coupled with your early stat gains you can succesfully spam your shockwave whenever you please. also synergizes with "empower" and your "might swing" since mighty swing stakcs for 85% splash and empower can also be spammed on yourself so with shockwave, mighty swing, empower, and battle fury, you are a farming machine.

magnatuar needs mighty swing with battlefury hes near unstoppable empower & swing go hand in hand its one of his synergys it helps farming alot, u also need some kind of mana regeneration item or a an energy booster so u can spam shockwave better, and 400 manacost for reverse polarity isnt by any means small w/ this hero and 2 battlefurys and a booster i got a triple dismantling a gank from the other team thanks to reverse, empower, mightyswing+battlefury x2, and shockwave for a finish

Satanic, MoM, both orbies, or is it only when you ACTIVATE MoM that it becomes orb, im not sure, but, i think that those two lifesteals cancel each other out.

you can harass heroes even if they are ranged using shockwave 90 mana cost,good for farming and also hitting heroes

mighty swing is great, its great for farming in the beginning, even if its not that great damage in the beginning, u can get final hit on creeps accidently :D. what if u were against someone who can manaburn in early game? lolz ur screwed cos uve only got stats and shockwave and u cant fight off the creeps that may surround u escape ur exit route. u got empower too late, some people like to attack/gank early because of low attack damage.
if u did this item/skill build, i wouldve chosen any ranged hero to kill u

i go apem, Ring of Bassilus, clearwater, middle lane, or solo top/bottom, wait for creeps + enemies to line up, shock! stats + shock first. sometimes u can get them unsuspectingly its hillarious to get double kills so early
when u go back after using clearwater, make treads and buy ring of regen, then void stone, then make MoM, finish bfury, finish Vlads offering, make heart, then make buriza. games usually over before buriza.

@MH LEE - Concidering the fact that you said get assault or butterfly, and calling donut here not suitable to play DoTa... but... honestly you are the one not suitable to play it man

First thing, why would you buy butterfly for it?
30Damage,30% att speed,30%AGI, 30%Evasion

The damage is nice, so is the att speed,
But for a str hero, dont see the point needing AGI and evasion, because mainly the fact that he is NOT an AGI hero.

Second,
Buying a cuirass isnt something bad, but saying either buying these 2 instead of a MoM ?

Ever concider the price of the items.. since MoM, att speed is covered by the effect of MoM, +run speed and life steal, even though the damage taken could be risky, but asumming you take AC, buying MoM would save you 4760 =.=
and for Butterfly, 4350, enough to make crystalis,BF,Desolator etc...

Donut, why cleaving so late ? Understanble with the sub skill build, just thinking that you could get perseverence making into BF and/or Linkin, if both, making Shockwave 1 hell of a spamming skill

This guy combos really well with heroes with heroes that need the enemy bundled up in an area for a time, like WD, Enigma or CM.
