Ok. This is a great guide, good idea build and all, details, but I dislike the skill build. Not downgrading the guide, I'm giving this 10/10.
But... have you at least considered the other ways to play Puck? If you have Orb and Rift, you have excellent lane control and almost never need to Phase Shift. Thats me though.
Considering this lane control, its unbelievably easy to farm up, say, Skadi, as your first item. So you have something like RoR, RoB, Boots... EoS? Your way is another I've seen though. All good.
What happened to me, the last time I went Puck, I had 9-0 at one point (ended with 11-1), and I get 4v1'd. I had one level into Phase Shift. So they use all their ultimates on me, but as I am the team tank - something to do with two ultimate orbs and significant level advantage - they hardly do much, perhaps half-hp. And then... I use the lvl1 PS. They lose me. I run down a path, use Orb, Jaunt to it after a few seconds. I have Boots, some of them have BoT and they have Lycan, and they can't catch me like this. So just consider that application of PS as well - when I randomed Pudge, lvl4 PS for their Puck just gives me more time to sit on him. Lvl1 would have thrown me off completely.
As I have said, this is a 10/10 guide. Just because I use a different build doesn't mean its a bad guide, which I know some total fools will shortly post.
omg!
Some pics would be nice too.......keep up the good work.......
8/10 for me
You made some fast work with Puck.
This is pretty impressive, considering how recent Puck was introduced to DotA.
Length wise, it's pretty short, though to-the-point.
You could describe things more, but other than that, 9/10
=]
Good guide, needs more variation on the item build, but I like how you explained tactics against some enemies. I'm still going to give this a 10/10 nonetheless. However, in my opinion, you only need level one of Phase Shift until later on, and autocast it, so it nullifies nukes, takes tower or creep aggro off you, etc. whenever possible. If lets say you are going against Zeus, Zeus will spam you but your autocast in Phase Shift will, most of the times, nullify the damage. So rather than using it as a "cyclone" effect, use it as a "damage negation effect". Phase Shift can be a bad thing if you autocast it when it's higher than level one, lets say you are being chased and have low hp, the enemy nukes you, then you phaseshift, but the enemy catches up, you die. Anyway, good job!
I completely agree with Serathil's post, despite not having considered all of those possibilities before. Likewise, I also agree with laelion that this was very fast work... on the other hand I was considering it myself ^^. Four games with him and they were something like 12-3 14-2 2-5 11-1 and the bad one was nearly the best on my team at the time, feeling pretty confident. I'll see how this one goes, might do a Treant guide instead.
yeah, good strat. But Puck is still imba anyways. i hope it gets balanced soon
Lol,nice strat 10/10!!
Wow very good. But i think they increased the cooldown on Wanning Rift and they also lowerd his int gain. NERFSTICK has just hit teh Puck. Still. He's an awesome hero. And this is a good strat. 27/27
Enjoyed reading the guide. I have found out Vanguard is near compulsory, due to his lack of Health Points, he is rather easy to be focused fired on if disabled. I used Puck in a scrim, and he is such an easy hero to last hit with. A good read, haha Treads are Bad!! Agreed!! Puck with Heart is funny, imba regen whilst Phase shifted!!
im not so sure about linkens because if someone casted spell on you i think it triggers both the linken sphere and your phase shift but linken sphere can save you from Doom and other negative buffs.i agree with having lvl1 phase shift only at the start you don't need it much max phase shift after you maxed illusory orb and wanning rift that would be lvls11-15.anyways nice guide!!
@Serathil on autocast phase shift, phase shift is canceled out while running so you don't need to wait for 3s just keep running and autocast phase shift while running with low hp can save you from assassinate and wrath.
good strategy. il love it. thanks for sharing it to us.
good guide!!!i give it 8/10. same guide as u but i put lvl 1 PS 1st and start to max it once i maxed the rest. I bought Dagon, BoT, EoS, and Guinsoo. and i owned. ur guide could use some pics though. Continue improving!!!!
Great guide... kind of gives me more of a reassureance and some idea on how to use puck ;)
@Eustace: Are you sure you rated it a 10/10?
Sir, I want to know if autocasting Puck's phaseshift is advisable becoz I always do that except if there's no hero around..... Or u could give advice more techniques in using the phaseshift effectively in situations like gangbang..... and i hate confronting heroes who are really battle type....
Especially Balanar and Priestess.....
not to much detaited...
can't find combo..
screenies maybe???
to much reading...

Well, congratulations for making a guide on Puck so quickly....
I definitely agree with most of your strat, especially the items and the overall strategy....
It's a very good guide, and you explain most things very well, and the best of all, you included how to "survive" a lane with an enemy Magina on it....
Great guide man, 10/10 from me
(however, among the enemies you should avoid, I believe you should include nukers like Tinker, or Lina... Those guys can simply wait until your Phase Shift ends and quickly obliterate you.... Especially Tinker, since he can afford "wasting" the skills because of rearm....)
Very Useful Guide..
Well put.. Two thumbs up bro!
Yeah pics would be nice..
(I just hope they do a good balancing to mr.puck..)
Well, Puck is a decent hero. And this guide matches his decency. I like the two "easy" and "hard" tactic/ fake blink. Not sure y u would need blink dagger but w.e I havent run into a great puck player as of late, hopefully this guide will bring out some better players! A question though...if axe casts hunger on puck when his PS is down, does puck go into PS every time the cooldown is over? if so, axe would be a good counter to puck, despite his point and click skills.
Nice guide, 10/10, but I agree with Artimon, Blink Dagger is unnecessary, you could just get a mana boosting item and use Illusory Orb more often.
Vanguard...Why Not?
2 Bracers and a Platemail gives better EHP. you all ready take a ring of regen. so you dont need the regen. either.
You guys... sigh. SIGH. I thought you would pay more attention...
You: Bracers and a Platemail costs more, and takes three slots. Nothing wrong with a Vanguard except that hes put it in the late-game items area (...).
You guys: Blink Dagger is one of the items hes labeled as "These might be useful if you really like them but personally I don't see these very necessary for Puck." Optional items in other words.
That is all.
No screenies??
No dream item build?? I understood you pointed out the main item such as guinsoo. It would be better if you'll gonna come up with your dream items as well...
should add skadi on the build
should add skadi on the build
Read The Guide. Skadi is in the build in the conclusion section (not read) and he says at the end of the main build that the other items are optional and will be explained further. I quote 'more about them later.'.
Skadi is added, though...
i think magina would win. im a magina player and i pwned puck laods of time and neva got killed by one since i buy twin bashers. but it really depends on the player though. herher
Phase Shift is too early to be your 2nd skill but I like the guide! But Do you think power treads would be the substitute for the boots of travel? And wraith bands too?
gud guide. use scadi for this guy.
8/10
i agree with shimrra_3. the skill build sux
the illusionary orb is supposed to be comboed with waning rift. and i recommend dagon cause it deals 400 dmg, and becomboed with ur illu-waning-ulti
it's a great guide, but there are other ways of playing puck. 8/10
in early game it is easy to have lane control with Orb and rift. If you put Phase shift on auto cast it automaticaly avoids spells - if they do not animation cancel or anything.
eg. storm bolt. the hammer is flying, phase shift auto casts and it misses. much easier than timing.
okay, instead of using sux, ill change it into nt too good.
assuming ur illu/waning/ulti are max, withdagon, the dmg will be 1320 dmg, witout the normal atk of puck adn ur teammates. thats big.
although nt worth it, i pump my dagon to lv 5, wich makes the dmg 1720, thats alot, couting that ur ulti take a little time to recharge.
I might revise my opinion of Phase Shift, I just played a game where someone fled for about a whole minute in a 2v1 or 3v1 with excellent Phasing and they had a speed advantage from hell. I personally still like the lane control better though.
That above post wasn't there when I typed my previous comment!! I get to double post!!
@ yan + anyone else considering Dagon = I don't know for sure how well that would work considering how low hp Puck is. You need to be on top of the game, they go for you instantly since you have 4-0 or whatever so you need to tank it out somehow - either with items, or with Phase Shift: and if you have all the nukes (I still think this is better) you won't have much Phase Shift. So you are a hella powerful nuker but are also piss weak and have nothing to counteract THEIR nukes. Still could work, but imagine how weak Pugna is, then lower his speed and make him have no healing skill (Life Drain).
Anyway, consider all that. I might try Dagon see how it is.
ok, nice Guide.. my guide should be the first here haha
but the browser bug is not fixed yet..
so.. for me 8/10
why maximize phase shift early game? to escape harass and nukes? better leave at lvl 1 and maximize wanning rift for the combo with the orb and POOF! FIRST BLOOD!
PUCK should be aggresive, not just to harrass but to get the first blood! at lvl 4 or 5!
@Guide Maker
You are very fast
! I'm planning to make a pucking long guide with Puck
... Ok nice guide but I misrated it 8/10
(your guide worths 9/10). There is something I want to tell:
*Puck was nerf much... Wanning Rift cooldown now is 18~20 second I recalled correctly.
1.Having learning Phase Shift early game may improve your survivability a bit but it will greatly slow down your main role of the game - hero-killer.
2.Try to add some screenies because reading your guide without any pics is "beyond my imagination"
!
@Anyone thinks that having Phase Shift auto-cast is good.
Sadly, there is many skills Phase Shift cannot react instantly/correctly like Assassinate, Magic Missile and Storm Bolt...
@Anyone thinks Dagon is nice.
Dagon is situational item for dagon. I do only get this when I face some tough guy that strong dual skills of Puck cannot finish him fast. By the late game it is completely absurd. 400 damage is a tickle for your enemies. It would even more ridiculous if you want max out Dagon lvl: it is extremely expensive, waste of gold! With that much gold, rushing Eye of Skadi, Assault Cuirass, HoT or Butterfly should be much better.
to jomary2
i think using phase shift should be use based on the game type.. ex. like youve said.. mirana? she's not a problem.. auto-cast the "ONLY LVL 1 (at early game) PHASE SHIFT) and your safe with her stun arrows! just try not to be hitted by the creeps! your a ranged hero.. be cautious.. it's easy to be not hitted..
for balanar, even if it's night time (at early game) you know he didn't have his bashers yet. and you can pawn him.. auto-cast too! for a dodge of the VOID..
have your combo, and his dead.. :D
usually when i use puck after i made a mekanism the game has already ended. 2 nulls boots basilus void and a meka. that is if you own using puck the game would be in its end.
Thanks for the feedback and positive comments, I confess this was somewhat quickly written but I'm planning to update it with screenshots (managed to lose some of my replays so will take a while) and some improvements and more details.
Now to answer some questions.
I know vanning rift has it's benefits early game but I often found two ranks of phase shift to work just as well. This doesn't lane out vanning rift in eg. many 2v1 lane situations where you can easily control a lane with orb and rift. Stuff like this depends so much on whether you're agains Pudge and Mirana on mid lane or 2v1 against a Rhasta on the side. I take 2 ranks instead of one to make it somehwat more useful in gank scenarios and to make it easier to time... I personally don't approve of using auto casts on many heroes ;p
Regarding the late game items I might have to clarify a bit. With this build you will often end up at level 16 with gold pouring in. Always consider your foes before deciding on what to buy but anyways... That Vanguard kind of slipped in there although it's supposed to mean getting another one even they are not that significant late game. Regarding the first Vanguard yes it oretty much has to be there and you do need the regen too, the first RoR is something you can sell away after getting RoH if you want to unless you plan to get a hood. HoT and radi are great things though and especially Skadi as your only real snare is Dream Coil and you will often find yourself chasing without it so orbing ahead of enemies and slowing them for your teammates works amazingly well in many tank-chases. The dagger kind of slipped in there too although it might be somewhat useful in some matchups.
I know Puck is a pretty imba right now even after the nerfs however lot of the edge still comes from people not knowing how to properly (team)play against him. Regarding his nerfs in recent patch, I didn't notice the nerfed int gain being very disabling factor... Increased cooldown on WR was quite significant, but in the other hand I still didn't feel that much difference. Should he be nerfed even more I might reconsider my strategy.
@Raxxar: Personally I don't find Nukers very great threat once you have enough HP... When you are assaulted by them you should, like always with Puck, keep your head cool and first shoot illu orb flying towards safe place, then phase shift and Jaunt right before or when you come out of shift or your orb is far enough. If you land in fog tinker can't missile you either :]
One of the most painful heroes you might have to play against is Silencer with maxed out Last Word. Because most of your offenses and defences (this is when I tought of a blink dagger) are fast combos of spell you will find yourself in trouble when getting attacked with a group including him :[ best way I could think of is keeping distance to him. However the one nice thing about silencer is that your phase shift early game renders his Curse of the Silent totally useless if he's enough of a fool to spec it against you :d. Overall silences are perhaps one of the best way to fight Puck, just as a hint to those opposing his reign of sweet dream :d. Another super-evil foe (yes, he has a silence!) is Doom Bringer, if you are against him you should definitely rush your vit booster and RoH because Lvl:death and Doom combo is way too much for a tiny Puck without his high levels and big shields.
Anyways thanks for comments and criticism I'll try to add up to this thing as soon as I can.
I am totally sure Waning Rift has a 12 second cooldown right now. 18-20... what...
One thing I have used Phase Shift for is this: 1v1 against Juggernaut. I destroy him, he runs down the river with 3 hits left, I am slightly faster, he Omnislashes me - I hotkey a lvl1 Phase Shift, totally stop Omnislash, and last-hit him. So its still neat for those nasty spells.
you forgot a nother potentaily deadly enemie for puck. BROODMOTHER. i've pooned puck everytime wen i use this spider against him. besides that this is a very good guide
even with pucks teleport thingy, its easy to catch up to him because of the slow, and if thers a web nearby you get a slight ms boost . soz for the double post
@Shimrra_3
I'm absolutely sure that Wanning Rift's cooldown is 20 second. Let me guess: you are playing 6.48
... In 6.48b Puck is nerf so fiercely
. His Int stat gain per level is 3.1 not 3.5 anymore. His Wanning Rift's cooldown is increased to prevent abuse that so-powerful skill.
@Pro200™
Brood Mother is not that strong. Having dual strong skills help you clear the mini-spider very fast. If you get annoyed by his webs, just by some wards. Do not let him touch you if he is in ultimate form because you are joke at mortal combat. About the slow speed of Illusory Orb... not very slow, Illusory Orb has 550 unit-movement speed so no one can chase it except your enemies can predict where would you send it to.
For me, the easiest way to pawn Puck is Doom and Silencer. By picking midlane - Doom only, having some consummables like tangoes help you withstand his Illusory Orb quit long. By the time you get lvl 6, Puck is basically dead. To completely screw up his strong spells, Silencer should pick side lane not to face Puck early because Puck has better lane control. Puck without his skills is @#!@# against anyone due to Silencer's Last Word.
I will give u 7/10
I liked the time u spent on writing. I myself was going to write a strategy about Puck, but then i got lazzy.
The reason i wont give u 10 is that Puck really does not need Phse Shift early. U can do much more Hero Killing combos with Orb and Rift at early game.
*returns from very short single-player test* Ok its 20. My bad. I coulda sworn it was 12 though.
No match for str heroes
hes so sick
nice guide. haven't tried this hero yet but i will when i have the time
wkakwakwakwkawkakwak it's so swt
GG
this good strat... but not in the skill build...
because spamming 1st skill and 2nd skill is gud at early game... u can wack ur opponents life off... phase shift is necessary in mid l8 game... gud strat tho...
i gotta say... i didnt expect a guide to come out so soon bout Puck.. great work by the way... although some pictures might help visualize things a little bit... 10/10 for me... pretty much the same way i play puck.. vanguard, skadi n guinsoo... PUCK RULES!!!
Blink dagger is easily a staple on this guy. you can blink while phase shifted, even though you can't take damage. So you get jumped by 4-5 heroes, if you get stunned, you phase shift, when you get out of the stun, you go into shifted mode, then you blink to safety, at which point you cast illusionary orb if necessary for an additional teleport, away from enemy units. Bottom line: Blink + Shift = broken.
tnx for strategy,
now i think that puck can be my best hero.
hehehe....it should be laguna blade instead of lacuna coil...lol.....Lacuna Coils's a band....^_^
By the way Nice strat!! 10/10!
10/10 but bad skill build
9/10.. nice..
hhmmmmmmmm........ puck has a very low HP it may took many money to buy hp enhancer items such as heart of tarasque....,, it has same weaknesses with TINKER low HP... but not so good on offensive
Not bad marh.
what about this itembuild?:
perserverance, dagon 1, power treads, desolator, assault cuirass, linken, mkb,dagon5. try it it pwns hard in late game
lol at pucks nerf. iremeber when he first came out and everyone suddenly started playing ap games so they could use him and isnce he's been nerfed no one ever chooses him (at least in my games) I haven'y played puck personally but i understand ho he works pretty well just from the skill descriptions adn if it was up to me i'd build him as a tank/dps hero since he has great chasing, disable and sirvivabilty skills/potential. I would max out illusiory orb first put 1-2 levels into phase shift (like in the guide) purely to survive mass damage spells and then start one point into the silence skill(cnat remeber name) then ult then max silence skill then max ult then max phase shift. now items would be guinsoo's, diffusal blade(for purge and extra early game damage [do not upgrade], later sell diffusal blade to build skadii, BoT for ms/tp, butterfly, mkb and buriza/divine.
The reason for this would be early game with your diffusal blade u can slow them when they try to run away so you get more hits in until it wears of and then our illusory orbs cooldown will ahve finished so you tele in front of them and gg. sell that later for skadii for slow and increase in health adn agility come sin real handy. Now a butterfly comes in useful for increase atack speed as well as having evasion and armor for when phase shift is not going off. Mkb for mini stun and large amount of damage and attack speed and buriza for crtis or divine for mass damage. Now you will chop up especially with divine as it would be very hard for you to die with your phase shift and blink(orb) so you tele in turn into chicken(guinsoo's) attack, attack, attack. Then ulti and use the time they are stuck (either waiting for ult to end or stunned from breaking strands) to get infront of them, silence/damage them on the way past. Now they will either run past you to try to get to safety or they will try to run back in which case your illusiory orb will have cooled down so you can go back down or if they go towards you just attack and soon your guinsoo's will have cooled down and just keep attacking. In all this time you will have done at least approxoimately 2500 damage with your high damage items, attack speed and spells so you can kill easily. This w9uld also work fairly well on low health heros that have blink or invis cause after they trun back to normal and you ult you silence then so when ult finishes they cant blink/ww so you just kill them. gg. lol got off point. Yeah i can see your point with your guide and i can see how it would work so good job.
bad item build! by the way where's the pics? It would be good for int type hero strategy!
6/10
nice but i shouldn't take more then 1 rank fase shift cause in eraly game its sucks to do nothing and its at your disadvantage most if the games i play i only get 1 rank sometimes 2 [doesnt matter or im 25 or not] AND HE POWN Puck = first blood/dominating/spree and much much more
i liked puck.
well, on my opinion, the illusitory orb is one of the best enemy-confusing skills in the game.shoot your orb in a direction, then make puck move the other direction then shift to your illusitory orb. nice nice. and you have to master the enemy's animations when they are casting skills so that you can easily phase shift before the skill hits you. trust me.
Puck's third skill makes him "go away" before the dmg is dealt....No need to lvl this skill past 1. Unless u like to wait. His silence is probably his second best skill so get that instead. Thats my only comment. Nice guide otherwise. :D
7.5/10
7/10
This build will work but I think there are better ones.
Puck is a get in your face kind of int hero and I prefer to play him a lot more aggressively than suggested. I got Bloodstone -> Boots -> Radiance -> Skadi (if it goes that far) and you are nearly unkillable if you play smart.
Also I much prefer to get AoE silence before phase shift. At level 7-9 with max orb + ult + silence you get some insane low level burst damage and can get a lot of early kills.
Again I vote same tactics as above post. But I can rush Skadi and above post can't nyahahahaaa
i disagree with anybody who chose to maxe Warning rift first before phase shift
actually the Guide makers build is the same with mine
Why do you need to get kills early...
Your goal is to survive besides you harass better with your "Dragonball" lol. You can spam that with mana regening items
Phase shift 2 levels is correct Auto casting is wrong only noobs do that Use your reflexex with proper practice nukers wont hit you in early game and in every stage
My build is
Bot Radiance Skadi Guinsoo (an extra linkens for kicks or BKB)
wow!!! can yoou see how high its hp. are you crazy using hearth and vanguard +hood of defiance!!!
Just wanna say.... when your playing against heros that spam spells.... autocasting the phase shift and staying back, just last hitting creeps, DON'T get hit by creeps, it triggers... but your enemy essentially cant spam you, phase shift blocks the damage, has quicker cooldown and only costs 20 mana..... aalso, you can cancel it once it starts by clicking move.. you switch it off when you go in to battle.
NIce
Puck REALLY needs the Dagger of Escape and the Dagon. I'll defend this comment. There are times when your opponents will storm your cute Puck. Puck has a very short life and the only thing to escape is to Phase Shift then cast the orb away from the opponents then jaunt. This takes a lot of precious time. Your opponents will feast on you and if there are stunners, they will stun you before you can jaunt. If you have the Dagger of Escape, you can simply cast Phase Shift then Blink away from your opponents. If ever they'll chase you, cast the orb away from the opponent and you'll be saved.
For the dagon part, it is very important to me. After casting orb, it'll hit the enemy hero. Then, jaunt. Cast Waning Rift and attack the opponent for a 3 seconds. Then cast Dream Coil to the enemy and attack him again. If he escapes, he'll be stunned for another few seconds. Attack him again and if he ever survives, use the dagon. If he still survives, use the dagger of escape and blink to the enemy. Then attack the enemy until he dies.
Refresher Orb is also good when using Puck to get a sure kill. If you worry about your mana, don't worry. If you have the eye of skadi and you are around level 20+, your mana can reach 2000+. His spells only cost 100+ mana and the refresher costs 375 mana. Don't worry!
The only way to play puck and win the game is to be very aggressive. Puck is imba early, mid and maybe mid-late game but he is a nobody in late game. Here's a good example: I played puck 3v3 and by the time I was level 18 I was on a 20-0 godlike streak. My enemies luna, rylai, and phantom lancer at that time were limited to level 10-14. Soon luna and rylai left the game, my other two teammates also left the game. It became a 1 v 1, puck against phantom lancer. Guess what, I became too confident, didn't finish the game quickly and he won.
You need to have early kills and lots of it to prevent your enemies reaching their full potential specially late gamers (troll, void, phantom lancer, all the assasins, etc).
I really prefer maxing out illusory orb and wanning rift first before getting phase shift (maybe one level phase shift in the middle) to become an aggressive puck. I think you won't need to phase shift early game because your enemies won't even dare to be aggressive with you. If they do, spam them with illusory orb from a distant. Of course there are exceptions like enchantress (if you face her, it is imperative to learn at least a level of phase shift).
The guide also said never to turn your boots to power threads, I say, maybe you should try it. I always use power threads with puck early game and I tell you, TRY IT! With power threads its easier to kill with illusory orb, wanning rift, dream coil, hit, hit, hit combo. You could even kill 2 non str enemies with this.
i say nice guide but....puck is rly rly vunerable...with low hp and armor to start with...vanguard is good but it become deefective especially in late game, with its skill i rather farm heart first the follow by your item build...also after you finnish lvl up illusion orb and warning rift that mean at lvl i dunno at mid lol i rather get 1 phase shift then all is stat till after lvl 16 i get phase shift since puck need more life and he is fragile also phase shift is a not 100% skillmake puck survive since when you activate it,you wouldnt move and that will make the opp surround you this is rly bad especially when you dont have mana and low life...
excellent guide dude. -megget(sg)
ahemmm
i am too a puck addict
personnally taka a arcane ring than that regen mana
get wanning rift early it has a big role on your killing because if you miss ther orb you can teleport to the opponent and the kill and there is a next one and wait
i just used puck today with this guide (but using sange and yasha, eul's and radiance :]]) i actually kept getting double kills :]] but i got broken apart when i was GODLIKE :[[ aww too bad. tnx to this guidee :D
........
Autocasting is bad for a couple of reason
Im gonna switch to the main point here.
Autocasting is bad when You are trying to harass using your normal attack Creeps target you...which is bull
People should get a feel when they need to autocast for example against zeus since we do not know where he will use his wrath its better to autocast it
or against mirana or pudge......
People today...do not think of the positives and negatives of autocasting such as Autocasting Poison strike or impetus or such....one word "ORB WALKING"
When do you not auto cast phase shift
Against Stunners like Sven and Skele king, Vengeful
Spell spammers like rotundjere Lina Rylai or lich....Tinker etc(Those that are easy to be seen and blocked)
There is a couple of heroes to use Phase shift on
Plus another thing i hate from auto phase shifting You get hit people tend to attack after getting hit which is crap by the way you have 3 seconds of being invulnerable and you have a 6 second cooldown invinsibilty......
Another good subject
Phase before Rift or Rift before Phase
If you are instantly laned with nukers
instantly get 1 or 2 lvls of phase shift
but 2 is much better
Against non nukers whos skills are projectiles get at least 1 for now better if 2
1.Orb
2.Shift
3.Orb
4.Shift
5.Orb
6.Coil
7.Orb
8.Rift
9-Rift
10.Rift
11.Coil
12.Rift
13-14 Shift
15.Stats
16.Coil
17-25 Stats
Remember the build is situational if your laned with sandking RIFT is a must and to tell the truth Shift does not save you from burrow you get shifted when you are attacked so basically means youve been epied ......
all very good except sand king isnt channeling once you have cast ec, although you can stop it b4 it happens if near and fast.
skadi isnt orb for range why not getting another like helm of dominator
Auto Casting lvl 1 Phase Shift is nice especially if ur lane is nuker like (Zeus/Rylai/Lina/etc)
nice strat
better (best) if you have screenies!!,,, 8/10
Yeah, I'd keep the phase shift for late game, and just have the orb and rift be made dominant over the first 9 levels, because they are the early /mid game nukes.
Puck with Desolator pwns.. Imo
Geez all of that words makes me dizzy, but nice works with Puck. I kinda like it
8/10 from me but why not buy an hyperstone (or AC later) coz it will raise both speed & armor
Phase Shift First? You Should put the 2nd Skill,Waning Rift..
I thought the guide was good. But it seemed like you missed the full potential that puck has to offer. Especially early game.
I play puck a lot and this guide just seems overall defensive.
I always play a more offensive role with puck. And I die maybe 0-2 times only and get about 9+ kills.
The main items I first get (in order) are the heart and then dagon. The heart gives you another 450 hp and mana which is really usefull on keeping you allive as well as have a crap load of mana to constantly nuke people. The dagon makes puck in mid game to be a really scary foe.
I put points into the skills a lot differently as well. Phaze shift is usually the skill I get at around lvl 7-8. Unless if there are big spell casters around or techies in which case i put one in at lvl 5 so as to totally negate that big spell or all those techie mines.
I usually go Illusory Orb, Wanning Rift, Illusory Orb, Wanning Rift, Illusory Orb, Ult, then phaze.
By lvl 6 I usually always have 1-2 kills easily. Casting the orb a few times to get them half way then casting it again to then jaunt where it is after its hit them to then do the aoe on them. If they dont die from it I usually finish them off in 1-2 normal attacks.
Later on, the dagon allows you to orb, jaunt, wanning, ult then dagon solo kill most hero's.
Puck has a huge potential on hero killing.
Overall I give your guide 8 out of 10.

I still think Phase shift is a cyclone you cast on yourself...very useless...
3 seconds are a lot of time...
RAHRGAH RANDOM OFF TOPIC POSTS.
This is NOT the hero discussion for puck, if you want that just click 'PUCK'.
O K.
Back to the guide, i like your guide, but the idea that any1 would actually NEED a guide for puck is kinda laughable.
9/10
where's luci in puck's feared heroes?
I want moar new guides >.
puck>>linken, mkb, eye of skadi and hex or dagoon=gg
Very nice guide, well written with good explanations but i agree with some like Shimrra_3. i didn't know anything about the new hero and i still won with other items such as S&Y. and the skill build with Orb/Rift/Stats instead of PhaseShift.
Because using the orb you can already attack the enemy then teleporting and then by using some dmging weapon with speed along like s&y you can kill them from behind aswell.
Just played Puck for the first time random today...wow. This guy is amazing. BTW, this guide is good too...
I must say, the description in the game for phase shift is inadequate - it is indeed a damage block, instead of a "OMG, I got HIT, time to hide!" Meaning, you don't even take the damage of the initial hit. Very annoying for the Morty or Riki trying to blinkstrike me while running.
Suggest a tinker to the skill/item builds: Get point booster first, along with some sort of mana regen. And, concentrate on the two nukes. With point and close to full mana, you can combo and kill anyone with the ethereal jaunt. The point gives you mana to do so, and the HP to not force you to get Vanguard. And, it's part of Skadi, a great item for Puck.
One last thing, I must say, this hero absolutely requires 0 latency to time the jaunt (I was lucky enough to be playing on the Korean servers, else I'd probably be pitching a fit instead right now). I got Guinsoo, Skadi, and just completed HoT when we totally annihilated the other team.
One more time, great guide, especially considering how early it came out.
Your guide is good. 10/10. Screenshots would be good.
I think phase shift early is good against nukers with projectiles.
Don't autocast it because people will simply attack you, trigger the shift, wait and nuke you afterwards.
wat a nyc strategy..hehehehe..i want 2 play a 1 on 1 game with you..
completely disagree w/ this whole strategy
1. phase shift isnt that great early, heroes dont do enough damamge to where u probably cant evade it ne ways. much better to become a spamming freak early, easy to get kills w/ puck early
2. item build, you say bloodstone is bad choice.... i dont see this at all, however, your item build is your best part of ur strategy
3. no pictures, little description in your strat
overall horrible strat, sry bud
9/10 just need pictures
hope i can play w/ you
nice strat, but i think it needs some illustrations so that you can prove all you are talking about....and your readers will not be bored...but all over its fabulous

nice strat but good players with akasha and magina could easily blink away from your orb attack. Also i think balanar can be a pain in the ass cause he can disable your spells and puck needs them.

People today...do not think of the positives and negatives of autocasting such as Autocasting Poison strike or impetus or such....one word "ORB WALKING"

.
I didn't know "ORB WALKING" is considered as one-word
Peace!

I personally like the level 3 necro book. It gives a good balance of strength and intel that puck needs to take the big hits and the great opportunity dream coil gives to the necros.
I first orb then rift, necro, coil then normal attack, and mana burn. If they stay they get owned by the necro if they try to run they get stunned. And if you don't want to get nuked u can just phase shift and let the necro do all the work. Also the necro has true sight at higher levels so this works great against assassins.
Techie,Stealth Assassin, Razor, Sniper, Drow all are easy prey in the beginning.
I personally love killing techie as when you play him early game he is suicide happy. I actually laugh to myself as techies run up to me to suicide and i rift, coil, and orb.
The auto casting level 1 phase shift also helps against damaging mines and alot of other nukes.
do anything u want....buy anything u like.....and...u gonna know anything tht cant be seen by ur own eyes
Now I know how to kill those aroggant players!
nice. i think its better if u team up with akasha.....at early game u can anhhialate tat 'fresh meat guy'. Anyway, nice tips......thx
radience terrasque liken and vanguard best item for puck
ayos ung strategy mo!!! T.Y. powwhhhhhh
I THINK IT IS BETTER FOR PUCK TO CARRY EYE OF SKADII, IF YOU TRY THIS, YOU WILL BECOME THE REAL DRAGONNNNNNN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good guide, never even concidered VG, usually go straigt for the ginsoo and then use hex+phase shift to stay alive but a VG does make much more sense. But for lategame, why not concider stygian? It makes a nice combo with your already high damage, and when you come orbing in from the woods and casting your silence and ultimate, mid and low hp chars dont really have that much to say. I much prefer Stygian to Radiance, although it does require a fair bit of ias. Ofc Skadi is alway a good option but it does cost a bit more than stygian, and thanks to your dodge/escaping skills+ginsoo, is slow really needed?
Comments please.
Oh, and , very nice guide and like a lot of people already have mentioned, good work with getting it up so early - thanks!
I agree with Shimrra, I don't think PS should be leveled up so early. I like to get it second and leave it on autocast then upgrade orb and rift to be a better nuker, works great with anyone who can stun/disable or nuke with you. Since you stay back, the enemy casts a spell, the autocast does PS and then you orb them, jaunt and rift. They wasted their spell on you so they have less to defend themselves against you. It's just too bad he doesn't too much physical damage...
Try my build..
bah bottle first.. for early kills
then build on deso and radiance..
try it..

well... I like this strategy guide, yet, I like to get tangos, boots, sheep stick, dagon 5, and misc... It is usually almost over by the time I get to the dagon 5.
kenapa puck harus pakai nikrominikom??
dan apa efeknya dan pakainya?
bati
I played a game 2 vs 3. We were 2 and I was with bloodseeker. Our enemies were raigor, harbringer, and sniper. I followed everything in the first part here except that I only got level 1 phase shift. I maxed out illusionary orb and waning rift. I did not go for the optional items. I was more of a support hero for bloodseeker. I would damage them until bloodseeker's thirst get triggered. Blood seeker was killing all of them and I was making sure that they could not cast any spells or made sure that all of them were stunned by my last skill. I will give this guide 10/10 because it worked for me
Great Strat, nice detail with both the concepts and the vocabulary
93/93 fuzzy socks
woah.. thanks.. can you teach me how to defeat my enemy using puck or kardel in 1-on-1 and my enemy is huskar?
if he got a linken sphere he can kill roshan
I think puck is very enemy-depending in terms of item builds. You need to get stuff acording to what you're fighting against. Dagon is nice vs weak heros so you can combo, linken vs powerful targeted, and so on.
However I don't agree with vanguard first. Why not? Well it does help with surviving, but you could get an arcane ring and just spam first and farm a lot more.
I guess vanguard is justified for a really safe build, but if you're a safe player in general you won't die so easy anyway.
puck is very awesome hero the negating that hero have are very powerful but can be treatening
@ bryyxx
Gotta problem with Huskar,ehh....
I think Puck wud be quite unable of beating Sacred warrior 1 vs 1 but Kardel mit do nicely.....
Just get Butterfly and lifestealing items
Or Burn his mana if possible to keep him from using healing powers.
You can prefer Kardel wih either
Satanic Butterfly Basher MkB
PowerTreads Linken's
or
HoT Manta/Skadi Burizado Butterfly.
You have to take care of Hp regen also.
Hope that this cud finish that Huskar
Make sure to not take risks on close to death fights else his damage wud finish u
Don' t learn Scattershot and max out other skills and stats up till u kill him atleast thrice without dying.
Great guide thanks
(Puck is best!!
)
to be honest i really dont like your skill build it nor good at all u waste your killing ability with phase shift
:
hey bro...
i think your idea of strat for puck is nice but i think, you lack in some items and skill build.for me skill buil for this hero depends on whom your in the lane with.for example if your in lane with a nuker you should activae PS as soon as you can and autocast it.if your in a lane with a str type hero or melee heroes its ok not to upgrade your PS skill.thats my point of view...tnx bro...for some more ideas
nice. ill try that. when im playing, i usually buy like - chicken, 6 tangos. and then 2 circlets, sobi, finish bracers. boots, finish basilius, ulti-orb, bot, ulti-orb, finish skadi, and guinsoo at last. i think skadi earlier is good, cause u can chase people with that, and when u illusionary orb into then, then you can slow them with that. and sometimes, i will buy hyper before guinsoo for better farming. :) ill try yours.
faild'n
co0l but i rather use desolator cuirass for this character,...
Ohhhhh so good thanks!
You forgot 1 thing that makes puck pwns early game .... arcane ring!! with this you dont have to worry about pucks low mana and you can spam skills like IO and WR ..
i felt his strong this doesnt make him strong i think but how can he win?
Guide not worth reading. Bad skill build, bad item choices. No understanding of the skills and how they are best used.
Wery good
Wery good
pretty aweful guide... item and skill build is quite retarded..
i liked the item build was dissapionted with the skill build...the best way is totake orb and wanning rift in the first ..u can even beat pudge with these skills..u harras him at the start and 1 orb and blink wanning rift and dream coil and sm few shots he is dead...this is the skill uild for puck dude..np but liked the build
puck change to fuck better??
Since 6.49 was released my puck build is 2 bracers, treads, vanguard and shiva's guard... With Shiva's guard puck owns!!!
whynot? becuz vangaurd is 2k down the drain. u need hex stick asap.
and phase before waning why on earth would u do that? there goes ur early game killing spreee.
610
I personally like using the Eye of Skadi with Puck. I got it after boots, RoB, and RoR. Worked out great
If you get EoS, there's not much need for Vanguard as long as you have phase shift.
your build is ok... but i prefer Illusionary Orb and Wanning Rift as my main build up... why? talking about Puck, a gang bang with this guy in early game make it a sure kill with dream coil in hand.
Plus, killing creeps with puck in a fracture of second is a dream come true.
EoS, Radiance, Kelen's, BoT, Guinsoo, Linked Sphere will be my choice... for this guy...
I`d use an arcane ring for this hero because of the fast cooldown in its skills, making it highly spammable. nice guide though, i'll use it the next time i use puck, but arcane ring would be pretty helpful early game
for me dps puck is good, although your guide suits my type of game,
i have seen a dps puck, his item build was mjolnir, skadi, power threads, guinsoo,shivas,b.fly..
it's was imba
bt you can kill it bcoz of it's low hp
if you have more time, try to create a dps puck..
hope to see it soon, by the way happy new year..
that was a nice strat...
but i dont like vanguard coz they dont contribute to any of my stat aside fron a high hp...i just go for linken or bracer..
thats is my opinion though about vanguard..10/10
Ok first of all youve dine great work .. this is a great strat and i totally agree with u not to get Dagon on Puck .. 10/10
I disagree with the vanguard start farming shivas instead but anyways 10 of 10
nice strat, specially by its size!
vanguard's trash.. get a bottle instead.. it's cheaper & way better, especially if you ganks a lot... besides, you get phase shift early game! another bracer? then what's the purpose of the vanguard you purchased? and remember you have a 1800 blink!! skill build... I'd rather get 1 Phase Shift early game and autocast it and max both wanning shift & illusory orb..
Overall Score: 3/10 Terrible Item Build!
Nice strat! I can't give a 10/10 though... A problem in the skill build... I prefer having Wanning Rift than Phase Shift
Anyway, 9/10
This strategy is very inspiring! It makes me wanna use puck even more!! :D
Hey guys, is Assault Cuirass ok for puck? I mean, it helps with armor right? ^_^'
this hero is one of my fav..however my item buliding for it are quite diff..
i usually go 4 dagon 1st..den mybe shiva..or hex..but shiva is my fav..
A Very nice Guide. Everything is explained clear and though there arent any pics, it's easy to imagine how the situation would look. 10/10
But one Question. I tried that build today. After some Leavers we had a 3v3 Game. Me, Tauren and Trax vs Spiritbreaker, Void and Tiny. The Problem at late game is, that you do not enough damage, and if a Bash Hero catchs you, you cant even shift away. What items would you consider to buy in such a situation?

mukang aso
very nice guide but i have other build for MY FAVOURITE HEROE. Shivas like its build for this "dragon".Its the first thing that i take for him.may be Currias,MKB and Dissoalator.
nice build i like it but as the same wd the previous comments the skill builds i dont like but great strategy
Very nice,thank u :X
is that effective?
not good enough in 1 on 1 battle
personally i would get orb and rift first especially with an ally because u can orb over them and in front of them, and blink to the end attack normally and rift when they come to u, that does a tremendous amount of damage. However its true that in tight situations PS is a great little tool. Nice guide dude, even if it is a little too long :P
great guide! 10/10!
good build also, i agree with almost everything cept vanguard. just get the bracers and save your 2275 for your blink dagger
seriously though, this hero owns. doesn't lose effective late game like most INT heroes
I have to disagree with your skill build though- phase shift is not really that important early game. Sometimes phase shift can be a pain in the arse and you can be disadvanaged from it. (say if you try to tp by orbing... one lvl 3 phaseshift later its too late...)
i keep phase shift on lvl 1 until i cant lvl anything else. even then i sometimes leave the skill (at lvl 25 i have 2 skill points left over)
puck hands down is my favorite hero
good strat guide but wat do u think about getting eye of skadi?
I like your guide, but keep in mind that Phase shift can be used for alot more stuff than you mentioned (like avoiding juggernauts omnilash or enchantresses impetruses etc.)
@cireyeh
OMG blink dagger for puck?? OMFG OMFG!!!
my brain just froze!!
nice guide!!
first puck guide keep it up!!
I would prefer dagon first....so i think dagon is the bestttt
Keep phase shift if you're fighting Witchdoctor, lese just go for rift, and get RoH not RoR
Good Guide . Add Dagon So Your Ur Enemy Is Sure Dead! 9/10 because no dagon
IMO Dagon is great on Puck because he chains his spells, right? Kinda like NA. So a Dagon works pretty well on him to make sure you do enough damage to finish off the enemy.
Also, I think that only one rank of Phase Shift is enough... the HP boost from 3 ranks of stats early on helps you survive much better. Anyway, the main way I use Phase Shift is to dodge the stuns/nukes you can see coming, e.g. Sven, Leo, or VS's stun, Pudge's hook, POTM's arrow (not that you can't just walk and dodge that...), and so on. Wait till they cast it and it flies towards you slowly, and then press F and watch them waste their mana, do no damage, and fail to stun you/hook you/whatever. You can do this with blink, too, but imo it's easier with this, and you will too if your reaction time is slow like mine. It's not good to leave autocast on in these situations because when it goes off, you won't take damage but you'll still suffer the stun duration, which isn't good news with Puck's negligible HP. Turn it on when you have little hp and you see a Lina walking around trying to Laguna you... :P
situation pics would be nice. still, one of the best guides in DS. i hope u do another soon
10/10
Okay... Get a build, and skill-build, oh and learn to play DotA before you post a guide.
Radiance - Sucks
Vanguard - Sucks
Hood - Not necessary, you still go down with a couple of nukes
HoT - Not necessary
Necro - Why not?
Meka - why not?
Bloodstone - why not?
Shiva's aint that useful either, especially if you have EoS, cuz there slows dont stack.
- Hammerswift
P.S : 1 level of phase shift is enough early.. You need the silence from waining rift more.
9/10
i suggest that THEY should change puck's attack projectile. :D
haha @ Lacuna coil.
Nice
pictures pls
Very good guide. I toyed around with him and found the same fun strategies. I'd worry about more survivability like soul booster and/or bloodstone. but linkens is good too like you suggested.
I know it's already long as balls, but if you were going to add a section, I'd add a list of skills that PS can really eff up like lich's ulti, witch doctor's casks, assassinate, tinker missles, etc. there's just so many! and it's too fun to watch lich's massive ice ball disappear bwhahaha...
well, your build really sucks.
it doesnt nid to buy void stone first
if u really knwo how to play puck, u can go for skadi at first

shivas and skadi for puck=gg
pucks my favorite heroe so thanks for that cool trick
illursy orb then phase shift
Can I change the bracers with null talismans? because Puck is INT type right?

nice nice
i laughed. vanguard + guinsoo on puck? :(
either dagon or shivas
