it's very good and easy to understand strategy...specially you focused on farming... i tried it and with just a single stroke, you can wipe out all the creeps(last hits)...nice one... i give it a 9/10

Your strat is easily understandable and you have good points there. However, constructive critisismn is always good, so I'll put a few points in here too. 1) Early game items: Think of taking RoB (mana reg is fixed 0,65mp/sec) or/and clarities? Shockwave harassing is really easy, and if you have an ally, RoB will help him too. 2) Having BoT means that you can creep neutrals with much less worry. I always pick BoT over treads. 3) Replace MoM with Radiance? Uhhmmmm.... then you wouldn't have any +attackspeed item. And you know, when you have great damage already, it's better to increase attackspeed than attack damage right? I think your damage might go lower with that, even with the immolation.

Nice strats , shock wave + stats is definietly the way to go! but a few things to point out...

1. Perseverance has four advantages: Damage, HP regen, Mana Regen and Recipe Component. - perser do no give damage=X

2. I personally dislike battlefury, magnus doesnt need hp regen instead 2 bracers is suffice . mana regen can be taken care by getting basillus. I mean , if u really like to make magnus a DPS hero, get radiance instead. Because typical, if u blink into a wave of enemies HEROES, and use reverse polarity, the first thing they're gonna aim u bet its YOU. U wont even get a single swing off against a decent team. so radiance is a much better(but boring) item and after that as u suggest hearts is good.

3. Mask of madness furthers weakens you, as imba as the lifesteal is , you are way too vulnerable with + 0 to your str when u farm up mask of madness - no ideal for magnus. If lifesteal is too good to skip, i've prefer helm of dominator --> santanic (at least it gives u +hp)

finally, your tidbits was great =)

But imo, in a more competitive/decent environment, this strat wont be easy to pull off as magnus has no escape mechanism(his ulti cd is ridiculously long) and your build does not provide him with the neccessary hp gain in early/mid game (which is where he shines).

Sorry i forgot to include, empower only increases the damange of your primary base damage and any from your pre-dominant STR/AGI/INT . That means, things like demon edge/claymore damages are not included in empower .

Concur with Wishmaster, do not ever sell MoM. Its impossibly valuable. Not even for a Rapier. OK maybe a Rapier. Good guide, I love Magnus but I need to improve late game (all I do is snatch a Void Stone and get a Pers or two then I get mauled!). 10/10 for you.

I wouldn't really recommend RoB because it makes your creeps tougher, thus you help them push. My guide doesn't recommend that you push too early. However, a Sobi Mask can be used too. As for the boots, I stated my reasons on what to choose. I also recommend BoT over Treads. Radiance over Mask of Madness, why? For more damage. Also, You really wouldn't want to activate Frenzy in a crowd of 20+ mega creeps, would you? I'm not saying that you sell MoM and get Radiance, get it only if you are pushed.

Perseverance gives 4HP/s, 100% Mana Regen, and +7 damage. See item description. Battle Fury is a core item in my build, as it works wonders with Great Cleave. Easier farming and pushing. It is not for DPS. It is for farming and pushing. Mask of Madness is purchased as combination for Reverse Polarity. You can land more hits during the 4-second stun of Reverse Polarity when using Frenzy. Also, it helps destroy towers faster. Magnus is a valuable asset in competitive games. He initiates battles, pushes, and also works as a tank. Blink dagger is your escape mechanism. I never mentioned that Empower increases other damage.
NOTE: PLEASE READ MOAR. Most of the things you mentioned are answered in the strat already. READ!!!

Yes. You will have enough mana regen to spam Shockwave early game when you have Battle Fury. Empower and Mighty Swing are not gotten until later in the game since you don't have a high base damage early game. Please see questions in the Tidbits part of the early game strategy.

I still dont see how battlefury can be used in competitive games , i mean, it doesnt make magnus what he is (a tank). So i am assuming u're making him a pusher and less of a tanker..

I still dont like MOM , i agree with its advantages and everything.. yea.. but in my experiences... magnus can never get all 5 heroes into himself (due to its low AOE and enemies will know not to clutter themselves together -i.e same as when facing sand king) and this can get u killed.. much faster.. i mean.. since u've alraedy recognise his role as a tanker , why not switch MOM for something that makes him a tank..like.. santanic .. or if its too expensive.. something else.. =X annything thhat doesnt make u a non-tanker.

I know it makes you to push, but if you're in a lane with an ally, it would happen anyway. (in 2v1) And if it's 2v2 it comes a bit trickier, but in most of the cases enemies will have only one guy in the "tower hugger" lane.

And I know you might not be able to keep MoM zerg up all time, but replacing it with a hyperstone or something would be a good idea.

This is good. Bulking up Magnataur's attack speed makes him very well synergized with his skills.

erm, quick question. if the enemy team consists of more melees than range, perhaps 3/5, and ur facing a melee hero, would learning mighty swing early help? cause i saw this one guy learning empower and mighty swing during early game, and he managed to wear down the enemy for a kill by just farming. would the concept be sorta like the sandking caustic finale build?

skipping shockwave for early power is very possible by taking empower/cleave alternating. Its a power build which is 100% focused around DPS.

This is a great guide. Only one question/comment - Wouldn't the bracers early game be more appropriate than rush Battlefury? I noticed you don't get the cleave until after lvl 9, and those bracers cannot be underestimated on any hero.

Good Guide, but I disagree with MoM. As others have said, when u blink-reverse polarity you will be in the middle of all your enemies. If u use MoM then, you are probably gonna die. Other than that nice guide, battlefury owns on Magnatuar

i would try and replace 1 bracer with another battlefury u do about 120% splash so, Gank....................I don't think so u could do more damage to a target by attacking the adjacent unit and Magnataur+radiance+2 battlefurys = Easiest farming ever

Great Strat! Made me see a different build for Magna.
Battle fury is a must for this Magnataur! HP and Mana regen + the cleaving.
But I don't agree with maxing out shockwave early since you don't have the mana to spam it. Even with adding stats you and having a perseverance Magna can't still spam the skill. And if you try to use it to harass early on you won't have any mana left for your Ulti at level 6. And shockwave at level 1 or 2 has still very low damage and you can only shoot it thrice the most at early game and its not enough to harass an enemy. If you want to harass an enemy you'll have to wait till its level 3 and you still could only 2 to 3 times with your low mana pool.
I usually max empower and then mighty swing first since empower is spamable even with his very poor mana.
I prefer a vanguard early on for farming. It will help you face creeps without taking a lot of damage from them. Once you get your battle fury its really easy to farm with your empower maxed and cleaving maxed. It will just take 2 - 3 swing to kill an entire creep wave. And with your vanguard you don't have to worry about creeps doing damage. At the same time you finished your BF your shockwave should already be maxed or nearly maxed and Magna already has enough mana to spam shockwave and use his Ulti.
MoM is good but you shouldn't rely on it alone for aspd. I often use hyperstones on him for aspd and Satanic for lifeleech.

Guys guys guys, the thing with MoM is when you use it, you're LIFESTEALING nearly twice as much. That generally overrides being savaged in my experience, and MoM isn't for early game, its for late game when you have a Fury or two and Empower and Mighty Swing. And Battle Fury can totally pwn with nearly any melee hero

But if you max out empower and might swing, that means that you are going to be number one, constantly/time to time hittingn your creeps as to maximize the splash damage, this makes you vulnerable to nukes, disables etc. number two, spamming shockwave doesn't mean using it every time its ready, with perseverance and the extra stat points, you are able to use it EFFECTIVELY from time to time.having shockwave with stats is a better way to ensure taht you will stay alive, becasue if an enemy comes close, the creeps will be attratcted, and shockwave will send him back, as if you haev empower, the bonus is quite feeble, and you wont have anything to counter him, besides your extra creeps. with that said, even if you didn't have battle fury, having perseverance can make you regen enough mana [from harrassing] so you can do a reveres polarity combo.

sorry for double posting, but i forgot to add something, yes, shockwave is weak in the early levels, but better to max it out to 300 damage for 90 mana then to have to max it out mid game

1] MoM -> Satanic = Depends on the situation and your taste. If Heart of Tarrasque isn't enough to tank, you can opt for Satanic.

2] Yes. Criticals are also affected by splash damage.

3] You really don't need Vladmir's Offering for Magnus. Divine Rapier maybe an option, but I don't recommend you go for that. Magnus is not a carry hero anyway. Aegis is a good choice if you want to get tougher. Hand of Midas is not needed as you are already a good farmer hero.

You have a low base damage early game, so Mighty swing ain't worth it. You'll just be splashing about 15 or so damage when you get it so early. Shockwave is enough to harass any melee hero

if ur gonna go with empower and splash early game, buy wraith bands instead of bracers because you want as much attack speed as you can get.

RoB is now normal/hero triggerable, meaning you can turn it off so that it doesn't affect creeps. NO more worrying about pushing your lane too far then if u hop to a 1v2 situational lane, click it again and activate it.

replace MoM with hyperstone, and go for assault curiass after bfury is done. -5 armor w/o an orb (as an aura) is sick!
also, if you're gonna be a massive farmer, buy a chicken. it saves so much time going back to town; just hotkey it and run it to u in safe situations.

another trick i have is, if ur about to die and u know theres nothing u can do, quick double tap the chicken hotkey and buy something before u die and lose the money u can save a lot of money using this technique. AKA more items
ALWAYS know what you're going to buy next, and whenever you have enough money for that item, double tap chicken hotkey and buy it.
The chicken is key cuz u cant hold more than 6 items and transmuting can be a juggling hassle without one.

I personally would get PT instead of BoT (based off of the opponents and team mates) , cuz attack speed allows u to get more swings in, and theyre cheaper. if the game is going well, and your opponents are dumb enough to cross the river alone, you wont even need blink dagger. work for Eye of skadi instead cuz it slows them when attacked.(build this before heart) PLUS while building eye, you get +10,+20 from orb, which stacks nicely with empower.
sneak in behind them with empower casted right before you're in their sight; make sure u time it inbetween waves so that they dont see u from the shared vision of creeps. shockwave from a distance behind them, then smack them a few times as they realize whats happening, and then ult b4 theyre 400 away. when they attempt to run again, IF theyre still alive, shockwave if u have the mana. BAM, owned.

if you're pro enough, you'll be able to farm this. if you're not pro enough, you better be a good item hog when it comes to allies leaving.

yukino good strat, should consider that info tho :)

the rsn i pick hyper instead of mom is cuz hyper is constant and turns into something else, whereas mom has to be triggered and it makes u more vulnerable. its only 300 gold more, anyways.

buriza is sick when you have +300 damage. i can get 900+ crits in at level 16.

man maybe im insane but try out 3 battlefury ( i mean get 2 peserverence from early game its easy to earn money by your wave)with a heart and power tread then get a cuirass... whos bad luck get into your ulti whos die for sure

It's not all about strength, and extra stats with some bracers if you want can easily put you ahead on the HP level. While the lifesteal is good on M.o.M its mainly the 75% increases attack speed, cheap and easy to farm for for some easy pwange. plus, yukino posted that you can go Heart of Tarrasque, Buriza-do-Kyanon, or M.o.M.

Good guide I tried it and its awsome!I even got divine casue of easy farming.

Yea, Magnus is the one of the easiest heroes to farm with..i attack 2 times with empoewr on and all creep bounties mine O_O

why is it that you put in his strengths"high base damage" then you learn empower and cleave later because of "low base damage"

nice guide. i have one very simple and handy point. if you're in a battle, use empower on RANGED heroes first. i just played with bones in my lane and we agreed i would max out empower first, and he did the same with strafe. well, i kept him empowered and it was ownage. remember this guy is a support hero... not a brawler like other str heroes (tiny, leviathan, centaur).

You should've added Witch Doctor to the "Allies Section".
Vol'Jin isn't an AoE nuker nor a DPS hero but Maledict rapes the sh!t out anyone who receives sh!t load of damage (eg. Magnataur's cleave + shockwave).
His ultimate(death ward) gets a bounce at level 3 making it more deadly to bunched up heroes.

Magnus indeed has high base damage but I think its hard farming with him. To begin with, there is always an off set attack animation before the actual damge is done and that always makes me attack to late (creep dies), in that attack animation your opponent can have the chacen to nuke/disable or set up an early gank... i think it would be hard to hit ranger creep and then melee creep when you are against a lane enemy XD. meh, i conclude you're a better farmer than me XD, i usually get battle fury by level 12-15. not level 10. or i just take that alternate build XD.

hey guys try and get battle fury first boots and 2 bracers he is right and dagger aside from getting mask of madness tray ang get the ff: 2 battlefury(super strong cuz cleaving stacks its acttualy has a bigger damage to the person beside that u are not targeting its tru!) then get satanic,dagger,buriza and travel if u have all this items you ad one stong magnus! haha the best build 2 strikes can wipeout all the creeps dont u wont need the shockwave to farm anymore

I'd like 2 add techies 2 the best allied of magnus...Think about it. Wen heroes r pushing, tel techies 2 plant as many bombs as possible. Den, wen all 5 heroes cm, blink in near de bomb n reverse polarity.All de heroes wil be pulled next 2 de bomb. Next is KABBOOOOMMMMM!!!! Triple killx3 If u r de only hero der, wooh, lvl up like hell....n nw, the tables turn. Its ur teams turn 2 push.

BTW, no mention of names, but anyone complaining about BattleFury with Magnataur needs to look very closely at Reverse Polarity. Battlefury is farm heaven, and it's not worth it for this alone. But, if you have a stackable cleave already, and a skill that puts EVERYONE in range of the cleave and Battlefury, AND gives you four seconds of free hits while you activate Frenzy and Empower, you have some HUGE damage potential there. Not only that, you've just disabled the opposition for a whopping four seconds, and your team is still alive to help you out. I totally see by reading this guide why Battlefury is great on Magna.

The real question is CAN you successfully pull of your ultimate...yikes!

i just played a game with magn against a naga. heros who live off clones really get screwed up from reverse polarity mighty swing combo

Well, would u consider lothar's edge over kelen's dagger in respect to cast magnator's ulti more efficiently? Lothar cost (1000 + 1400 + 1400 = 3400) while dagger cost (2150). Cause i noe that there's a maximum range for dagger, and i tend to miss his 400AoE ulti =(
2nd qn: Does getting more than 1 BF stacks cumulatively like 2 BF with mighty swing = 50% + (35% + 35%) = 120%???

Hmm, i dunno bout u guys, but in 1 game, i gt RoB as early game items. With BF and bracer. Mi end game items were vald's offering (to cover for his lifesteal), satanic (for the tanking purposes and extra dmg) and hyperstone (:P haha, i didnt manage to complete AC).
Anyways, this is a gr8 guide! Somewhat follows the harrasser/pusher/tanker strat for magnator. Veri gd! 9/10

Nice Strat, MoM owns!!!

This strat looks like it might solve the problems I've been having. I've empower/swinged in the early game and I just wind up getting raped in the lane. Shockwave and stats will give me more HP and mana and something to keep enemy heroes off my ass.
On the MoM front, I think the best thing to do is to replace it with an Assault Cuirass. You'll do more DPS because of the negative armor aura, you'll be tougher because of the armor bonus, and you will push stronger because your creep will be tougher and attack faster. If you wanna be a good pusher, there really is no better item. If you're desperate for the lifesteal, replace buriza with satanic, although I think the crit is more important than having the lifesteal.
Thanks for this strat, it'll help me get the momentum I need to play well with Magnum more often.

Harro! Your comments are always in-depth and i c ur points. but i have a few things to say about them...

First, magnus is a STR hero, that auto matically means he has above average hp. That and some decent lane control+an awesome nuke with imba mana cost=easy street early game.

Second, skill build is Shockwave+stats resulting in an extra STR again of 2 points evry 2 levels. By lv 8 you have an extra 114 hp just off stats!

Thats what blink dagger is for, the surprise effect and when u use reverse polarity how the heck are they gonna hit you? 4 sec of stun is no laughing matter and that can just what ur team needs to finish off the opposing team. its not just yourself, you have your teammates with you too.

Wait, weren't you talking about survivability? Hp regen is just that, without it your hp will be constantly be dangerously low without that regen to get it back up. The hp regen from 2 bracers is around 1.2 p/sec. Not enough IMO.

Nice strategy 9/10 because i dont like Mom i would rather get satanic and Assault Cuirass instead of that also there is a problem that im having cuz this guy dont have any slower or stunners so if u dont kill them in 4 secs they run away

you mentioned low mana pool as a con, it shouldnt be a problem since the only skill that really uses up mana is his ult and you can only use that every 120 sec

i love the strategy... especially the farming part... noobs can easily master Magnus if they follow this. Since Magnus is a item-dependent freak, farming is indeed the best way.

You Should add Cuirass as optional item for tanking purposes and in heroes as good allies you should put Nevermore since both their ult togheter can make a huge damage.

this is probably a waste of money, but maybe replace MoM with skadi (money providing) because of the slow, you will have a much easier time killing heros

In front of Phantom lancer with Manta syle, Stealth assassin with mantra style and Enchanteress i haven't been able to kill more than one of them with this item build... I'm a beginner at Dota so what can i do against ennemies draining your mana, Slowing your attack speed or disabling your skills with cloods or else ??? (sorry if i made mistakes but i'm not english)

Item build is reaaly good for magnataur, but i think satanic should replace mask of madness, and Cuirass should replace HOT Try it, it is more powerful!!

A, you'll just wreck all the heroes in your 4sec stun. With allies even more.
B. ok, you just cast and already know you wont make, but hey, if you did good, and got BoT, and activate, you'll notice that Magnus is one of the fastest heroes in dota (315ms base) and cause of your stun, they wont catch up, untill you got your blink again^^ IMO, i love this guide, and im a huge magnus fan^^, though the guide didnt bring me much new stuff, only difference is, if im having a little trouble in my lane, i often just get a bottle, gives you some extra shockwave spammage too ;P

coool now i kan slash some of my friends using magnus they will suffeerrrrrr i mean in the game

What a noob. You don't need to build Battlefury on magnataur:S People just level up shockwave and empower till lvl 5 take a cleave and then 6 then another cleave then max out the empower and shock wave and then the other 2 cleave then stats. Because even without the stats mags, has alot of health and damage due to empower. I staart of mags build with Bracers and Threads and continue after there. When you empower and attack instant battle fury. I would farm a Vlads, blink, threads, heart,crits, Either s&y, skardi,Assault Curiass, MKB or another Heart. Depends. These items can be built very very easy how i build him. You can start farmin very early due to empower. When you you're done you're a Tanker ad a Hero Killer. When i built this i empower and blink in to a Rhasta, Silencer, Razor and used my six and attacked one and the cleave killed the rest :S

my skill build is very much like yours, although i adjust it depending on the items present. i stop getting stats once i get a battlefury or if i have at least a perse and a mith. i max out empower before swing since i want my allies to get stronger attacks as well.

i would also like to add another hero on the good allies list, it is vengeful spirit. Swap + rev + empower + his command aura would add u up with a lot of damage. I recently had this game with VS as a teammate. We were already pushing into the enemies base and there was only the two of us going in from the bottom part of our enemies base since our other ally (Nerubian ass) was pushing the top lane. There were three enemies facing us 1. Levi 2.Naga Siren 3. Nerubian weaver. We already had bigger creeps so the three of them took a little damage. I had empower on me and venge was also pretty close to me so my damage then became +250 I had a battlefury a madness and a crystalys. Levi activated his ulti and He and Naga started ganking me, while nerubian weaver started going for venge. After this i immediately activated reverse and madness i attacked levi because he was toughest of them all. the funny thing was, Nerubian weaver died at the same time with levi because of the critical +cleave and naga siren had little life left. venge then stunned naga and i waved my way to a triple kill. anyways nice guide.

hey..i suggest AC on magnus instead of HoT cuz..when your aspd buff from MoM goes off u cant kill heroes anymore due to your low aspd..therefor AC is more preferable compared to HoT..tanks are not about in hp(well hp supports but not all about hp)..its about how hard can the enemies kill you..high hp doesnt guarantee your a tank already..mortred or heroes with permabashers can own u easily and swiftly...
well anyway u get a 8/10 from me

well...replacing your MoM and HoT with AC and satanic IS way way better than my comment above :S

Your item build is great but near end game if i have the money i sell Mask of Madness and get Satanit cause then ur pritty much invincable cause 40% life steal when actavated and if ur in a gank thats quite good cause u also have cleaving attack of 85% and thats all life steal any way I give your guide a 10/10 realy help full and easy to follow

No, in higher level of dota, people try not to push early because A) You can't lane when your creeps are beyond the river. B) It makes it very easy to the other team to setup ganks if their first tower is down. So people try to just stick by their tower and lane up and once their tower is down in hp, deny it. That way, they can just stay around in forest and get back to lane in matter of seconds which would otherwise take them 20 seconds to lane up beyond the river also putting them at risk.

i would suggest getting butterfly at end games. the evasion would be a great help since agi heroes with butterfly are stronger than strength heroes equipped with tarrasque or buriza...

WTF i dont agree with the skill build

I'm not sure if this is a good strategy, but it is fun to get 2x Battlefury (or more). The 2BFs combined with the Mighty Swing splashes more damage that you yourself do to the things you attacked. You kill the other creeps faster. very fun to play. And if you have Buriza as well, pretty awesome.

I will test this strategy and get BF,MOM and Burrizza do-kyanon!!

bloody hell... magnus is the only dota hero I havent used yet(I even used gambler). And wow, a 4 second stun, and empower a support skill? 300dmg for 90mp? This hero is overpowered. And I love it. You have one heckuva good guide here. Very well done. You list all the necessary details. But btw, yea blink dagger can be used to go in for the kill, but not anymore for escaping in the recent nerf on it. So anyway, 11/10

btw, I don't know why no one likes MoM, but o-kay... If you push away an item that gives a super attack speed and an accelerated lifesteal... Oh well, happy playing your game

I get 5 kills in a team battle often with Magnus if I farmed up exactly how you have said in this guide. OFTEN adn only pausing to help defend.

MoM, 2 x BURIZA'S, Battlefury, Assualt Cuirass, Treads of Strength.

Unless disabled, you'll kill everything in your path (and cleaving those behind it)

Ok I just rechecked your guide and you missed something I do when aiming for 5 kill ult.

Aim for a hero that doesn't have evasion e.g. Void. That is a complete waste of time.

Attack the hero you want e.g. their tank, then ULT. As you hit their tank, 85% hits the other weak heros and kills them and you will not miss heros like void.

Another reason I aim at a hero before ulting is because if you click move to position and ult before getting there, he will move there and not attack til thr

The reason I get 2 Buriza's is because you make the most of your ult by getting as many crits and splash as possible (MoM and Assualt help chances with many many hits in polarity's time)

I like to get treads of int @ beginning to help with shockwave spam (many double kills with this)
