The Necrolyte releases a wave of death from the core of his being, dealing damage to enemies and healing allies.
Level 1 - Deals 75 damage and heals 50 HP.
Level 2 - Deals 125 damage and heals 75 HP.
Level 3 - Deals 200 damage and heals 100 HP.
Level 4 - Deals 275 damage and heals 130 HP.
• Damage type: magical
• Death Pulse can't be evaded by moving or blinking.
• Can heal magic immune units.
• Area of Effect: 400/450/475/500
Mana Cost: 125/145/165/185
Comment: The bread and butter skill you have in your arsenal. This skill is very helpful when pushing, harassing and (possibly) hero killing... Just note that its range is around 450 so you have to walk near the creeps in order to have the maximum effect.
The deathly air stills the hearts of his opponents, causing them to lose a percentage of their max health over time.
Level 1 - Deals 0.4% of the max HP of the target per second.
Level 2 - Deals 0.6% of the max HP of the target per second.
Level 3 - Deals 0.8% of the max HP of the target per second.
Level 4 - Deals 1.0% of the max HP of the target per second.
• Damage type: HP removal
• Damage counts as negative regeneration, and will thus not disable abilities or items like Kelen's Dagger which requires player based damage.
• Area of Effect: 1000
Mana Cost: N/A
Comment: Very important to have since it will solve Necrolyte's pathetic mana regen... Also, I don't max this out immediately for item purposes but yes, it is a very important skill to have...
Reveling in death and pain, the Necrolyte gains mana back for killing units.
Level 1 - Regains 12 mana.
Level 2 - Regains 24 mana.
Level 3 - Regains 36 mana.
Level 4 - Regains 48 mana.
• Sadist is also triggered by denies.
Mana Cost: N/A
Comment: A good skill in keeping your team alive especially when they are mostly melee heroes, however it can be delayed if you don't have any/a lot of melee heroes since stats can be really helpful.
Brings a target to full realization of its own mortality, dealing damage based on how much life the target is missing. Stuns for 1.5 seconds.
Level 1 - Deals 0.4 (0.6*) damage per hit point missing and stuns.
Level 2 - Deals 0.6 (0.9*) damage per hit point missing and stuns.
Level 3 - Deals 0.9 (1.2*) damage per hit point missing and stuns.
• Damage type: magical
• Damage is dealt at the end of the stun.
• Disable works on magic immune units.
• Casting range: 600
• Can be improved by Aghanim's Scepter (* shows the improved values).
Mana Cost: 175(150)/340/500
Cooldown: 100/85/70 (70 at all levels with Scepter)
Comment: Your most powerful (it's an ultimate, DUH???) skill for hero killing. This is very bad for your opponents since you can kill tanks and weak Int heroes with ease.

60 Movement Speed
30 Attack Speed
8 Selected Attribute
Active: Switch Attribute
Switches the attribute that receives a bonus. From Strength to Intelligence, Intelligence to Agility, and Agility to Strength.
Note: Can only carry one. Movement speed bonus doesn't stack with Boots of Travel, Phase Boots, Power Treads, or Boots of Speed.
Boots of Speed + Gloves of Haste + Boots of Elvenskin or Robe of the Magi or Belt of Giant Strength
Since this is a battle build for Necrolyte, you will benefit more from the increase in attack speed of PT than the movement speed increase given by BoT.
Helm of the Dominator (1850)
- 15% lifesteal on attacks
- Orb effect
- Brings the target non-hero non-ancient unit under your control
- Dominated unit lasts indefinitely, until it is killed or replaced
- Can only have one dominated unit at any time
- Dominated unit is not able to block other units from moving
- Spells last the same duration on Dominated units as they would on a hero
- Manacost: 75
- Cooldown: 60 seconds

Helm of Iron Will + Mask of Death
Your most essential item in staying in your lane. More will be explained on the guide below.

Eye of Skadi (5675)
Passive: Cold Attack
- Causes attacks to slow the movement speed of the target by 30% and attack speed by 20%.
- Lasts 5 seconds
- Orb effect
- Buff placer
- Lasts 3 seconds
- Buff placer
2x Ultimate Orb + Point Booster + Orb of Venom
This will work well with Necrolyte's skills since the only thing he lacks is bash or slow and this gives you a slowing mechanism to help with Hero Killing.
Skill Build Explanation:
Max out Death Pulse(DP) first to enable easier farming and harassing. Remember to add levels to Diffusion Aura(DA) even if there isn't any melee heroes because it still helps in pushing... Why put levels in Sadist yet not max it after DP? Because even if Sadist is important, survival is also a must so you need levels in DA... Plus, you really don't spam DP that much due to the fact that your mana is still low early game so you really wouldn't need the effect of Sadist maxed out. Finally, you get Reaper's Scythe(RS) at every opportunity since its effect is very powerful at each level...
Note, When you deny your own creep, the effect of Sadist is still applicable.
With roughly around 550 gold to start with (Depending on the mode...) you should buy the ff. Items....
225 + 55x3 + 80x2 =556 gold
Choosing a Lane:
I prefer going solo to the bottom lane for Sentinel or Upper Lane for Scourge since I have a chicken so going home should not be a thing you do... I must stress the importance of maximizing the use of your chicken since you did spend 225 gold on it. If you can't stay in your lane and you go back to the fountain a lot, then don't buy the chicken cause it will be a waste of money...
Early Game Farming:
Early game, your damage is very low, therefore you need to time your attacks well. Take note of his slow attack speed (at first) and please make sure that you avoid being hit at all times! Your Hp is not high! You are an Int Hero so you need to play like one! Stay behind your ranged creep and do your best to deny andlast hit! Especially when you have Sadist.
Question, I'm Level 3, do I use Death Pulse to last hit creeps?
No, you don't. Why? Because chances are, (If you're just starting at DotA) you would either only kill one creep, (The one your creeps are concentrating on) or your enemy might deny his/her creeps (The one's who survive at very low life after DP) if you're not careful... So i suggest you save DP when you are at around Level 5 unless you are positive that you can kill two or more creeps with your level 2 DP...
Question, How can I use DP to tower rush?
Yes, but it can be quite risky, let me explain. See, if you have cast DP, you both damage enemy creeps (And heroes if any) and heal friendly units around you. But since it's AoE is small, you need to get close enough to cast it right and this is where the problem comes in.
Scenario One: Bad Pushing Technique with DP
You are pushing near the enemy's tower and to push harder, you come close, you cast a Level 3 DP to heal your creeps for 100 Hp but you get hit by the tower twice, 100-130, you actually get damaged by thirty in the process! Now imagine this, same situation but with an enemy hero defending the tower, you would get a higher damage depending on your enemy!
So yes, it's possible to tower rush, especially if you are at a high level (Around 14) but until then, you should be very careful when doing it. Example:
Scenario Two: Good Pushing Technique with DP
You are pushing near the enemy tower (Again) and this time there is an Enemy Drow Ranger against you. You want to tower rush so you cast a Level 3 DP between your melee and ranged creep (You are careful so you don't go too close...) and even if you don't damage the enemy hero, you fulfill the purpose you had in mind,PUSHING, not Killing...
Question: I'm Neutral Farming at around level 8, an enemy shows up trying to kill me, how do I get away?
Necrolyte doesn't have any escaping spell so you have two options: 1.) If your Hp is too small from neutral creeping and have around 350 mana, either you immediately cast DP (To heal yourself) when he is close enough to be hit (So the enemy will be damaged as well..).. or cast RS on the enemy to stun him... Either way, run away in the direction easiest for you but make sure to cast DP(While running) every time the enemy is in range and every time you have mana.. or 2.) If your HP is near full and you have around 500 mana.Same procedure as in #1 but instead of running, fight him one-on-one while asking for a teammate to come help and readying your RS... This may result in the enemy dying, not you..
Continue to save up money. By Level 7 (Hopefully you are getting enough last hits...), you should have 2500 gold and this is when you buy:
Justification on THIS item...
Helm Of Dominator? WTF???
Yes, Necrolyte is an Int hero, yes he doesn't have that great of an attack speed, however, this item solves many issues regarding Necrolyte. 1.) His low armor, whenever faced against stunners, Necrolyte usually doesn't last long becuae of his low armor, this item solves that. 2.) Staying in your lane, Imagine this, you have life steal for Hp regen and you have Sadist for mana regen, need i say more? This is why I always need a chicken for this build, I don't go home at all! (Unless I'm defending... LOL) 3.) His low health, If you want to increase his life, you can upgrade it to a Satanic to boost his HP. and lastly, 4.) For Hero KIilling, This item rocks with DA and DP. Why? First you have DA, reducing your attackers damage by 36% (At max level) Second, DP, damaging your opponent and healing you at the same time and Tadah!!! Lifesteal, you would be slowly tearing down your enemy's Hp while you increase your own! If that isn't irritating, i don't know what is! Plus you have RS to chop their heads off! Ownage!!!
Note: This Build (With HoD) is best used in 1v1 matches since there wouldn't be any interference to the fight but it can still be used effectively in team battles...
