So you chose to read this guide. Excellent. Maybe because it’s the only guide we have for this particular hero. MONOPOLY! Mwahaha!
Anub'arak, The Nerubian Assassin.
Don’t let that smile fool you! He’s a killer!
Anub'arak's purpose in life is to gank, gank, eat ice cream and gank. He lurks in the shadows, stalking his prey; and when you least expect it, in a flurry of skills he delivers a killer set of blows that’ll decimate you before you can even say ‘lolwut’! (A fantasy come true for you ninja wanna-be's out there.) Anub’arak is the physical manifestation of ‘gank’, that’s his primary objective in the game. Gank gank gank! Come on, say it with me. With feelings! GANK!
An analysis of our favorite bug:
STR: 18 +2 BAT: 1.38
AGI: 19 +2.2 Range: 128
INT: 18 + 2.1 Move Speed: 300
(no items, with stats and spiked carapace)
Excellent Lane Control
One of the best hunter/gankers In the game
Not newb friendly
Needs LIGHTNING FAST REFLEXES
Useless late game
Impale is your one and only disable. Use it wisely. Use it as an initiator for your ally to chain disables that are hard to use (LSA, Split Earth, Hoof Stomp). This skill will be useful throughout the game, and AoE stun with decent damge that can get you creep kills at the same time. You can also use this to farm by casting it on dying creeps.
More fun with impale!
It is now very possible to do this:
It's also important to know when to cast Impale, especially against enemies withchanneling spells; as it could save lives, including your own.
Celebrity guest appearance!
Pretend that I didn't try to get the kill using Mana Burn.
This skill is unique to Anub’arak and is what makes him notorious. It’s range and damage increases per level and is dependent on how much mana your target has. With a 6 second cooldown, you prevent your take your enemy’s edge, giving you early game lane dominance.
Your tanking skill. Well, your off-tanking skill. Great against melee heroes, but the armor bonus is what you really want.
Your bread and butter skill. Your opponents tremble when they don’t see you in the map. Perfect to start your combo barrage.
Tangoes and clarities are a must to maintain lane dominance. Grab a couple of circlets and fill the remaining slots up with branches.
On your first few fountain trips(or if you have a chicken/crow)
Top or Bottom lanes are preferred, but you can go mid as long as you don’t solo. Try to have a lane partner as much as possible, this could lead to an early kill by chaining disables on enemies who can’t fight back coz you took their mana.
Last Hit and Deny! Don’t know what that means? Go here:
Ghosts’s guide to Dota: http://dotastrategy.com/forum/ftopic10674.html
Level 2 Mana Burn against early game nukers/disablers such as Rylai will render their spells useless. If int heroes bow down to your green light for agony, what if you use them against str/agi heroes? You can easily cripple tanks with deadly disables, making them useless chunks of meat in early ganks/clashes.
Use Impale when a bunch of enemy creeps area about to die to get the gold and harass the enemy at the same time since your creeps will focus on the stunned enemy.
If laned with a disabler, chain your disables to get an early kill!
The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.”
You are now level 6/7 and you’re itching to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin.
Asses the situation first.
Here’s a little checklist:
Do you have enough mana to execute your combo?
Note that you might have to use Mana Burn twice if your target survives your initial combo.
Assuming that you’re level 7:
Vendetta(lvl1): 160, Impale(lvl4):155 Mana Burn(lvl2): 80 = 395 Mana
+ Another Mana Burn(lvl2): 80 = 475 Mana.
Anub'arak has a starting mana of 234, and gains 27 per level. At level 7, he has 397 mana, not much to go around. Remedy this by getting Bracers or Nulls.
Will the enemy die from your assault?
You wouldn’t want to waste time, mana and cool down just for your enemy to escape with 2hp.
Vendetta(lvl1): 225dmg, Impale(lvl4): 300dmg, Mana Burn(lvl2): 120 damage Total = 645 damage.
If you factor natural spell resistance(Impale & Mana Burn), the total damage would only be 540 damage from your skills.
Assuming that you hit your target at least 3 times with an attack of 62-69 at level 7, your total damage output from your combo should be around ±700 Damage.
Don’t try to take on STR heroes alone. You’ll just waste your time and mana. Go for easy prey like fragile INT/AGI heroes like Kardel or Lina.
Does your target have enough mana for you to burn?
No? Then stop spamming thy Man Burn! Make sure that your target has enough mana for 2 full burns before you charge in.
You wouldn’t want this to happen to you:
Do you have a nearby an ally/allies that can assist?
Ask your ally to tenderize your target first to ensure a kill, it’s possible to have two frags if you chain disables. Let him have the other one, of course.
Will you live through this? Do you care if you’ll live or not?
Sure you got a double kill, but Poison Nova + Rocket Flare killed you. Was it worth it? Up to you lol.
Step 1: Vendetta! Position yourself at your enemy’s smelly rear, then attack!
Step 2: Impale!
Step 3: Mana Burn!
You need to be able to execute this within 3 seconds or less. If your enemy survives the initial barrage, just mana burn again.
When to use Vendetta:
Vendetta isn’t just a ganking skill, you can use it to escape ganks and counter-ganks. Don’t forget that it gives you extra MS and gives you 0 unit collision, so you can catch with your prey.
Beating him to the Illusion rune, I used Impale and Mana Burn.
I whacked him a few times before using vendetta to catch up.
Impale to finish.
This is your first core item. You’ll need this along to be able to hunt constantly with fewer trips to the fountain. Runes appear every 2 mins. ABUSE IT!
Caspian’s rune guide:
It is important for you to acquire a Dagon as early as possible, I cannot stress this enough. Through good farming skills and continuous ganks, it’s possible to get a Dagon at level 10, a perfect time to hunt for heroes coz your impale and mana burn are already maxed out.
Go back to the checklist.
When you acquire your dagon, don't go rushing in and do a combo recklessly, compute your mana. Dagon’s burst is a whopping 245 Mana! A big problem with your little mana pool.
Vendetta(lvl2): 210 mana, Impale(lvl4): 155 mana, Mana Burn(lvl4): 115 Mana, Dagon1: 254 mana.
Total: 734 Mana.
Assuming that you’re already level 10 or 11, there shouldn’t be any problems if you already have 2 bracers, you wouldn’t be able to pull off a second mana burn without using your bottle though. If you opted for nulls, you’ll still have enough mana for another spell after your initial barrage.
Vendetta(lvl2): 375dmg, Impale(lvl4): 300dmg, Mana Burn(lvl4): 260dmg, Dagon1: 400 dmg. Total = 1335dmg.
After factoring spell resistance: 375 + (300*.75) + (260*.75) + (400*.75) = 1095dmg from your skills.
Add in 3 normal attacks(again, armor not factored): Total: ±1295 damage.
Just like the basic combo, just use Dagon as your finisher
Step1: Vendetta, position yourself. ATTACK!
Luna: On noes!
Step2: Impale + Mana Burn.
Gondar: My purpose in this game is to stand still.
Step 3: Dagon!
Orochi: NOM NOM NOM
Gondar: wtf just happened?
Step4: GTFO! You need leave combat as fast as you got in. Gondar didn’t react in time because it happened so damn fast. I activated haste just before entering combat.
Now replenish your mana and start hunting again!
Your role in early game clashes is to turn the tide. 3 enemies suddenly apperaed to gank 2 of your allies. Unbeknownst to them, you’re lurking in the shadows, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. Decimate the main damage dealer of the enemy, which at this stage of the game is usually a disabler/nuker. Thus making it a 3 vs 2 battle on YOUR favor.
Once you acquire a Dagon, don't be too greedy just because you can kill almost any lone hero every time your Vendetta cools down. Yes, you need to Gank and Hunt, but you need to balance it with farming and getting exp. No need to go to the other side of the map just to kill an enemy that your comrades can handle. Know when to leave your lane to kill, and when to farm safely. If an opportunity presents itself, then by all means take it. Keyword: Balance.
-Replenish your mana after every kill, you'll never know if someone is planning a counter-gank and you need your impale and mana burn in order to escape.
-GANK! HUNT! PURGE! CLEANSE! KILL! Abuse thy Vendetta, it's your purpose in this game. But don't be too reckless you'll end up getting killed if you're too reckless.
-After a couple of kills with your Dagon, you should get Perseverance asap so you can GANK SOME MORE! Less trips to the fountain.
If you did very well:
