Hey, I'm Airbox and this is my first DotA Strat guide. I'm only doing it because the 3 Morphlinhg guides which are available are 3 years old and outdated. Plus Morphling seems to be a big pick these days and finally i'm on work placement for the next 2 weeks with nothing to do so hopefully this shall occupy me. READ THIS FIRST. To begin, I wasn't copying Flodian's guide name thing, I was using the power ranger theme cos it used to be pwnage. I'm also not a kid, I'm 20 years old and I didn't actually have access to DotA while on work experience so decided i'll write a fun guide on how you could (or could not) play Morphling, it is in no way serious as Morphling isn't one of my mains, he's someone I played with casually a few times so thought i'd stick a guide up so people could read it. Like it or loathe it, flame it or bump it, doesn't really bother me. The reason behind the lack of screenshots and pictures is due to not being able to run DotA while in work exp. I understand it's not a 10/10 guide at all. I never did it to get ratings, it's a bit of fun, which is how I play DotA. It's not real life ladies and gents, it's a lot of coding made into pretty pictures and sounds. I do appreciate all of the comments so be my guest, but writing OMG SH*T GUIDE isn't helping anybody, not that I mind it, though it does take up pages when people could be putting down comments to improve the guide (so if you did i thank you). Anyway thanks for reading in advance.

Skill Build

Early Game:

So it's that time again, you've either randomed or picked wee Morphy.  First you need to establish which lane you are going to go to.

Sentinel

Top/Mid/Bot

Scourge

Top/Mid/Bot

As you can see for the Sentinel going top is an ok choice, middle is not to happen and bottom is a nice little spot to farm away.

Scourge however are the opposite, top is the best choice, mid still a no go and bottom is ok.

Picking Morphling

So you've picked him, got 603 gold to spend.

Circlet of NobilityCirclet of NobilityAncient Tango of EssifationAncient Tango of EssifationIronwood Branch

I'm quite fond of this starter build for a lot of heroes.  2 circlets which can later then be upgraded to Bracer/Nul + tangoes if you get hungry. And of course a gg branch because if you hold one you get a good game. Believe everything you read online.

Other possible builds

Ironwood BranchIronwood BranchIronwood BranchIronwood BranchIronwood BranchAncient Tango of Essifation

+5 stats and tango stacking.  If you really want to stay in lane this is good.

BracerAncient Tango of Essifation

If you want to rush bracer by bracer this is a way to do it but i wouldn't recommend this.

If you randomed Morphling then of course you can go for the glorious Ring of Health With awesome lane staying

capabilities you can't complain, you could make this into Vanguard if you really want but you would just delay your core items.

Boots of SpeedAncient Tango of Essifation Oh, em, gee? Not worth explaining.

So buy now i'm hoping you've found your way to the lane.  If you get lost maybe you should ask for directions?  Don't get lost!

Creep blocking

Caspian has a great creep blocking tutorial, check it out here;  http://www.dotastrategy.com/forum/ftopic3845.html

Last hitting/Denying

I'm sure there are plenty of guides on how to last hit and deny.  In brief last hitting is where an enemy creep is at red health and you last hit it for the gold and extra xp, this is invaluable, learn to do this.

Denying is much the same apart from you need to press your attack key and target your own creep when it is nearly dead to deny the enemy gold and some xp.  A little ! will appear above the creeps head if you did this correctly.

Bear in mind when using Morphling you only have a range of 350, so yes you are ranged but you haven't got 600 range.

Harassing

This can be great fun but turn nasty in a minute when using Morphling.  The point of harassing is to use your range to attack other heroes who maybe can't do the same back, although once you hit the enemy hero their creeps will auto-attack you.  If this happens try to drag them to your tower.

Laning

So in an ideal world you can lane alone with no-one opposing you, but you're not playing single player so wake up.  There are several options that now behold you.

1 melee

Not an issue, last hit, deny and harass the hero as much as possible

2 melee

Same as above just make sure you don't get over confident, if the enemy has a ranged stun make sure you don't get caught out.  Remember waveform can be used to escape!

1 melee 1 ranged

This will be one of the most likely options you will face when laning, just do your best to last hit and deny, if the ranged hero dissapears for any amount of time harass but make sure they are not coming up behind you for a gank.

2 ranged

Well it certainly isn't your lucky day now is it?  These guys will more than likely have better range than you so may harass you, just last hit and deny, if you are getting harassed too heavily a lane swap is always an option.

Waveform

Being a high dps agi hero your mana pool isn't overly big so you can use a spell once before you're on too low mana to do anything else.  So be cautious in this, don't run in attack, waveform and end up tower diving to give away first blood.

End of early game

  Bracer   Bracer
  Power Treads

Option 1 - 2 bracers + PT complete.  If you are looking for the extra toughness and MS this is the way forward

  Bracer   Bracer
  Boots of Speed   Yasha

Option 2 - It's not likely you will have Yasha but you have to aim high.

On the small chance you have raked up a few kills and last hit every creep in your lane and farmed anything better well keep it up!

only base stats can be morphed

stats from items can never be changed

271 By tasik 2010-08-07

ya bracers makes absolutely no sense. remember u can also buy WraithBand and then change 3 points from agi to str. but pay only 460 for WraithBand while u pay 510 for bracers.

270 By alick12345 2010-07-13

why would you ever get bracers over wraiths on morphling... the MORPHling.

269 By r431 2010-07-12

@268:
decent explanation; but I'm revising it a bit...

Morphling is a solid whole-game hero who can carry on late-game but also perform exceptionally early to mid-game thanks to his tankiness, blink and nuke. He is categorized under image heroes.

Core Builds:
1. Boots of Travel; farming, ganking tool + MS carries on to images.
2. Manta Style; your carrying quality. Allows replicating images.
3. Heart of Tarasque; beef up your images.

Situationals:
- BKB
- Butterfly
- Linken
- sheep stick.

;)

ranged illusions don't have manaburn

267 By Masked_Lord 2010-07-12

Morp is whole-game hero. .Early game he nukes with waveform, and becoming hard to be pwned (thanks to waveform). .Mid game he ganks with ally. .Late game he becomes a monster. .Use morp when u 're escaping,8str/sec=8*19 hp/sec gaining. .
My build:
-p.Treads
-linken sphere
-manta
-diffusal blade
-butterfly if game is not over yet. .
Why diffusal?. Morp is slow at ms,so make your enemy slower is good choice..Also bonus stats and mana burn.
Why linken?. Don't ask me if u're pro.!
Why manta?.Max your mana burn ,good to blind your enemy, use this after u use morp to gain str, then replicate your image. .Your 3 images is about 2000++hp. .Then change back into agility(use this trick few seconds before war)your image is like the real hero for enemy as if he hit,his attack seems not so painful. .

Less str early on means you die faster

265 By darenwsi15 2010-07-12

changing your str. to agi by morph skill is good too from early to mid game but you must aim first on farming on creeps and avoid heroes, so that you'll get a good items or locked items by end game. specially if you're a game carrier.

264 By Silversong 2010-06-17

What about using the ring to finish linkens? If you're a damage-putter-outer, you don't want to be caught with your pants down, so I think this may well be worth it. Seen it used in league a lot, too.

263 By BTP.Eliot 2010-06-08

if your farming is fast get diffusal blade rather than HoD .. just my opinion

262 By 9dracula9 2010-05-12

update this guide and add etherial blade as core item!

yeah man I sort of didnt feed as usual using morphling in ur guide.thx

260 By rtkj97 2010-05-06

interesting!!

259 By evd93 2010-05-06

Skadi is based on the slow from the forst wyrms, and it might say it's an orb, but it doesn't work like one, atleast not for ranged i think.. right?

258 By Zaggiertjukkur 2010-05-02

Since when did Flodian have patent on "GoGo"? "GoGo" is a part of the Power Rangers slogan. If there was anything wrong in this guy using the slogan, then it'd be removed by the mods.

What a wannabe Flodian guide

256 By Blade1 2010-04-30

i think skill build sux ... early game u have no agility for adaptive strike .. this skill build is for me before 8 lvl
